I call a playmaker a true number 10. Like Beto Alonso, Aimar, Bochini, Riquelme... guys that can come from the middle and organize the offense.

Messi is a forward, he's just very unselfish, which is great. I'm not complaining, I just think he's more of the style of Franchescoli or Del Piero that can finish just as easily as they can assist.
People say that Messi isn't a playmaker 'cause he plays better as a forward but he's so talented that he can play anywhere (offensively), let me ask you something: what did those guys you named make better than Messi (other than set pieces)?

have you ever seen Riquelme, Aimar and all those guys get the ball in miedfield, get past two or three defenders, make a "through" pass and create plays as often as Messi does?

Messi as a playmaker is better than most "playmakers", the thing is he plays better as a forward but seeing as we have forwards to spare and lack "playmakers" I'm OK with playing Lio in that role.

The problem I have with him in that role is twofold:
    1) He has to start from behind, and if they throw two or three guys at him and slow him down, our offense becomes completely stale. See: the game against Colombia.
    2) I rather he get the ball closer to the penalty area, and make the passes there. Completely agree he's a better forward. We have guys to move the ball there. Gago has shown today he can do it. Di Maria, even though he's a mess with the ball, can do it too. He has a second gear. I think Pastore is another guy that you can play there and he can be a great associate for Messi in that part of the pitch.

Basically, it's such a huge role that I don't want everything on Messi alone creating the opportunities. I think he'll make the right pass anyways if he gets the ball more upfront.

Oh, and thanks to the ref for that yellow card on Lavezzi in the last minute... I think he's suspended for a game now

Wow, Agüero with 3 goals is the current top goalscorer in this cup. That's how sad this cup has been right there.

Ehh, not really. 3 goals in 3 games isn't too bad. Not even all teams have played 3 games yet, right?

Yeah, a goal per match is great for a player.

No brainer. Out of Chile and Uruguay I prefer Uruguay (this may come to bite me in the ass).

If it's between Chile and Uruguay, I'll take Chile. Event though Chile has played great so far, Uruguay has much more rough defenders, including a very tough midfield. It's gonna be a difficult game whoever it is.

    White socks > Black socks

And on a more serious note, I like the players that Batista put on the field but I don't like the way he placed them.

    He played:

    Romero

    Zabaleta Burdisso Milito Zanetti

    Gago Mascherano Di Maria

    Messi Higuain Aguero

    I would have played:

    Romero

    Zabaleta Burdisso Milito Zanetti

    Gago Mascherano

    Aguero Messi Di maria

    Higuain

It's a waste to have Messi on a side, yeah I know that Messi then moves wherever he wants but that leaves a hole on the right wing of Argentina.

And Di Maria's greatest asset is his speed, he needs to play on the wing to take advantage of that.

    Argentina

losing to Chile would be like Spurs losing to the Mavs
losing to Peru would be like Spurs losing to the Grizzlies

all they can do is hope to keep some self respect and lose to Uruguay

I'm still hoping that Uruguay keeps it close 'till the end of the game and then lets Mexico draw.
