He's the reason why they lost Kyrie. He got Tristan Thompson and JR Smith overpaid with contracts. Lebron is not a great GM it's why he will flee Cleveland after this year. Players in general are pretty stupid when it comes to building a team and scouting talent. Duncan once admitted in an interview when he first saw Parker and Manu practice he didn't think they would amount to much. Jordan balked at Krause for trading Oakley for Cartwright and at the idea Horace Grant could be an adequate replacement for Oakley.
Jordan also wanted his old teammate Joe Wolf over Grant or Pippen hahaha. And let's not even discuss his draft picks. So yes, players don't have a ing clue most of the time on who to play with.

I think in fairness to Tim Duncan when Tony first came to San Antonio, he was 18 years old and basically just a fast skinny kid couldn’t shoot the ball. And Manu at one point was an Accident waiting to happen. Jerry did make a lot of good moves for the Chicago Bulls that he never got any credit for. My understanding is that Michael Jordan basically hated his guts his entire career, going back to them having a big disagreement over his injury during the second season of his career. Jordan wanted to come back and Jerry did not want him to come back, fearing re-injury that season.. Apparently Jordan held it against him forever.

Sorry, you don't get to sit out a season and make demands. At least you shouldn't get to. If he sat out for bargaining power, I think he might have lost it. We'll see.

If I was going to sign him, he'd have to agree to a pay cut if he ditched the team doctors and went on his own for more than a couple weeks. I don't get the "status" thing. He's got a finals MVP like AI and a couple DPOY awards like Marcus Camby. What ing status? He's not Durant level, and he the entire season away. That really took a hot wet piss on his status.

He'll get paid, but he won't ever have the status he thinks he should, if he indeed thinks that. It's like someone demanding you call them by a manufactured nickname. Odds are, just by demanding it, you're going to avoid calling them that.

If he's really using that angle, I hope he gets traded.

When did AI ever win Finals MVP? Shaq won it the one time AI made the finals.

Sadly, Kobe gave himself the Black Mamba BS and somehow it stuck.

But, I agree if this were a power move, I'd want him traded. I'm almost more inclined to believe Kawhi is just grasping at straws to get healthy but the people around him view it as a cash cow and are trying to wring LeBron group like perks from the Spurs. But who knows really.

Sure didn’t. But he had a broken foot. So the organization was genuinely concerned about him getting hurt again. Apparently the team doctors did not really want him coming back that season. Sadly in our situation, our best player was cleared multiple times and just sat on his ass.

I am really tired of uncle dennis. I imagine the Spurs have to be tired too. So sad.

Just make it clear to him that he is not going to be traded. Get on the same page with managing his health this summer and make it clear he is not going anywhere. At the end of next year we can still offer the most money. He has to come back and prove he is still a great and reliable player. He is completely unreliable in every aspect right now.

That ha always been kind of my PoV bc I don't think the Spurs will get trade offers that will be worth it and no player would be better than a healthy Kiwi. If he can't be healthy then its a sad situation for everyone involved, but at least he wasn't supermaxed prematurely. His uncle may be offended but I don't know how he can rebuff a request to play prior to getting such a contract when his nephew missed the entire season after seeing 3 different medical groups.

Part of me agrees with you, but I have a feeling of PATFO does that, he's going to walk after next season and we will have nothing to show for all the years of developing him.

I actually always respected Tim for giving Manu and Tony a chance even when he was skeptical about their talent. I read an article in '03 after the Spurs won the le that said Duncan was skeptical about Tony/Manu's talent but trusted Pop and RC to handle them. They are people who try to discredit Duncan's success as a player and say he was lucky that he got to play with Manu and Tony or he would have been like KG when it came to winning. Obviously that to me is bs. Duncan deserves a lot of credit for having the patience and allowing Manu and Tony to grow as players. They are a lot of guys who if they were in the prime of their careers would have balked at the idea of playing with 2 raw unknown commodities.

Jordan was the anti Kawhi in his situation. I remember hearing about how he drove Reinsdorf and Krause crazy with his demands to play in the playoffs. Jordan was straight up crazy compe ive that even when they warned him he could risk serious injury by playing in that playoffs that he told both Krause and Reinsdorf to off.

It sucks but at least we got 1 le out of him unlike OKC when Durant left or Cleveland the first time when Lebron left.

It is a tough decision. I think simply mending fences and offering him the most money anyone has ever made in that organization given what has happened is so risky. Sadly all he had to do was make a better and more genuine effort to get along and play this season and they be offering this no problem.

Didn't we keep Sean Marks as a backup center for way past his 'sell-by date' because he was Duncan's buddy. I have no problem with some 'perks" for superstars as long as they don't materially affect the team in a negative way. I don't think most teams give a rat's ass about ANY player's 'posse' hanging around or being in their personal group of friends, as long as they don't get in the way of the business of running a team, especially when it comes to drugs.
