I think progressives are smart enough to understand the realities of moderate districts, and won't really go "freedom caucus of the left". That is one of the differences between the straightjacket of the extreme tea party right, and the new progressive wing that got into Congress on the left. I may end up wrong about that, but am tuned in to the chatter enough to have a sense of where that is going.

One of my oldest friends is very involved in the Texas legislature. As a very dyed in the wool Dem, and likely better connected than you, he echoes these concerns. In fact he forwarded me the politico piece.

Old-line establishment Dems are responsible for doing nothing about the oligarchy dragging the Repugs into the bags they are now, nothing about the extreme inequality created by the oligarchy's Repugs for 40 years.
The Clintons are as horribly neo-liberal as any Repug. And Reagan-Thatcher neoliberalism has deeply ed over 100Ms.

The Dem establishment offers NOTHING but the same old fecklessness in the face of the long-time, on-going onslaught of the oligarchy on America.

CC's crocodile tears about disunity on the Democratic side are unconvincimg, but it's not amiss to point out the electoral disadvantage of disunity. Nor to point out the rift between Pelosi and Hoyer in regard to stopping Congressional Republicans.
Whoever can get the half of the country that doesn't typically vote to vote will win.
If that doesn't happen it's probably four more years of Trump, but I was wrong about 2016: maybe hatred of Trump will be enough to get Dems over the finish line, but I tend to doubt it.
