As someone who lives in VA, it makes sense that other black people don't want him to step down.

If Northam, Fairfax and Herring all resign then a Republican would take over- the Virginia GOP is growing increasingly unpopular in the state Gilmore lost by 10 points and Stewart lost by 16 in the last two statewide elections.

The L.T Gov may get impeached for sexual assault accusations. Northam staying in place means that he can pick his new Lieutenant governor and many Dems are calling it for it to be a long time state politician ( and a black woman) to be the pick. It would ensure that there won't be a Republican governor.

True; the fact it's getting national coverage is probably hurting Northam, and certainly Fairfax, but if Northam can hold on for another month his numbers will likely improve and there is a decent chance that he will be able to finish out his term. That is a better alternative than all three resigning and having a republican governor for sure.
