One question. Why is it wrong to want a citizenship question on the census?

I get that he mislead with the reason he wants it, but why would anyone find this unreasonable beyond being Anti-Trump?
    Is not anti Trump really.

Critics are seriously concerned that adding a single citizenship question to the 2020 census could scare away millions of immigrants from filling out their mandatory surveys — throwing off the count of who’s present in America that’s used to determine congressional apportionment for the next decade, allocate federal funding for infrastructure, and serve as the basis for huge amounts of American research. A skewed census would hurt the places in America where Latinos are most likely to live — cities and blue states — fueling both the lawsuit and the su ion that the Trump administration is engaging in deliberate subterfuge.

Article is quite old. If you read the tweet from boots, Trump pretty much confirmed the fears that adding this question implies.

Mostly spite for the confederacy honestly. They got to count their non-citizen slaves for political representation but now states can't count their non-citizen mojados? Bull . The confederate states want it both ways.

    Immigrants or illegals?
Why would illegals be counted? They cant vote so this is useless for re-districting which is what Trump and republicans want to do which plays in their favor.

    I'm a little confused, legitimately.

Is this meant to count/not count illegals or not?

They also still get to count their disproportionately high prison population, and the kicker there is that it makes things easier to to shift more power to rural areas because you have urban felons living in prisons that are usually out in the sticks.

The precedent is set. It's a much smaller sandwich they have to eat than the one the rest of America is forced to swallow through the slave states sticking us with the pos electoral college.

It's wrong because even if half the immigrant population is legally in the country, they're not actually citizens, and thus wouldn't count as citizens. At the very best it's a misleading question that will certainly be used for political gotchas and brings nothing to the actual goal of a census, which is to quantify the amount of people in the country (legally or not) in order to better distribute resources.

Your question of why somebody that's here legally wouldn't complete it, well, census are done per household. Say a kid is a citizen, but his parents are not, it's unlikely that family will participate in the census, given the current immigration policy including raids, etc. And frankly, they should totally count as far as surveying and resource distribution is concerned.

Lastly, I understand they want this question strictly for political reasons, but as far as the actual goal of the census is concerned, there's really no utility to it.

How many people even complete their census forms to be honest? I've never completed any myself. I just ignore it and usually pitch it in the garbage.

It is meant to count persons.

    Not citizens.

    That's all.

Immediately, social media pounced on the tweet, ridiculing the president’s bizarre, narcissistic impulse to laud himself

Trump’s fake patriotism was sop ric and insulting — so of course his supporters loved it

Donald Trump’s Fourth of July speech was sop ric.

    The fly-overs were anemic.

The pairs of Bradley fighting vehicles and M1-A2 tanks were practically invisible.

Everyone was soaked to the skin.

They even played the hoary redneck anthem, “I’m Proud to Be an American.”

    But the crowd loved it.

Trump told them the Declaration of Independence was written on “parchment.” They clapped.

He told them Lewis and Clark went on a “perilous expedition.” They cheered.

He told them that “devotion to our founding ideals led American patriots to abolish the evils of slavery, secure civil rights and expand the blessings of liberty to all Americans.” They cheered some more.

He reassured them that this country is

“the most exceptional nation in the history of the world, and our nation is stronger today than it ever was before and it is its strongest now.”

They cheered and waved flags and chanted “USA! USA! USA!”

Trump fed them this kind of red-meat faux patriotism for 47 minutes.

The crowd loved every minute of it.

    They cheered.

    They clapped.

They chanted “USA” over and over.

They waved flags and held their children aloft,

The crowd adored the man who delivered his fourth-grade-level history lesson in robotic, singsong cadences

that had nothing to do with the words he spoke.

It was another Trump teleprompter speech that sounded like he was reading it for the first time.

They loved every smarmy, self-satisfied syllable.

They cheered his attempts to stand at attention.

They didn’t care in the least that

it was the cheapest, lamest, most pathetic display of military might ever put on.

    It was Trump’s.

    He was all that mattered.
