You can definitely tell the difference. I could tell the difference between 1600x900 and 1920x1080 on a 13 inch screen, and I don't have perfect eyesight.Who wants a 1200p portable computer? Good luck telling the difference on a 15 inch screen.
Just the opposite, really. 16:10 used to be the standard widescreen ratioIt really has nothing to do with eyes. You just fell for a marketing gimmick which disguises the fact that a 1200 is just a 1080 worked around. That 1080 and 1200 won't make a difference as manny said even if you can see "small details".
for laptops and monitors. The only reason that 1080p is prevalent today is because it's cheaper to produce, and it's an easy marketing gimmick. You'll find that most business laptops still use 16:10 panels. I personally think the extra screen estate is invaluable.
