Former New Orleans Saints cornerback Brandon Browner was sentenced to eight years in a California state prison after pleading no contest to attempted murder on Tuesday (Dec. 4), according to a report by TMZ Sports.
Browner, 34, was arrested after an incident in July in which he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in La Verne, Calif., and then allegedly chased her, dragged her and smothered her in a carpet, per the report.
On Tuesday, Browner reportedly pleaded no contest to one count of attempted murder and two counts of willful child endangerment because the woman’s children were in the home at the time of the incident. Chargers of robbery, burglary and false imprisonment were dropped in the case, per the report.
Browner played for the Seattle Seahawks from 2011-13 and the New England Patriots in 2014, winning one Super Bowl with each team. He joined the Saints in 2015, but struggled during his one season in New Orleans.

He was a penalty machine and one of the slowest corners to ever play meaningful snaps. The only thing he was ever really good at was press/red zone.
Revis, Arrington, Butler... Browner was like the 4th best corner on that NE 2014 team. But yeah, that was their only good defensive team in the post-early Brady years.
Prior to Browner, their secondary was getting bullied by bigger receivers and wasn’t feared at all (Anquan Boldin in 2012 being the best example). Even though it led to more penalties, Browners hard hitting and physical play style gave their secondary a swagger it didn’t have the prior several years.
Let's not forget that that was the only year they had Revis. 2014 was the only truly complete team in the Brady era, best combo of offense and defense. The defense was pretty stacked with Collins, Chandler Jones, Hightower pre-injuries, younger McCourty, and all those corners. The fact they went 12-4 was misleading and mostly schedule-based (had to go to Green Bay with Rodgers playing at an all-time level, etc).
Yeah being able to let Revis play man with no safety help enabled them to let Browner manhandle receivers at the line with an extra defender on his side. One of the few seasons where Bill managed the secondary properly.
The 2015 team was more dominant but it just got derailed by injuries at the end of the season.
He single handedly lost 3 games for the Saints in 2015 and didn’t help them win any. He was atrocious.
Agreed, y'all on McCourty here, he's no Earl Thomas but he saved Browner's ass a lot that season. Still needed 2 crazy trick plays from way out of left field just to beat Baltimore at home in the divisional... weird. Then they stomped all over the Colts but that wasn't really an accomplishment as they had no defense and a jeckyll and hyde offense. They were better than they played, imo.
Yes, I believe they were 9-0 and finished like 12-4 because of some bad injuries (Solder probably the worst, but they lost all their RBs and some defensive starters as well) and were still a 2-point conversion and a coin toss away from another ring (no doubt they would have beaten Carolina, they were frauds that year).
Still, coughing up the current 3rd best pass rusher in the NFL right now for a happy meal was an all time gaffe on the part of Belichick.
Chandler Jones’ stats are deceiving. I agree they didn’t get enough for him, but he was invisible against good teams in the playoffs and inflated his sack total against ty divisional opponents in the regular season. He was effectively the defensive version of Logan Mankins.
Fwiw, the only reason they needed a 2 point conversion against Denver was because Ghostkowski missed an XP attempt earlier in the game, and that was before the XP got moved back.
What other kickers are absolute money from 50+ yards but then total dog inside of 30? Bill’s biggest mistake in his career was not trusting Ghost to make the 50-something yarder in SB42, since Ghost makes those in his sleep, and his second biggest mistake is not going for 2 after every score, because Ghost shanks so many easy ones.
He's still someone you lose sleep over as an OC. You have to chip or double him which a) leaves weaknesses elsewhere, or b) sets your offense a half tempo behind which can be big.
Also, he has been better in Zona than his early years in NE, mostly attributed to normal progression due to age and experience.
Does Trey Flowers make OC's lose sleep? Nope, he's the designated scheme sack guy because he's quicker than the other trash on the line, but he's not a major threat or a Pro Bowl threat. Most of NE's sacks the past couple years have been on some kind of blitz. They don't get home with four and they had 0 sacks and 2 pressures in the Super Bowl. That's a problem. Trading Jones because they thought their smaller white pass rushers (who "embraced the Patriot Way") like McClellin and Ninkovic would be enough was folly.
That part is incorrect, the XP got moved back in the summer of 2015. Gostkowski's miss was from 33 yards out, not 20. He also clanged one in the Atlanta game.
You're thinking of the other rule change - it was the summer of 2016 that the kickoff touchback got moved forward to the 25.
re ed. I’d take Flowers over Chandler Jones any day. Flowers already has 5 times as many clutch sacks & TFL as Chandler had in NE.
Still... 2 pressures (80 year old James Harrison) and 0 sacks on a pocket statue Nick Foles with a backup LT and LG playing for the Eagles.
Sure, you take Flowers over Jones considering the price and salary cap implication, on an uber-expensive offense, but that's it. Pats analysts expect Flowers to be gone this coming March (he's an impending FA) because they won't even want to pay him.
