Gotta say this has just been a dominating performance by Republicans, with special help from Democrats. They're going to appoint one of the lowest-polled SCOTUS nominees in history because they've managed (again, with the enablement of the Democrats) to completely drive the conversation in their favor.

Kavanaugh's qualification for a lifetime appointment to the United States Supreme Court hinges exclusively on the ability of the FBI to prove a claim against him from 36 years ago, to say nothing of convincing Republicans that it matters at all. It's not about the fact that almost all of his records are hidden. It's not about him being hyper-partisan or loyal to the executive. It's not even about him being an emotionally unstable conspiracy theorist with a spoken grudge against "the Left."

This is like interviewing someone for a top executive position at your company, ignoring qualifications and character flaws, and guaranteeing him the job if he simply passes a drug test.

Yawn. Kavanaugh was a judge on the DC Court of Appeals. That's the second most important court in the country. He got rave reviews for his time there from both sides of the aisle. He didn't all of a sudden become unfit for a judge because Trump nominated him. He's every bit qualified to sit on the bench (so was Garland). All this stuff you raise is just boilerplate DEM talking points to try and keep him off the bench of the high court mostly because the high court, unlike the lower appellate courts, has become too political.

You can believe what you want about the allegations over the last few weeks, but if he can excel as a judge at the DC Court of Appeals, he'll be just fine on the US Supreme Court (except for the permanent damage to his reputation based on unsubstantiated allegations).

I do agree that the Dems screwed this one up in some ways. If they handled the Ford allegations in private, I bet Trump would have withdrew Kavanaugh. It's a fight not worth having when he can nominate a woman that is way more conservative than Kavanaugh. But because the Dems made it look like a hit job by how they handled it and the timing of when they did it, they left no choice for the GOP and Trump to go all in on this guy.
