She painted with a broad brush and said that's what Republicans want. I strongly disagree that a majority of Republicans want that.
" The US is becoming less of a Christian Theocracy not more."
typically, you don't have clue.
the counts of Christians and evangelicals are down,
BUT
the hardcore Christian Taliban are pushing hard at all levels govt to force Christian Sharia on everybody else, so AOC's comment is legit, accurate.
forced-birth, LGBT hate, teaching Bible in public schools, SBOE ing up school books with Christian crap, pro-rape, le IX shenanigans, Christian stuff on taxpayers property, etc, etc. while whining how badly Christians are persecuted for not being able to over the people the Christians hate.

While there are certainly conservatives and Republicans who don't hold views consistent with a theocracy, it's rare to find a Republican legislator who does any better than simply abstain from the conversation. Conservatives who are vocally pro-choice, who support LGBT soldiers, and who feel that separation of Church and State is important simply don't have that kind of representation in the Republican Party at the moment.
Seems more productive to channel that frustration towards the Republican Party than towards someone who is highlighting a problem in the Republican Party that you'd likely agree was a problem were it not written by a Democrat.
I have expressed my disagreements with the extreme end of the party extensively. If they are going to give up on being fiscally conservative they sure as should be socially moderate.
I guess my point is what you view as the "extreme end" of the party is driving the entire party's agenda, with almost no pushback from the supposed moderate legislators in the party.
The only difference between what you're saying and what she's saying is that she's taking the GOP to task as a whole. Even if I was a moderate conservative I'd have a hard time finding fault in what she said.
I can't think of a single piece of legislation recently passed by Republicans that promotes or ensures equal treatment for people who are not observing Christian view of sexuality or family. Meanwhile there have been numerous pieces of legislation designed to support businesses who practice discrimination on supposedly Christian grounds, usually passed overwhelmingly by Republicans.
Extreme end? That's the main part of the GOP.
The ironic thing here is I would like for Christianity to have more influence over the Republican party. If these Christian-in-name only Republicans actually followed their savior's example, we'd have: universal healthcare, less wealth inequality, a compassionate border solution, prison reform, and zero wars. Evangelicals seem to only start pounding the Bible when it's about gay rights and abortion, two issues Jesus didn't give a about. The hypocrisy of that group is aggravating. Go to church on Sunday, take a campaign donation on Monday from some piece of corporation that laid off 20% of the workforce as their profits soared to "stay compe ive."

Moderates have been primaried, purged, or intimidated into compliant silence and always, blindly voting with the party.
Sounds more like you're saying you want Jesus, not Christianity, to have influence on the GOP. Good luck with that.
Well, Jesus is supposed to be Christianity. That fact is also lost on evangelicals as they dig up Old Testament verses that supposedly endorse whatever bat ideas they have.
But it's not and never has been. You think Jesus would have been leading the crusades?
Trump removed any doubt about how hypocritical evangelicals are and specifically how they're more or less just extremely hateful people. Trump is the most godless president either party has had since Warren G. Harding in terms of his lifestyle but the evangelicals didn't give a about the three wives, affairs, greed, etc. They were just happy to see someone who hated the same minorities they hate.
Indeed. Leaders for millennia have cherry picked scripture for use as propaganda to support war and conquest. My feeling has always been that since Christianity is centered around a relationship with Christ (who is essentially an avatar of God), anyone who calls themselves a Christian should refer to Christ as the moral authority on matters. Christ would not reject poor migrants, would not be too happy about a for profit healthcare system and our collective devotion and relentless pursuit of "mammon" (often personified as the anti-Christ). Christ had nothing to say about gays and abortion, yet those are the core issues supposed "Christians" are most concerned with for some reason. Their inconsistency is amusing.
It's funny. I even tried to bridge the gap with Chris a bit trying to appeal to him through his religion, saying Trump's only allegiance is to "mammon" (which the Bible has symbolized as the anti-Christ), so why would any good Christian follow this guy? Trump's history as being a greedy, uncaring businessman (and bad businessman at that) didn't matter. He owns the libs. All that matters.
Chris is about as Christian as I am.
Fair enough and agree 100% with your last comment.
Kind of hard to argue with that, but I'm sure some s will try to.

"I don't like this legislation, better tie it to AOC and put a big picture of her in the article so the dummies will share it."
Every Republican candidate in 2020 is going to have Pelosi and AOC in their campaign ads.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Reveals Chilling Morning Ritual In Face Of Death Threats
“I‘ve had mornings where I wake up & the 1st thing I do w/ my coffee is review photos of the men (it’s always men) who want to kill me,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
a minor league baseball team that depicted her as an “enemy of freedom” in a Memorial Day tribute clip
a controversial video that the Fresno Grizzlies aired at Chukchansi Park with a Twitter thread explaining how her life has changed due to “the flood of death threats” that those kind of “hateful messages” inspire.
Ocasio-Cortez said the number of threats against her increases whenever the widely watched conservative cable network Fox News gets “particularly aggressive + hateful” with its rhetoric toward her.
“It’s very clear that when right-wing media starts to heat up, that’s directly correlated to the amount of violent targeted threats we get,”
