I wish we could sign a decent backup C and not have to waste a first rounder at the position. Or just bring Milutinov over, I suppose. Isn't that why he was drafted? He seems to be balling overseas.

With how close the 20-40 being in this draft, I’d look into trading #19 with Philly for their #24 and #33 unless there’s someone that fell to 19. I’d personally love some combo of Claxton, Windler, Williams, Bazley or Okeke.

Washington is good. And its not really that he's "below" Grant and Thybulle--hes on the same tier as them, may bring the same level of effectiveness but in a different way. Washington is the safest pick of all the prospects I listed. But at the same time, i dont think he has that much "boom" potential.
I would take PJ Washington over every prospect on your list except for Bol Bol. More than willing to package both picks to move up to get either

I disagree, I think he's clearly much better than any of the players listed. Thybulle is probably a better Sefolsha type with better offense and disruptive defense. Grant is probably a 20 mpg backup PF. I think Washington is a could be a very good starter, maybe better than that. Really like his potential.

The one thing that stood out that made me a doubter of Washington was his poor ability to finish. He makes attempts to scoop the ball in and fails miserably with his left. I feel like his feel on the offense is one dimensional and too mechanical to be anything special. Thats just me, man. Just my opinion.

That would leave the Spurs with three rookies to figure out how to integrate (a lot of bodies in Austin), and second rounders aren’t ideal because to sign them to anything more than a min contract requires you to eat into exceptions. And no second rounder will lock up for a long period of time at the minimum.

Forbes: NBA Mock Draft 2019: Zion Williamson, Ja Morant And R.J. Barrett Ahead Of 27 Question Marks
    Brett Knight
    Editor's Pick1,087 views Jun 10, 2019, 07:00am

    19. San Antonio Spurs
    Rui Hachimura, forward, Gonzaga
    6 feet 8 inches, 230 pounds
    2018-19 stats: 19.7 points per game, .591 field-goal percentage, .417 3-point percentage, 6.5 rebounds per game

Mock draft pick and analysis by Forbes contributor Rob Wolkenbrod: "Hachimura is a project for the Spurs at forward, with an inconsistent outside shot and unimpressive rebounding for a player with a power-forward-esque body. However, Hachimura had only one full year of starting at Gonzaga, as a junior. He is still gaining experience and could be a steal this late in the draft." Read more on the Spurs' draft strategy from Rob Wolkenbrod.
    29. San Antonio Spurs (from Toronto Raptors)
Terance Mann, shooting guard, Florida State
    6 feet 7 inches, 215 pounds
    2018-19 stats: 11.4 points per game, .505 field-goal percentage, .390 3-point percentage, 6.5 rebounds per game

Mock draft pick and analysis by Forbes contributor Rob Wolkenbrod: "Mann would be insurance behind Dejounte Murray, who is coming back from a torn ACL, and would step in as a necessary perimeter defender for a team that lost the face of its defense last year with the trade of Kawhi Leonard. That alone would give Mann a role in Gregg Popovich's rotation. Still, while Mann flourishes in the paint, his offensive game needs work from everywhere else. If he finds a long-distance shot, the Spurs will have another late first-round gem."

San Antonio Spurs NBA Draft Preview: Terance Mann Among Targets For Team With 2 First-Round Picks
    Rob Wolkenbrod
    Contributor
    SportsMoney

The San Antonio Spurs usually sit quietly at the NBA draft, without much fanfare. Aside from the 2011 draft-day trade for Kawhi Leonard, they usually make an under-the-radar pick and carry on with their business.

This year may change that as the Spurs are one of a few teams with multiple selections in the first round on June 20. This expands the group of players for them to target and offers the chance to build the team's young talent.

    Team Needs

The current contracted roster for 2019-20 does not have too many needs to fill as 10 players are potentially set to return; however, Rudy Gay, one of San Antonio's top scorers from this past season, is a free agent, which opens a main forward spot in the middle of the lineup.

Gay's role was as a prototypical small forward, but the Spurs can use a versatile player, who has the ability to stretch the floor. They can still re-sign the UConn product and target a talent for the middle of the lineup, as upgrading the depth behind him — formerly Quincy Pondexter and Dante Cunningham — is necessary.

Another defensive guard is necessary for the Spurs, as well. Their play at the opposite side of the court did not match previous seasons, given the talent exodus of the 2018 offseason. Plus, Dejounte Murray's status with a torn ACL is unknown, making insurance for another potential injury necessary.

    First-Round Targets

Targetting that versatile, middle-of-the-lineup forward can happen at No. 19 overall. One potential option is Kentucky's P.J. Washington, whose NBA body and ability to stretch the floor should garner minutes immediately. If a player like Gonzaga's Rui Hachimura falls, his scoring ability is there, but a lack of rebounding and three-point shooting ability for his position makes him somewhat of a project.

No. 29 is the interesting spot for San Antonio, as this pick arrived via the 2018 Kawhi Leonard trade from the Toronto Raptors. The talent pool will, of course, decrease by this point. Finding a defensive-minded guard is difficult here, but Florida State's Terance Mann is among the few players of this caliber potentially available. If not, they can seek big-man depth and target Daniel Gafford or Croatia's Luka Samanic.

These picks also create the option to trade up. If the Spurs can work into the end of the lottery, then it makes draft night even more intriguing.

    Second-Round Possibilities

The second round once produced Manu Ginobili. While the Spurs may not find that type of player, there is value at No. 49 overall. Jaylen Nowell and Zach Norvell are among the back-end guard prospects that could stick in the second round. Missouri's Jontay Porter, who tore his ACL twice, represents a risk, and he may not play at all in 2019-20. If the organization can handle a medical redshirt for one year, this is a realistic scenario. Whoever is taken this late will not have any expectations.

    Free Agency Outlook

If the Spurs make both of their first-round picks, it will likely consume part of their projected $11.3 million in available money, pending the salary cap rises to $109 million. That only leaves roster openings for smaller salaries and if the front office re-signs Gay to go over the salary cap, so flexibility is minimal. Still, they can use another veteran wing for depth, whether or not someone at this position arrives at the draft.

    Best-Case Scenario

If the Spurs walk away from the draft with a wing-esque player and re-sign Gay, this is already a deeper team. With how close the Western Conference was, outside of the top spots, the small additions can make or break where they fall in the standings. As seen with Murray, Derrick White and Lonnie Walker, though — San Antonio's past three first-rounders — each spent most of their first season in the G League to develop. If a similar redshirt season happens for one or both of the No. 19 and 29 picks, these players may not have any impact on the 2019-20 team, so the only differences to team improvement can apply to free agency and how their already-established young talent develops.

    19. San Antonio Spurs: F Cameron Johnson, North Carolina. He’s one of the older players in the draft and ready to contribute right away thanks to his shooting ability.
    29. San Antonio Spurs: C Luka Samanic, Croatia. He’s viewed as a high IQ and skilled big man and the Spurs are the kings of taking fliers on international prospects in that mold.

In theory that would work, if the Spurs aren't married to anyone at 19 or the player that they like would still be there at 24 (Goga or Thybulle, possibly).

    24, 29, and 33.

Goga, Samanic and Roby would probably make the most sense in that scenario with Goga staying overseas for another year and Samanic and Roby on the roster.

2019 NBA Mock Draft 13.0: Is Ja Morant becoming a lock at No. 2?
    By Ben Standig

    19. San Antonio Spurs: Nickeil Alexander-Walker

    College: Virginia Tech
    Position: Shooting Guard
    Height/Weight: 6-5/205
    Year: Sop re

Alexander-Walker was the straw that stirs the drink for Virginia Tech.

The Hokies often needed the 20-year-old sop re to everything and, as demonstrated in the Sweet 16 loss to Duke, he's not there just yet.

The NBA team showing patience should be rewarded.
    29. San Antonio Spurs (via TOR): Luka Samanic

    International Player
    Position: Power Forward
    Height/Weight: 6'10"

The 6-foot-10 forward stood out at the Combine with his smooth athleticism, steady shooting stroke and hoops smarts. The Spurs could justify going with a forward since Rudy Gay and Dante Cunningham are 2019 free agents.

The Spurs have built a reputation as one of the best talent-developing franchises in the NBA, which would bode well for Japanese-born Hachimura. While he's built like an ox and plays like a bull, his consistency as a shot-maker and offensive player needs plenty of polish. San Antonio will value his two-way ability and versatility to play either forward position.
    Round 1 Pick 29

Okpala is built like a player you'd craft in a lab at 6-10 with a 7-2 wingspan. He's still raw, and his shooting is still a question mark despite a strong sop re season at Stanford, but his frame, obvious talents and upside long-term at this point in the draft are going to be too promising to pass on. The Spurs can think long-term here with Okpala as a potential development option at small forward.
    Round 2 Pick 19

They're trying to dump Jackson, as he's becoming an off the court problem. I'd never give them #19. Their GM would probably his shorts just thinking about offloading his problem for our best pick.

The reality is that he's really not Spurs material. He got arrested because he kept trying to get into the VIP section of some gig, and was incensed that they didn't know who he was. He was then arrested, and proceeded to flee the popo, while still in handcuffs, making him both monumentally immature AND colossally stupid.

    Mfiondu Kabengele
    C | Florida State | Sop re
    San Antonio Spurs

Kabengele has been a notable riser over the course of workouts and appears to be sitting pretty safely in the first round. He’ll turn 22 this summer, but he’s big, athletic, shoots with touch, and was exceptionally productive scoring and rebounding on a per-minute basis at Florida State. He’s not much of a passer and is strictly a high-energy guy who finishes plays, but there’s plenty of utility in that. Following his medical at the combine, teams seem to feel comfortable about the state of his knees, which had been a concern after he wore bulky braces all season. The Spurs have two first-rounders and need to beef up their frontline, and this could be a good spot to do it.
    29
    Matisse Thybulle
    SG | Washington | Senior
    San Antonio Spurs
    San Antonio Spurs (via Raptors)

There’s been a lot of speculation Thybulle has a promise somewhere in the 20s, dating back to his decision to skip the combine, although opinions vary as to where, and at this stage it’s still a bit unclear. He does seem like the type of prospect the Spurs can work with, given his strong defensive instincts and athletic gifts. If someone can develop his catch-and-shoot game and help him become a passable offensive player, Thybulle feels like a no-brainer rotation guy at worst. San Antonio does have a track record of trying out similar experiments.

    Spurs
    Keldon Johnson SG Kentucky
The Spurs have two first round picks so they could do a few different things here. If they stay here I’m thinking they go after two guard Keldon Johnson from Kentucky. The Spurs missed Danny Green’s longball last season and well Johnson is known for his sharp shooting.
    29

    Spurs
    Matisse Thybulle SF Washington
Look, when you get this late in the first round it’s really hard to project what player will go where. The Spurs have some weaknesses at certain positions but I still expect Pop to draft the best player on the board which means Thybulle to the Spurs.
