The North side of Houston, suburbs like Kingwood and the Woodlands are really nice, but since Hurricane Catrina the actual city is pretty bad. Pearland and Friendswood south of houston are ok, but everywhere else is in bad shape.
Wow. Good friend of mine spent some years in Old Bridge. Seemed like a nice town...at least where he lived.

Houston isn't " thug" at all.
Every big city will have spots where it can be " thuggish" or " ghetto".
Houston has some great areas to live in.

Spurs make push for McDyess

The Spurs are apparently going hard to the hoop in their pursuit of free-agent forward Antonio McDyess.
According to an NBA source with knowledge of the negotiations, the Spurs are believed to have offered McDyess a three-year contract starting at the full mid-level exception, expected to be worth $5.854 million next season.
That third year, which is only partially guaranteed, could be what puts the Spurs over the top.
It has been widely speculated that McDyess, 34, only plans to play two more seasons. If the Spurs' rumored bid is true, they have essentially sweetened their best two-year offer by guaranteeing McDyess extra cash in 2011-12.
In a matter of hours, the Spurs appear to have moved on from their failed pursuit of Rasheed Wallace.
After Wallace agreed to terms with Boston on Sunday, the 6-foot-9 McDyess surfaced as the Spurs' new Plan A. Thanks to an aggressive supposed bid, they have emerged as the front-runner to land him.
Cleveland and Orlando are considered the Spurs' top compe ion, while the Pistons have hopes of convincing McDyess to return for a sixth season in Detroit.
Since a pre-draft trade sent big men Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas to Milwaukee in a package for swingman Richard Jefferson, the Spurs' top offseason priority has been to fortify their frontcourt.
McDyess, who averaged 9.6 points and 9.8 rebounds last season, would seem to fulfill that need. Should he accept the Spurs' offer, it would put an end their pursuit of other significant free agents including their own unrestricted free agent, Drew Gooden.
A rugged rebounder and physical interior defender on the cusp of his 15th season, McDyess has been on the Spurs' target list for quite some time. The team cast overtures his direction as far back as November, when McDyess became a free agent following his inclusion in the Chauncey Billups-Allen Iverson deal.
McDyess eventually re-signed with the Pistons then, citing a loyalty to the organization and his desire to play for a championship-level team. Since then, however, the landscape has changed dramatically in Detroit.
The Pistons finished eighth in the Eastern Conference and were swept from the playoffs in the first round by the Cavaliers.
Then there is the matter of money. After committing most of their available cash to free agents Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva this summer, the Pistons will only have between $3 million-$5 million to offer McDyess substantially less than other suitors.
The Spurs appear to have announced their courtship of McDyess in a big way. The ball is in his court now.

I live in north Houston and it is not in " bad shape". Houston didn't really get effected by Hurricane Katrina, which was 4 years ago. And the only part to get effected by Ike was downtown, but most if not all has been fixed by now. Other parts of Houston had some flooding and the electricity was out for about 2-3 weeks but thats it. Everything is fine now. When's the last time you've been to Houston?

I wonder how confident he is in the Spurs viewing Rasheed as their number one target. He has said it enough that it must be true ......... right?
I only stayed in Houston one night, but I think my friend and I picked the wrong place to stay. We were only a few miles from the airport (never a good idea in an American city, as that's usually where the rough parts are) on 45 or 59 and it was so dodgy that we just got ourselves some liquor and holed up in the room for the night. I'm pretty sure I heard gunshots at least twice. Needless to say, we hightailed it for Louisiana early next morning!
The part of Jersey where I'm from (Northeast) is pretty densely populated and citified. As you start travelling South things get more open/less condensed. AC is funny because although it has a lot of money floating around in casinos and such the city it is interwoven with some rather seedy looking areas....still a cool place to visit though.I take it that's to the south.
I was on my way from NYC to Atlantic City, so I admit that I didn't see much of the state. Yeah some of those areas can be pricey. River oaks is one of my favorite neighborhoods to go thru, the houses are absolutely insane how big some of them are. Sugarland is really nice too.
So, I'm thinking that if we don't hear that he accepted the Spurs offer within 2 days, he's not going to sign with us.

That is a bad area lol. Greenspoint Mall is the mall right by that area you are talking about and everyone here calls it Gunpoint Mall. Not a good choice by you and your amigo sir. Ever make a trip again here feel free to ask any questions. There are nice areas believe it or not.

So if whether Dice is coming or not, he has to decide, and fast.If he won't make a commitment with the offer within 24-48 hours, then you make a run after who's left - none of which are as good, but one of whom will have to do - e.g. Big Baby, Bass if available , ...
If he won't make a commitment within that time period, he is just unlikely to sign. It's not money, he just isn't capable of moving and accepting a great offer from the Spurs. You realize that he will never, ever in a million years sign (if he can't make a commitment within 24-48 hours) with you, write him off as having a freak phobia of winning a championship and move on.
I think we'll hear something tomorrow. He has the Spurs offer. He wants to meet with Dumars one more time before deciding, which means he'll likely meet with him tomorrow. Business is business. I'd assume we'll know for sure sometime tomorrow evening or Thurs morning the latest.
Yeah, I needed to get my glasses fixed so I went for a walk one day and it is a very poor place. Two streets back from the boardwalk and you're in a different world. Sad, really.
