but in the primaries, people are trying to pander to the base. in republican primaries you'll see candidates trying to prove how conservative they are, and how moderate the others are. same story here, where all candidates have to somehow prove they are liberal enough to earn the vote of left wing primary voters

It's realistic because 100M Americans are ing stupid, thinking that Repugs will EVER do anything for them, and worse, that politics has nothing to do with their TV-watching lives.
