these new "you can't touch anybody or it's a foul" rules are in the game up. It's really wack how the refs call fouls this season, I hope that changes in the playoffs when it gets more physical. The NBA should definitely go back and allow a more physical playing style

make 3's a four pointer, 2's a three pointer, and free throws a 2 pointer but you only get one... speeds up the game as well
Decimals wouldn't work. You could make 2's into 3's and 3's into 4's though.

    Decimals wouldn't work. ...
This is the computer age. Certainly decimals would work. Shot distance can be measured with lasers and radar guns.

Curry shoots..... he scores! That shot measured 26.5198 feet, so it's worth 3.3148 points!!

    And the crowd goes wild!!

True; but it would not be compatible with basketball at the lower levels.

If you guys like crazy shots like then watch the modern ABA. They have some crazy ass rules, like if you steal the ball before they reach half court then 3 pointers are worth 4 pointers, dunks are worth 3 points and they have like a power play thing like hockey where the team that doesn't have the advantage plays 4 on 5.

what would happen to the number of foul shots in such a system?

Denver tried to do it back then but no defense so it didn’t work. Dubs shoots ridiculous 3’s and play great D.

Honestly, technology has advanced to the point of being able to quickly determine the precise distance of every shot. Make the half court line worth 4 points and a shot under the rim worth 2 points. Then have a computer calculate the distance on every shot and award the proportionate amount of points.

So if you were just inside the half court line, you might get 3.8 points or so. And a 10 footer would be 2 something.

yeah... i think the foul/free throw fests are a much bigger concern than players who have honed 3 point shooting skills

I like Jeff Van Gundy's idea. If you're behind and you hit a half court shot the game is tied.

It'll never happen, but I'd like the three point shot eliminated all together. Chess game to get the best 2 shot is more interesting than this junk tbh.

But chicks, casuals and trolls dig the long ball

Spurs might be the only throwback team in the league right now

EDIT: I cant figure out how to embed the tweet

I guess Pop thinks a slam dunk should only be considered a one (1) point shot. The big question is what does he consider a simple layup to be.....one half of a point (1/2 point)?

Gregg Popovich hates 3-pointers: "It’s not real basketball. Let’s have a 4-point shot. Or a 5-point shot and make it really fun for the fans. Let’s make it a circus" When asked if game would be OK without a 3-pt. shot, he said: "What am I? You want me to cure cancer, too?"

If a team is down 20-25, they would be forced to chuck up half court shots while the other team would be forced to play full court press LOL

    definitely interesting

Plays, player movement, ball movement, strategy - basketball was once the premier sport in the world.
