What sucks about Riker's is that you can get sent there just for the holding period.

I saw a do entary about it awhile ago. There’s more or less rampant prison rape and violence that the guards either do nothing about or even encourage.
Theres a decent doc on this on Netflix or Prime

Put the same ty prisoners in a brand new jail and it will still be a hole.
Subject innocent people to the authority of prison guards who arrange fights between them so the guards can book make on who wins and those innocent people will be a lot more violent than they were before.
It’s actually hilarious though that Republicans are outraged by AOC wanting to shut down one of the most backwards and poorly run prisons in the country (a prison that Deblasio already said is going to be shut down at some point) and use the land to fight climate change.
