That meeting with Toronto must have been like the lunch with Pop. Nephew with his head down on computer sleep mode.

Who said you'd have to re-sign him? Let him walk if he didn't fit, or wanted too much money.
Wait so youre saying youre not fine that we didnt get a better package than we did but youre okay with getting just two first round picks from the Clippers in the event Tobias walks. Your logic doesnt make sense and youre crying about nothing.

Spurs fans should be over Kawhi now. Toronto did everything for him. Accommodated his every request. Let him load management all he wanted. Let Uncle Dennis rule the roost. And, they won a freakin' le. And, he walked. He was never going to stay with the Spurs, no matter what the Spurs did for him. So get over him.
Exactly. He was gone no matter what we did. He and his group would have always manufactured some issue to justify and rationalize leaving. The only silver lining is the devastating humiliating loss sustained ny the Lakers.

That rumored package wasn’t some great haul the Spurs missed out on. Plus they’d have had to resign Harris to 5 years $180 mil. C’mon.
Agreed. It's not like Harris is some superstar and there are no guarantees with picks, but to me Harris would've been a better fit next to Aldridge. Maybe Harris' free agency this season played a part in the Spurs having the Clippers as their backup plan to Toronto. Sixers had to pay a lot to keep Harris.

Still much better than if he went to the Lakers but man that Bev-Nephew-PG13 perimeter defense is going to be nasty, tbh.

And then what do you have?
Then you can look at trying to open up cap space a lot sooner to sign someone else, or start rebuilding with the young guys.

Were the Clippers offering both draft picks? If so, Spurs should have taken that package. If you told me before the Derozan trade that the Clippers are offering Harris plus both draft picks in last year's draft (I would have wanted that as a minimum), I would have taken that deal over Derozan. I think the Spurs made a mistake sending him to the Raptors. He got a ring and went to the Clippers anyway.
I believe so, but not sure. I just know it was picks plus Harris. I wasn't all that excited about the Derozan news when I first got it last summer, but understood it.

Vague. Now you’re down to a couple prospects.

So what are you going to do with Derozan? Build around him, extend him? Please tell me what your strategy with Derozan is?

On a side note, he will be booed by the Lakers, Spurs & maybe even the Raptor fans. The good news for the Spurs is that both La teams are beatable and they are not as good as the Warriors with Durant.
Boo'd by the Lakers? They play in the same building. There will be boos and cheers.

Had Presti been able to strike a deal for George with the Raptors -- and Leonard was willing to stay -- George was believed to be willing to join the Raptors too, sources said. Presti pursued a package of Russell Westbrook with George to the Raptors -- with the NBA's Most Improved Player, forward Pascal Siakam as the centerpiece of a deal -- and Ujiri balked, league sources said. Ujiri had delivered Leonard everything that he wanted in a franchise: Leadership and trust, championship talent and a medical partnership that preserved and prepared his body. What Ujiri couldn't give Leonard was out of his control: Geography, weather, and a chance to return to his Southern California roots.

what does that mean? What's your long term strategy with him? Sure he's under contract right now, so what. What do you plan to do with him? Do you see him as part of the future, if not, what was the point of getting him if you're not going to extend him or re-sign him. At least you could have let Harris walk if you weren't willing to pay what he wanted or if he wasn't willing to take a decent discount to stay.

Would you be looking to trade Derozan and try and get more assets from him?

The strategy is to play him next season. At least you don't owe Tobias Harris eleventy billion dollars until 2030.

At least Harris spaces floor. comparing empty stats between DeRozan makes no sense. Harris would do more for what the spurs needs now that DeRozan by a mile.
Absolutely. At least one person on here gets it
