There is no point to Biden's candidacy other than giving the establishment the corporatist Democrat it wants. If he caves on the Hyde Amendment but remains the same on things like healthcare and Wall Street he'll still be the preferred establishment candidate.

I think he feels, as Hillary did, "It's His Time", with support in the polls, thinking it will be a walk in the park to the WH.

He'll definitely handle Trump better than Hillary did, especially since he can play the insult game himself. Also, even though he's a Delaware Corporatist, he doesn't come off as an elitist the way Hillary did and can relate more to working class voters than she did.

He's not going to breeze through the primary process like Hillary did though. There's a target on his back right now and all of the other candidates are going to seize on the Hyde Amendment to take him down since abortion is the hot button issue right now. By the time voting happens in Iowa I think his lead will have mostly gone away.

I think the article has a valid point that there's really nothing that makes his candidacy unique if he's just going to follow the polls and end up as far to the left as other primary candidates are on issues like abortion.

What makes any of these candidates unique though? The primary process is going to be a race to the left and then the nominee will spend the rest of his or her time trying to convince swing state voters he or she really isn't that far left.

Eh I think that's the process for someone like Biden or Harris or Booker but I don't see Sanders or Warren trying to convince anyone he or she isn't that far to the left if he or she wins the primary.
