UK was most socialist when it was prostrate after WWII, the welfare state was established.
Since then, and certainly with Thatcher's neoliberalism, and then austerity (continues now pushing people into poverty), UK has been tending and are arriving at conservatism.
As a result, as like in USA, austerity is horribly inhumane, FAILED policy, with the poor increasing in number and depth, while the (non-working) wealthy increase their wealthy fantastically. iow, just like USA.
iow, conservatism / Capitalism are essentially anti-democratic, inhumane hole producers.
