To the OP I'd like to say Pop doesn't go down to the Greyhound bus station and slap the out of your mouth when you're working, so just let him do his job and stfu.

Pop and the Front Office ed the franchise. No way the Kawhi situation happens if Phil Jackson or Steve Kerr was coaching.
The same thing happens unless they are the LA Spurs.

I was expecting two blowouts - in Indiana and in Milwaukee and I fully expected the Spurs to be on the losing end of both.
The fact that they won one and battled to the end with one of the league's top teams - is nothing to boo at since Kawhi ed the franchise.
Spurs had a star (and all nba 2nd team) in the trade for Kawhi, Presti lost Durant for nothing and kept doing business to put the most compe ive team possible out there, what "screwed up" the franchise were the loyalty contracts for players who did not have the ability to play the level of salary they get, that excuse for mounting the list does not make any sense, some really believe that making the roster around Kawhi would put a lot of small shooters (mills and forbes) who can not play defense at professional level (bellinelli), or mediocre end-of-career players like Dante? so he and Aldridge could take trash to the playoffs with 55-60 wins again

I'd say kawhi quit on the team. You cannot say that the Spurs training staff didn't bend over backwards through the years, always being ultra-conservative with players health. Kawhi showed nothing but cowardice and unprofessionalism from the day he decided to quit on the team to the day he was granted his wish to be traded.

A true pro would have traveled with the team, gotten rid of his entourage as a show of respect for what the franchise had done for him and for other hall of famers and if he really wanted to leave he should have just played through his contract and moved on when he was free.

It is too early to tell - but I have a hunch that Toronto will eventually see his true colors at the first sign of adversity.

    Just watch.
    Ok, Spurs homer.

Yes and OKC is just racking up those rings, amirite?

Spurs haven't even had a losing season or missed the playoffs yet and all the cliff jumpers are turning their backs already?

Apparently you were not a fan before the Spurs were ever champs. This is how it is when you are NOT a championship caliber team. It is a struggle to win without championship talent and the last "possible superstar" type player they had was Kawhi - and he royally ed this franchise.

Pop and RC had tried to build around Kawhi while Timmy retired, Manu aged and Parker aged - and is one reason for signing complementary players around their "superstar" until the superstar feigned an injury and eventually just flat out quit on the franchise.

To even get Derozan and try to gracefully accept the quitters demands was no fun for this franchise but they are moving on and have to play with the players they are stuck with for now. No franchise ever expects a superstar to betray them and it will take a little time to find their groove again.

The Spurs did absolutely nothing to build around Kawhi though. Signing Patty Mills to that god awful contract was supposed to be a sign that this team wanted to be compe ive? Or the Gasol extension? Or letting J Simmons and Dedmon go? How exactly are those moves communicating to a guy like Kawhi that the team was going to be built around him and compe ive?

I am not defending the Mills/Gasol signings - BUT - having said that you have to remember that when they signed them the CAP had just gone way up and players were demanding and getting crazy contracts around the league. Patty had been on a reasonable contract for years and this was his big payday - or they could have let him go. I agree they should have let him go - but again - maybe Pop and RC had a reason to believe that the lineup would complement Kawhi - remember they had won a bunch of RS games.

You are seeing the result of this lineup WITHOUT KAWHI - and you are attacking the front office when they intended to have this lineup PLUS KAWHI.

To even insinuate that Kawhi was some kind of a basketball championship talent mastermind who was offended at his complementary pieces surrounding him completely ignores the fact that Kawhi also could have helped his situation himself. If he really cared about who the Spurs were signing then he could have spoken out and believe me - if your ONLY superstar shows he is for or against any moves - a front office will listen. (look at Lebron's career).

On the other hand - Timmy - was even a better everything than Kawhi and he never held the franchise hostage and he won 5 rings. Do not forget that Timmy was still playing decent defense when Kawhi got his only ring. I will wait to see how many rings Kawhi gets on his own before annointing him as some great player.
Kawhi could have also spoken up to the media and to the Spurs FO - about any concerns - or he could have regularly reported that he was working to come back - or he could have also said he wanted to leave while the Spurs had better options. He did nothing but quit, hide and lie about everything.

    Kawhi.

so Durant went to gsw no one really has a chance, I do not know what this has to do with the question

and yes, keep repeating that "Spurs tried to build around Kawhi" even with no real evidence, Spurs built around Pop, the rest of your post is just "hur dur I'm more fan than you projection" so I go just ignore

ps: you do not have to defend PATFO and the franchise against Kawhi, nobody gives a about Kawhi from the moment he left the team, but the mistakes that Pop had will be pointed out regardless of that (that's all personal opinion anyway)

Even if this was the case, the Spurs still needed more talent to beat GSW. Patty Mills and Gasol are virtually unplayable against GSW, even if Kawhi was still in the lineup. Maybe Kawhi handled it wrong, but that still doesn’t excuse the fact that the front office was not committed to winning championships by the moves they were making when Kawhi was still here. That alone probably gave Uncle Dennis the ammo he needed to convince Kawhi to leave.

Can't agree - but I get what you are saying.

When the Spurs had Timmy,Manu & TP - I thought they should have won more les but I am grateful for the 5 also.
I don't see the same when the Spurs had Kawhi. I just don't think people appreciate Timmy and how much of a monster he was - even in his hobbled years.

I don't see the Spurs as a championship team even with Kawhi. His quitting confirmed it for me - he will have to prove he can win a le away from the Spurs - time will tell.

i agree—the big 3 should have won more les if it wasn’t for Pop and the Front Office. The talent of the big 3 were a big reason for the 5 les. But pop’s coaching decisions and front office moves prevented them from achieving dynasty status! This problem wasn’t that obvious but once the big 3 got old and Kawhi took over it became way more obvious.

    lol

I would have agreed with that at one time - but now -

I see Pop and how he really cares about the franchise. I see how Aldridge and then Kawhi challenged him and I see him out there still putting in the time and I have to really appreciate that. It is easy to armchair qb - but I think Pop and RC really did their best.

I want a le every year - but that is not gonna happen.

The players on this team seem to be trying. They’re just not that good. You don’t boo the special kid because he rides the short bus. This team has limitations. Boo RC and Pop if you want. Heck, boo Kawhi. This team would still play a little defense if he and Green were around.

Agree with everything but do not think Aldridge is trying at all. Either way, if booing the kids on the shorty bus is enough to make the organization and fans look bad (and therefore warrant change), then so be it!

Pops and RC (I know the big 3 had a lot to do with it also but will discuss later) have assembled teams that contended for 21 straight playoffs, 5 rings, how many division les? in a small-market San Antonio, and you’re asking fans to boo them? Because mute cancer bailed out and single-handedly sabotaged getting fair trade return, exacerbated by injuries to budding All-NBA Defensive Team guard DJ, our 1st round pick injured, White barely back, Pau, etc. You call yourself a Spurs fan? Fair-weather fan tbh. Spurs develop and build. That’s the Spurs mantra. It takes time. And we’re unlucky that our annointed franchised player turned out to be weak, worst a 1st rate up to say the least. It’s not easy to develop a contender in a small market where nobody wants to sign. It sucks. Yet 21 straight playoff appearances, 56 out of 48 NBA/ABA record. It’s easy to say we had Timmy and DRob. But I ask. How many times did Kobe miss the playoffs? Karl/Stockton, Barkeley, Ewing, Iverson, TMac/Ming. The last time I checked they’re HOF’s. Any rings? We’re 9 and 8 early in the season and all the luck in the world. Chill out. I get frustrated too, but by the end of the day hey my Spurs are trying. FO are doing their best, all these years. Now is when true fans really need to show support, not only when they’re winning. And let them know we’re behind them 100 per cent to cheer them on. But boo them in our own home? Never. GSG!

I'm not a player fan, Im a team fan. Maybe, Pop did not consider Kawhi to be on the level of Duncan, Manu, or Parker for him to listen to. Maybe there's truth to it, who knows? It was indirect shot fired at Pop. Now, Pop countered it with "Kawhi wasn't a leader".
I remember the big 3 being yanked out if they missed on rotation like everyone else, future HOF or not. Pops believed on Kiwi, all that clips urging Kiwi against LeBron, barking at TP to give the ball to Kiwi. I feel Pops was sincerely hurt what Kiwi did, but granted his trade request just the same. I understand with all the loses, Pop’s showing some frustrations. Because the truth is he misjudged Kiwi, or better yet, was wrong to believe Kiwi was the heir-apparent to the glorious franchise, after DRob and Timmy. No Kiwi was not.

Exactly most of the spurs fans suck especially when times get a bit rough! When times get hard that's the best time to show more support !!! Love the spurs and I may not agree with every descion they make I know theres something that they know but we don't . everybody accuses the front office and coaching staff when we had nothing but success in as a small market teams ..even some big market teams have been trash ...

Send a loud, clear message to Pop and the FO. Next time this team plays at home, there should be non stop booing of these scrubby players. Show that this is a huge disservice to fans to field such a scrubby mediocre team. After the booing, people need to get up and leave. It’s the only real way to send a message!

    Makes no sense.
Demar was a true dedicated pro and faithful to Toronto.

So they traded him for that?
    Ended up with a quitter?

Ok - let's see how that works out for them.

Agreed. This roster is an embarrassment. Only 3 legit starters, 0 credible perimeter defenders, 0 PG's, 1 SF (who is no longer an NBA player) and their so called stars refuse to shoot 3s.

They're literally last in points in the paint, 26th in 3-point makes and 28th in 3-point attempts . . . what sport are they attempting to play? Because this is not modern basketball, particularly at this level.

If damn near anyone else had built this garbage, they'd be mocked mercilessly.
