lol having a "nothing" entry for manu just to pad his column when you didnt do that for the others.
Those I believe were all of his free-agent years (and 2010 during extension talks). Parker never had a free-agent off-season in his time with SA (though I included the 2011 tension), and Tim had nothing but extensions and wink-wink FA deals since 2003. I was originally just going to cover Manu's time, but I thought the comparison was pretty stark.

and his agent saying he has a competing offer is not the same as being insecure about your role ... he was willing to play cheap until he got a monster offer from philly. that's not a sign of insecurity
You're confusing the Philly offer with the rhetoric going into the off-season. This wasn't a Vlad situation where Philly tried to poach Manu after he agreed to return. This was situation where PATFO offered a contract, and Manu's agent balked before reaching out and getting the Philly offer.

If you legit mean "pay-out", then yes. If you mean "pay-cuts", then no.
Wow. Making less than half of TD's total earnings and 2/3 of what Parker made and he is considered the "pay out" guy by you? Glad he fought for more money. In the end he deserved it while us spoiled fans got to see a hof'er come off the bench his whole career and make less than all of his peers (talent-wise).

Regardless what happens, will always be one of the greatest to ever play basketball.

Posters here are quick to part ways with Manu, but I can recall painful moments last year when one of either Kyle Anderson or Patty Mills handled the rock. ing disastrous to see that happen.

Losing Manu, despite a Derozan acquisition, hurts this team more it helps it.

pop to tony: san antonio will always be your second home.

pop to manu: we think having you on the team could be integral to laying a new foundation. what you could provide would go a long way for all the youth on our team. there's many contributions you can still make for us on and off the court.

He's not an idiot. He knows very well what he's doing. He's baiting fans to troll basically and deflecting. Why he feels compelled to bring Anderson up in a Ginobili might retire thread? trolling. It will go on until he finds a new schtick.

what part of 'larger role' you didn't understand? Manu closed down the games, while Kyle was watching from the bench. Of course Manu is going to be on minute restriction.

    Manu:

2018 -- Needing to talk to Pop
2017 -- Needing to know Pop wanted him back
2016 -- His agent sending out signals that SA was going to have to step up offers to keep Manu
2013 and 2015 -- As far as I know, nothing.
2010 -- Suggested that he was going to look elsewhere in the summer if PATFO didn't offer a max extension
2003 -- Entertained an offer from Denver

    Parker:

2011 -- Suggested that he'd have a productive "second career" in New York
2003 -- Was angered by PATFO's pursuit of Jason Kidd

    Tim

2003 -- Mildly entertained other offers, but nothing serious
    2000 -- SERIOUSLY considered Orlando

Folks are welcome to bring up other examples, but I think I'm being fair to all involved. Certainly, some of the actions they took made perfect sense, and considering they all stayed as long as the team wanted them, it's not like any of them are on the Kawhi continuum. But Manu just has more examples one can point of how him publicly expressing uncertainty about how long his relationship with the Spurs would last. Maybe that comes down just to their personalities and their histories coming into the organization. But especially in terms of his agent's comments, he seems to trust PATFO the least of the three.
Thinking Manu was being anything more than a politically correct on the many occasions he said "I will need to talk to Pop to see if he wants me back"

    "Insecure"

That decision to let Anderson walk is looking worse and worse.
This. I would trade Bertans and Forbes for Anderson in a heartbeat. The fully guaranteed money in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 has to be the reason the Spurs let him walk.

Perhaps Manu wants a player assistant/advisory coaching position. Avoid the 82 game grind and travel. Home games only type deal. Although, I never can see Ginobili doing anything less than 100%. That's why fans love him.

I'll back of Chinook. Before he signed his last contract, he weighed retiring and also said part of his decision was on whether the Spurs wanted him back. He's been like that since 2014. That doesn't mean he isn't a good player or that he can't still play, but as he has dipped with age, I think he has become more insecure with whether the Spurs want to keep him around or go younger.

That said, I'm sure he wouldn't put the question up on Spurstalk. If players read and believed what was said about them here, they would all have panic attacks.
LOL this is the place that called Tim Duncan a tired old bag, and the team a bunch of gutless worms while we were winning 50+ games and contending.

As much as this place brings me amusement, I pray no spurs player has ever found this site.
