Yeah if you’re watching a channel where a large chunk of the viewers are black then there’s going to be more commercials marketing to black people.

Im willing to be that you can go a lot more than 2 consecutive commercials without seeing a black person if you’re watching a hockey game or a NASCAR race.

Its also an intellectually dishonest argument when you’re not handicapping the total number of people in each commercial. If a commercial for a product has 6 customer testimonials and 1 of the customers is black, that’s 16% representation which isn’t far off, but by your backwards logic that’s 1 out of 1 commercial with a black person in it.

I still don’t get what it means to “normalize” black people since they’re “only 12% of the population” , as if 12% is some insanely low amount that represents a portion you would rarely ever see. Anyone who lives in a highly populated urban or even suburban area is probably going to see multiple black people on an average day, unless of course you’re an incel who lives at home and complains about mom and dad watching Rachel Maddow.

We're getting to a point where advertising, by and large, is a topic of conversation only among advertisers. Unless there's a case, like this one for whatever reason, where an advertisement becomes news and taps into some kind of polarization. Like, has anyone even seen this ad in the course of just watching TV or video, or have they only seen it from social media and news coverage?
