Pop is the last coach in the history of the NBA you could accuse of being unable to adapt - from the triple towers of 99 to the beautiful game of 2014 there's no coach ever to have changed as much.
I agree, Pop is correct (in fact, almost always he is correct), the league has lost all physicality and defenses are prevented from .... defending, this does not make any sense , formerly you had many iden ies different in the teams, today 95% of the league plays the same way, the rules (or lack of them) force you to play in a single way, or you have no chances

Reasonable analysis from Jalen Rose. I also think that a) Pop is right b) Pop is about to retire from NBA coaching
Probably he should move to the front office starting from next season. Can you be general manager and at the same time coach Team US? No ethical conflict there?
There's still basketball in LA, Toronto, Oakland, Denver, Milwaukee, Philly... seems like it's just San Antonio where this is a problem. Maybe Poop shouldn't have built a crap team around two fake "stars" if he doesn't like what he's seeing.
I have to agree with Poop tbh
There is no variety in the game today
4 three point shooters standing there like beisbol players, pick and roll go to the rim or kick out to 3 pt chucker
I really enjoy watching Curry or Doncic make very difficult 3 point shots, but for the rest..........
There's still some variety, tbh. The Clippers' offense is pretty much Poop's wet dream. 27th in 3PA, 11th in midrange attempts. Indiana and Memphis also come to mind as teams playing differently from the norm.
Poop is just deflecting because he's being exposed without Duncan, DRob, Manu or Kawhi around to carry him.
I agree! I don't see nothing wrong in his statement! The NBA is trash! Three point shot has ruined the game! I loved the defense and having a center in the middle blocking shots now the NBA has changed it to three point shot aka GSW and changed the rules where you can't defend without getting called a foul! Pop is doing the best with what he has. He's frustrated and you can yell at them but they are grown men and know that they are responsible on what happens on the court! Pop can't make the shots for them! I'm sure they will go through film and point out their mistakes and then practice!
LMA, DeRozen and Gay are the only ones worth keeping, release the other scrubs! I don't know what's going to happen to this team maybe they should tank but I will still support them win or lose as I've been a fan of this team forever! Love my Spurs! Go Spurs Go!
Everything sucks when you're losing
Sure, I've said that many times, it's the reason I think he's the GOAT coach and better than Jackson or anybody else..
That doesn't mean he's going to be that way forever, as evidenced by the past 2 years..he's 70 years old and hates the way the game is played today, I find it difficult to believe that he's still hungry enough to evolve again, why would he be? He's accomplished everything there is to accomplish in the NBA..
Also when you dont have 3 HOF including a Top 5 talent all time to carry you.
My thoughts too. Super angry lol. Look at his pic. Loves people who abuses and tortures women. I'm not sure if he's even a Spurs fan. Every post he has made for the passed 5 years is him ting all over the Spurs.
out of 2400 NBA games / year, probably only 400 are watchable, meaningful, and fewer are important to standings.
How well did Milwaukee replace Jabbar when he did what Nephew tried to do?
How well did Houston replace Hakeem?
How well did Miami or Cleveland replace LeBron when he bolted multiple times?
How well did Chicago replace Jordan when he retired?
How well have the Lakers rebuilt since 2010? Their best player is now 34 years old and they have blown several top five draft picks (building blocks) along the way. In fact, they are horrible at drafting talent on balance since Kobe died as a basketball player.
Losing a premium player like Nephew is a blow you cannot recover from in the short term. DeRozan is a very nice player, but does not provide what the 2016-2017 Nephew did.
I don't think Nephew plays very hard on D now because he knows he runs the Toronto franchise right now - no demands are being made on him. They don't want to offend the amateur "group" getting those 2nd tier shoe deals.
Slamming the Spurs front office is a cottage industry around here, but when you get ZERO opportunities to draft top ten players for 20+ years it catches up with you. That's why no NBA team did what the Spurs did through 2016-2017 for two decades.
Pop and his staff need to develop the young players already here and add to that group. The Gasols and Gays and Cunninghams and Poindexters will be gone soon (hopefully). Rudy spent too much time in losing situations and that offsets his good qualities offensively. Too many dumb passes and defensive errors.

Pop is right. If you want to win in this league you have to shoot threes well and in mass quan y. Beyond that it's just teaching guys to move without the ball and run the pick and roll. A lot of the strategy behind the game is gone now. Every team is playing the same way, and basically you field a team of 5 guys that can run fast and shoot from deep. Post up games are gone. Grind out defensive teams are gone. Half court games are gone. Midrange games are gone. Guys that were great in previous eras wouldn't be in today's NBA. All coaches have to adhere to the same basic strategy and recruit the same type of player. I think the parity we're starting to see is going to continue to evolve because no team will be able to differentiate itself from anyone else. The only teams that will rise above will be the super teams assembled with the best shooters. Unless you copy that approach you're not going to be a very good team. It is boring, and it's really made the game less fun to watch for a basketball purist. For the simple-minded fan it's pretty entertaining. It's basically like watching NASCAR where the basic strategy is going the fastest. Now in the NBA it's just a three point shooting contest.
One thing Pop was able to do in the past is change the game. He was really the first to emphasize a focus on using foreign talent. Before the Spurs made it a point of emphasis, the only foreign players that played in the NBA were the marquee guys that everyone knew were super-talented. The depth of foreign talent wasn't mined until the Spurs opened that door. Pop also was able to build rosters, strategies, and styles of play over the years that could beat the Malone-Stockton Jazz teams, the Shaq-Kobe Laker teams, the Nash-Stoudemire Suns teams, the Lebron-Wade Heat teams, often with less talent than some of those teams, just a superior approach. Ironically, the Beautiful Game actually became the foundation for what the league has evolved into today. So in some ways, Pop created his own monster.
I feel his frustration though. Today's game is lacking in strategy and depth. It's pretty much the same product, no matter what team you're watching. Just like watching the cars run in a circle, knowing there's a half dozen or so in the field that are a little faster than the rest.

Usually I try to see what you are saying under all the yah. Basketball is more exciting? The 3 only game has not only robbed of the great play of big men, it has also stopped the great dunks. Defense too is another victim. If you like a game of H.O.R.S.E. then so be it. The game is eroding. Effort and athleticism have been replaced for bomb's away. It has nothing to do with the Spurs. I really can't think of a two team matchup in today's game that is must see TV.
The media matra since 1997 has been peddling "the Spurs are boring" because their glamor teams were really not good enough many times. Losing more often than not is boring.
There is playing to your old-school personnel, and then there is obstinance. San Antonio's shot selection isn't just the former. The Spurs' expected effective field goal percentage -- based on the location of each shot and nearby defenders -- sits at 49 percent, the lowest mark among any team over the past two seasons, per Second Spectrum.

The 2012-2014 spurs started the whole space and pace a d three ball system. Sure it wasnt at the same volume as it is now...but they basically tried to win the LOBT with penetration and three balls.
But now that the league caught up hes throwing shade..
What the is wrong with pop
It's funny how the coach who loves to tell players to "get over themselves" can't accept criticism and has to deflect it to everyone else.
Wait, so Pop knows what you need to win, but continues to sign guys like Forbes, Mills, Gasol, etc?
He’s done and just doesn’t give a anymore. He’s not mad about losing. He’s mad he can’t win with his old stubborn ways.
He’s really not wrong, but that’s not the issue here. He’s got so much tenure that he has no dog left in him. That’s why it’s time for him to go. The young coaches in the NBA are hungry and still trying to make a living while making a name for themselves.
Pop is like the Rocky that lost his first fight to Clubber Lang.

Poop the chicken .
Quitting on the spurs now that he has no superstars and his coaching is getting exposed.
Basketball was never meant to (or created for) be played with surface-to-air missiles
Let's add the 4, 5, 6 pts lines... so only a fraction in the middle of the court is used. Let's just have 1 player on each side.
That would be fun to watch
