kerry wasn't testifying as a scientific authority. he didnt claim to be s scientist. it wasn't a science committee hearing. its the oversight committee, and the hearing was on the need for leadership to combat climate change.
he's absolutely right that the guy wasn't having a serious conversation.
its also moronic to call political science "pseudoscience." its certainly not natural science, and there is a distinction between natural sciences and social sciences. social science degrees are typically bachelors in arts, not bachelors in science. its not as though the academic community conflates them. but this idiot congressman is trying to win political points on stupid semantics.
i'm sure he has DMC's vote
Massie: Secretary Kerry, I want to read part of your statement back to you. “Instead of convening a kangaroo court, the president might want to talk with the educated adults he once trusted to fill his top national security positions.”
It sounds like you’re questioning the credentials of the president’s advisers currently, but I don’t think we should question your
credentials today.
Isn’t it true you have a science degree from Yale?
Kerry: A bachelor of arts degree.
Massie: Is it a political science degree?
Kerry: Yes, political science.
Massie: So how do you get a bachelor of arts in a science [degree]?Holy , KY Jelly for brains
Kerry: Well, it’s liberal arts education and degree, it’s a bachelor.
Massie: OK, so it’s not really science.![]()
So I think it’s somewhat appropriate that
someone with a pseudoscience degree![]()
is here pushing pseudoscience in front of our committee today.
Kerry: Are you serious? This is really, seriously happening here?
Massie: You know what? It is serious, you’re calling the president’s Cabinet a kangaroo court, is that serious?
Kerry: I’m not calling his Cabinet a kangaroo court, I’m calling this committee he’s putting together a kangaroo committee.
Massie: Are you saying he doesn’t have educated adults there now?
Kerry: I don’t know who he it yet, because it’s secret.
Massie, for his part, has a degree from MIT,
which, not that anyone really needed convincing, should prove that idiots are everywhere.

Landmark UN Report to Show 'Transformational Change' Urgently Needed Save Humanity and Natural World FromNightmarish Future
"Anyone who denies that we are in a human-induced extinction crisis is either lying or not paying attention."
Signaling the need for urgent "transformative changes" in order to save humanity and the natural world,
the 1,800-page report and a separate executive summary will represent the first time the UN has published such an exhaustive report on the state of Nature.
As Agence France-Presse, which obtained a draft of the conclusions, reports Saturday that
"The bombs Summary for Policymakers... makes for very grim reading."
According to AFP's review of the draft report and the summary, the do ents
"paint a picture of widespread destruction wrought by man, some of it irreparable."
human destruction of natural systems has put the world on a path towards
a mass extinction that could wipe out over a million species.
the "number of people in the world and
their growing ability to consume"
are the two biggest indirect drivers of biodiversity loss and the climate crisis.
According to AFP:https://www.commondreams.org/news/2019/05/04/landmark-un-report-show-transformational-change-urgently-needed-save-humanity-and?cd-origin=rss
The new report details how humans are
undermining Earth's capacity to produce fresh water, clean air and productive soil, to name a few "ecosystem services."
The direct causes of Nature's degradation—in order of importance—are
shrinking habitat and land-use change,
hunting for food or illicit trade in body parts,
climate change,
pollution, and
predatory or disease-carrying alien species such as rats, mosquitoes and snakes.
"The evidence is incontestable,"
"Our destruction of biodiversity and ecosystem services has reached levels that threaten our well-being at least as much as human-induced climate change."
Capitalism is incompatible with life
It's those damn termites!
OK, just for arguments sake.....I will agree to your premise that man is a major, if not the biggest, contributor to greenhouse gases.
Now, so what?
Do you have a plan? What is that plan? I stand ready to read your plan to stop and/or reduce these greenhouse emissions.
I'm not trying to be an ass about this, I truly want to know what you think we, humans, ought to do about this?
Well?
Read that last line.
That says it all. Climate change is not about science. It is ALL about politics.
For the deniers it can’t be about science
Humanity is ed by Capitalists and there is NO EXIT from AGW, anthropocene climate catastrophe.

Y'all know that works both ways. Why would a person that believes in man made climate change.....read warming.....say that capitalism is incompatible with life if it were not all about politics.
I personally do not believe that the current climate we are in is mainly a result actions by mankind.
For argument's sake I am willing to agree with the global warming crowd and say it is mostly, to all man's fault. Now, with that stipulation, what do y'all want to do about it? What is your best case plan to reverse/end this climate change by man?
I actually have a plan that is doable, available and is both cheap and safe.
I await your plan.
In my plan it is the capitalist enlightened self interest that will save mankind. In my plan there will be greatly reduced carbon emissions, there will be an increase in the standard of living, an increase in life expectancy. And an increase in the world population.
I'm still waiting for you to say what your plan is.
what needs to be done is a reduction to our carbon footprint. that is the scientific analysis.
beyond that, the solutions are of course political. but the underlying science is apolitical. and sure, i would say that trusting that private corporations will act outside their own self interest to reduce emissions would be a fools errand
You didn't post a plan, you posted the results you hope to get from a plan you didn't post.
I agree. The solution should be based in science, yet all we hear is political .
"...what needs to be done is a reduction to our carbon footprint."
Well, and simply stated. I could not agree more.
Now, deferring to parts of my plan, first thing I would do is end and get rid of all solar panels, windmills and battery operated vehicles. The manufacturing, transportation, insulation and maintenance of these items are all a negative return on carbon use reduction, i.e., it takes more carbon than it saves.
Next, I would manufacture and install a massive number of nuclear power plants. Tens of thousand of them.
There, that ought to give y'all to think about.
I am still waiting for any ideas on how to reduce our dependance on carbon based fuels from someone else.
Where are you going to store all the nuclear waste?
I know I did not post my plan. I am waiting for others to post theirs first. I have, on occasion, posted parts of my plan for the sake of getting a debate going.......so far, no joy.
If you have a plan, let's hear it.
Where it is being stored now. However, my nuclear waste will only have to be stored for 300 to 400 years. Yes, that is a long time but way shorter than the current waste that needs to be be hidden away from humans for up to 50,000 years.
Good start.
Next question, please.
And where is it being stored now?
How is your nuclear waste different from current nuclear waste? However, my nuclear waste will only have to be stored for 300 to 400 years.
scientists cant pass legislation. the solution has to be political unless you believe people and corporations will spontaneously step up and shrink their carbon footprints
" the solution has to be political"
and the politicians are owned by Capitalists who now make ALL the laws, regs, rules, so there simply cannot be a solution by politicians, even if there were a technical/scientific solution (there ain't)
too late to reduce carbon footprint. The planet is in or rapidly approaching the tipping point of no return.
As soon as arctic tundra releases gigatons of methane, already in progress, GAMEOVER
Currently, nuclear waste is being stored in vast under ground, read, in mountains, in the West.
"My" nuclear waste is not a by product of uranium.
You made an incorrect assumption.
