This is what im hoping for next year:

    C - Duncan, Thomas, Mahinmi
    PF - Wallace, Gooden, Bonner
    SF - Ariza, Finley, Gist
    SG - Manu, Mason, Hairston
    PG - Parker, Hill, a cheap Vet/Rookie

but I'm not sure if we can afford it all. Can we land Wallace and Ariza?

The only ones I don't feel good about is leaving Bowen, but I feel like he's at his end. Also I'm hesitant to keep Thomas and Finley, but I think they've got one more season left in the tank. I'd like to keep Bonner towards the end of the bench. Yeah he can shoot 3's, but so can a lot of our guys. What we need out of a PF/C is defense and rebounds, which isn't quite his specialty.....at all. We could trade Bonner and KT for an athletic big with rebounding and defense, but I don't see the front office having THAT crazy of an offseason. The roster above is already super busy by the spurs' standards.

If Manu, Duncan, and Ian can stay healthy, we can be pretty stacked and on the rise instead of declining.

Can someone tell me if this is possible?...Is it possible to sign Drew Gooden using the MLE and still get another small foward, even a decent one like Ariza, Matt Barnes, The guy with the funny name on the bucks etc. I don't know how'd we'd get that second solid SF, would we have to trade? or release players to make enough room for it. Is it possible? Imagine if we got Gooden and Ariza it would be great.

I think it would be interesting to try and make a move with the Wizards, either for Caron Butler, or a move for Blatche..

I have no idea what the Wizards financial situation looks like, so I'm just guessing here..their big 3 experiment hasn't worked out well, so they could blow up..they're most likely going to get a top 3 pick, which they'll have to pay, and probably want to pay big in the future..they have a few guys that they'll wanna keep in Haywood, Nick Young, McGee, maybe others..

Manu's contract ends this year, while Butler's doesn't end until the year after..

I'm just throwing that out there..if we could somehow pull off a deal involving Manu for Butler, I'd jump on it..

another option could be to package a combination of Thomas/Oberto/Bonner to get Andray Blatche, but that would probably require taking Deshawn Stevenson's bad contract in return..

I have no idea about their financial situation though, so I have no idea if they'd be interested in deals to help their cap and to unload contracts..I'm sure they could get a better offer for both..

Manu/Oberto for Richard Jefferson is a very realistic deal, but I'm not sure if I would want that..I'm not really a fan or RJ..
Nice thinking on Blatche. Love to steal him away from them, although there is a risk that he's one of those guys who just never quite gets it though. I'd like to see whether Tim could turn him into a playa.

Blatche is certainly a better option than Sheed. I can't believe so many people want him here - he's 35, back to his bad Technical form, oft injured, and hasn't much left in the tank, not to mention the fact that the NBA has become quicker and more athletic (not a direction Sheed is headed).

There really is no point in going young as long as Duncan is there.

If I'm SA, I do the same ol' same ol' next season. Add a guy like Sheed and hope to get lucky with a guy for the vet min. If you can get Sheed you let Gooden go. Only MLE to sign one.

If by mid-season its not working, I then offer Ks across the league to try to get a player (Vince Carter, etc..) from a team who wants 2010 cap space. SA will have nearly 30 mil in last year's including Ginobili. Make sure I don't take any K longer than Duncan's. So any K 2011/12 or shorter is good.

Come 2011/12 when Tim likely hangs them up, then you start anew with what's left.
    That's why you're not a Spurs fan, but a Faker double-agent...

The league has moved on, and an old team of slow vets will not get it done any more. We have to inject youth and athleticism now to keep up with teams like Portland, New Orleans, Utah, Denver, and of course the Lakers, all of whom are more athletic than we are. If we don't, there's no way Tim wins another ring before he retires. The NBA has left us behind.

Good riddance, all of them. This may just save the Spurs from prolonged agony of mavs-like mediocrity.
"Good riddance" is quite insulting to a list of players, 4 of whom won championships here, and the rest of whom have done the best they could. I mean, trade some of them (not Manu, Mason, KT) if possible, but no need to insult the great contributions they've made here.

Parker is a keeper - best PG in tne NBA.
Duncan for leadership and limited quality minutes.

The rest is garbage or close to it.

In other words, REBUILD right now.
Tony Longoria is definitely a great player but it's still egoistic to define him as the best PG in the NBA as there are also many other PGs better than him, like Jason Kidd and Billups. One of the most important job for a PG is just to run well his team's offense with assists, but the number of Tony Longoria's assists is not very convincible for a good PG compared to the real PGs like caldron and Kidd. Tony Longoria is more of a scorer than a play maker IMHO.

the spurs have already gotten a lot younger since last summer by replacing the antique veterans with fresh youngsters like Roger Mason. this summer the spurs still should do the same job instead of rebuilding, some small fixes will be more than enough to keep the spurs in the top 3 teams in the western conference (the other two are Lakers and Mavs). Only rockets fans and idiots wish the spurs to rebuild then give up their top 3 space for a mediocre team like the rockets. I'm not meaning the records of the regular season, I mean the postseason, first round precisely.

So I expect the spurs will continue their rejuvenating work this summer, for that reason the old spurs most likely to leave are Bowen and Fin. After realizing the dream of ring, Fin doesn't have any reason no more to remain in San Antonio and the spurs also need to cut off some old guys, so it'll be a good option for both Fin and spurs to get divorced. Of course Fin will play the role of the wife as his contract is in roster option this summer, I mean it's Fin that will decide whether to play on spurs for one more year or not, I think Fin will choose to opt out this contract for a bigger one.

geniunely I'm a big fan of Bruce Bowen, but I have to admit that Bowen is already too old to defend his glory of "the best defender on this planet". His contract still has one more year, which makes it an 10-expiring contract that is very attractive to those james-lovers like Knicks and Nets. The best scenario is Bowen gets traded to either Nets or knicks for some picks and young talents, for sure it will also involve some garbage contracts from Knicks or Nets to match Bowen's 5m contract which is also kind of a garbage. even if the spurs fail to find a adopter for Bowen, it's still a better option for spurs to waive him than to keep him. Obviously the spurs will have to rebuild in 2-3 seasons when Manu and TD get senile, so the spurs won't have too many good years to go. Only decent role players can hardly keep this team standing if the pillars collapse, now it's better for spurs to sweep their bad contracts than to expect those fade stones to re-shine.

    Players who need to go:

Finley - He doesn't give our team any edge. He's just a safety blanket for Pop, and our offense is predictable and routine with this guy.
KT - old, slow, he is the epitome of the current spurs, not athletic and too slow to operate a dynamic defense. Our ability to double team is ineffective because we can't switch if our life depended on it.
    Vaughn - Vaughn
Oberto - stick a fork in him
Bonner - he is not a killer. There are other 3 pt specialists we can get/develop to replace him.
Udoka - he is what 35?? or something. No way is he Bowen's apprentice. I wish we kept Hairston

The rest stay. I'm tired of this geriatric nonsense.
    Lmao at Geriatric nonsense. +1

Good that you think this way because Parker will bring the Kidd to school in the 1st round of the playoffs, and then do the same with Billups in the 2nd round. After that I think you will ask Magic to un-retire or something
