2 year MAX deal for Rudy with 2nd year only 2-3M guaranteed please. So basically he get his max salary year 1 + 2/3M in “year two” which ups his max for one year deal. I don’t think that one year total would be far off from what he would get if he signed a two year deal with another team since I don’t see anyone maxing him.

My guess is that in free agency Rudy would be happy to get 12M per year, maybe 2-3 years. If it’s two years, 24M, then signing the 2 year deal I described gets Rudy 20.5M basically for one year. I think it’s a more than fair deal where Rudy can still cash in the same 2 year deal next year when he hits FA again with another team.

I’d be fine with that - if that’s it. Means DeRozan/LMA core gets 2 full more years before the real changes. Or if DeRozan bounces Gay is still an expiring trade ballast. Just say no to anything year 3!

He’s Spurs’ best 6th man. Can shoot over any defender, creates mismatches, high 3pt percentage. Other bench Mills/Bertans/Belli streaky and defense lisbility. Walker has yet to show his value and consistency. I don’t know if we see Samanic/Keldon. So Gay has the best value. I like Spurs bring in an athletic SF and backup PF/C that should help with the minutes and his legs fresh

Why? Just because they are friends? Their contracts are totally independent of each other and if Rudy signs an extension and Demar doesn't it is not going to effect the way he plays basketball. That's just ridiculous.

No more than 2 years!!!! I figure if his game falls off a cliff in the 2nd year of the deal he is a good expiring contract, so hopefully they don't sign him for any longer than that.

He's going to have to move to full time PF so that takes him out of the starting rotation as long as LMA is healthy. Most people have him penciled in as starting at SF, but he's not as quick as he used to be or would need to be. That leaves us still looking for a SF

Pretty much the same as last year, the Spurs will play SF by unqualified committee. At least that is what I expect.

Rudy Gays friendship w/ DeMar isn't going to make them do anything.

Spurs traded away Duncans best friends for years ( Antonio/Malik/Monty Williams).

But now they are going to extend DeMar because of Gay's friendship with him?

Rudy is about to bend the Spurs over... He's got to know that he plays a position of great need for this team also the Spurs may have some compe ion in his fee agency. Rudy played well last year, I have a feeling lots of teams would be interested in a player like him and he may go after the money this time now that he is fully healed and feeling his old self again.

Would make sense to overpay for him this season if the Spurs are indeed staying over the cap and then get him to sign a discount deal next year tbh
