I think it’s more than just the fact news travels faster now. As you said, when I was growing up this was almost never a thing, and when it was it was a HUGE deal. When Columbine happened it was in the news cycle for months afterwards and do entaries were made about it. If Columbine were to happen now it’d have maybe a week of front page news coverage and then people would forget about it pretty quickly.

15 years ago we had video games but we didn’t have such a high number of 20 something year old men sitting at home playing video games for hours on end with nothing real in life they were pursuing (Steve Bannon of all people was on TV roughly a year ago with numbers on how many men in their late 20s played video games and it was frightening). For all the I might talk to you on the internet, someone like you who owns his own business and has something fulfilling to do during the day isn’t going to be a mass shooter anytime soon.

If I had to guess, this kid was either unemployed or had a dead end job with no plausible way to ever go to college. Having a girlfriend was probably the only good thing he had going on in his life, and after she broke up with him and told him he couldn’t live with her anymore, his life got really ty really quickly.

you're def right about the news cycle. columbine is the first i remember such a huge ordeal over and it was in the news for yrs to come and still relevant today but new shootings are over with in the cycle within 24 hrs. it's nuts.

as well, i was never a gamer. i love nba2k but i suck at it so i never spent much time in front of a console tbh. i like a more hands on approach to activities kind of like what i do for a living. however, i know plenty of dudes, my age even, who are glued to their consoles. ugh...

i didn't read that weirdo's background so he ended up doing all this bs after his chick broke up with him? i should probably read about this then. like this shouldn't even be a thing in our society but it is and it's becoming more and more prevalent which is very sad.

Anyone here could decide in an instant to kill people. All you need is to believe you have a ty prognosis for the rest of your life, and some events like being kicked out of your home, then out of your GF's home might be the tipping point. This guy is one in probably tens of thousands who are experiencing these social issues daily. But the "fortnitis" seems pretty spot on... these people for some reason seem to think there's a " it" button and that they can combat log out of life after raging on their own squad.

to think someone could be so upset over a break up that they'd go on a killing spree... just pathetic and sad. i just wish those like him would off themselves without that urge to take others out while trying to gain attention for their cowardice ways.

i noticed our society slipping away back in the early 2000's when everyone i knew all started coming up bi-polar and being prescribed anti-depressants like candy. all those pills have crippled a whole generation and some imo. so glad the worst i do is drink sweet tea, smoke blunts, and eat ginseng from time to time; everything else!

Crimes of passion happen all the time though. Like you said, on top of regular news, now you have social media, everything gets amplified and spread out much quicker and onto another dimension.

thank god. growing up this was never an issue or maybe with less communication in the world i just never heard/read stories like this because it was harder to flood the news nation wide. who knows... 's pathetic though and i wish when they found these dudes, if they're going to give them exposure to become "famous", then hang them on nat'l tv for all to witness, even the cowards who might do the same one day.
