That new gas tax to "fight" climate change appeared to be the last straw for the ordinary french people. The total disconnect between the urban elite and the ordinary working class couldn't be illustrated better. Macron is either going to have to back down or use the police/military to smash the civil dissent. Either way he loses.

The French tradition is that the govt will back down

In les evenements of May '68, De Gaulle actually backed down right over the Rhine to Germany, and the mass uprising forced major changes.

What's somewhat different from the usual French mass demonstrations is that this one didn't wait until good weather in the spring.

So, wait... We need to listen to rioters now?

Riots are happening, so the course of action we should take is to consider policies that may have lead to those riots?

I mean, I kind of agree, it's just sort of a reversal of the standard approach.

    reversal of the standard approach.
    ... which is?

BLM/Kaep have a point, OWS has/had a point, but police slaughter of blacks continues, and the oligarchy continues impoverishing the non-oligarchy. Go govt policies changed, or were even discussed.

the French DISSENTERS are DISSENTING govt policy that makes them poorer, not richer, not even standing still

And they know damn well after becoming poorer, their lives will not be otherwise better due to govt use of their increased fuel costs.

The standard approach to reacting to riots is to dismiss even the non-violent protests they are related to and to do nothing about the concerns raised.

Conservative media wasn't saying, "Law Enforcement in America needs to look at what's happening in Ferguson" when people were looting 7-Elevens, they were calling BLM a terrorist group.

Basically just like you posted, somehow as a disagreement to the point I was making.

Imagine this happening at a BLM march.

Not even Antifa has stolen assault rifles from the cops. But because this is supposedly an anti-tax protest, "Hmm, they raise some good points."

Chris is dumb, but I think some of his posts are cheap troll attempts and he gets the reaction he wants. Boots is flat out bat crazy.

Ferguson was doomed once tape was released of Michael Brown inside the convenience store. The average American no longer wanted to see or hear about him but the black community and (lol) the democratic party ventured on with him as their martyr

Just curious, as someone who lives in France, can you explain what the cause of the riots is? It’s honestly not clear to me.
