Two day ago I was just thinking: I wonder what ever happened to Eddie Currie, the Spurs could try this guy out.

Make all the funny jokes you want.Ill be on the short list of folks who like this signing. A motivated curry is worlds better than the trash the spurs have been looking at. At the least he can muscle down on bigger centers. Granted he cracks the rotation.

Again, I doubt he makes the roster over Derrick Brown. If anything he's a big body for Tim and Tiago.

Man I gotta give dude props for the weight loss alone. I don't think most of you understand how hard it is to change your eating habits an lose that much weight. I'm in the process of losing right now. I workout hard everyday. To everyone else I've worked a wonder on myself, but to me I got a long way to go. My energy has gone sky high, so with where he was to where he is. Man dude can't help but to be motivated. If he make this team or not, knowing Pop he won't. But he get props from me. That is my motivation in this weight loss game.

Spurs have already 14 players. If it was Curry or Brown, I would choose Brown.

Big addition: It was hard to miss the surprise addition to the training camp roster during Monday’s media day session. Seven-foot, 295-pound center Eddy Curry always has been a magnet for attention, starting with his selection at the No. 4 overall pick in the 2001 draft.

Curry, with career averages of 13.0 points and 5.2 rebounds over 10 seasons with the Bulls, Knicks and Heat, was signed to a non-guaranteed contract after participating in open gym sessions last week. He says he lost 15 to 20 pounds over the summer.

“I came here last week, and I like how they play,” Curry said. “I think I showed them I can get up and down the court when I came here. I think Pop knows what I can do. The main thing now is just to build on that and have a good camp.”

After playing pickup games with Curry, Duncan said he was encouraged by his conditioning.

“I see potential, potential, potential,” Duncan said. “He does seem fit, and I think he’s anxious. I hope that translates into something. He’s a heck of a body, a heck of a talent, and I hope we can turn that into something and give us another huge piece. It would be great.”

Laugh now, but don't sleep on Eddy Curry. Mark me as the first to say he'll make the team.

Is there any way that Derrick Brown and Eddy Curry could BOTH make the team? Get rid of Bonner?

They would have to make some type of trade and get nothing in return because right now they are at 14 players (15 max).

A person as big ad he was can't lose that much weight an not be motivated. he's sat on alotta benches to learn the game! I've never seen him play but if he put that weight loss with his talent some say he has, he'll be ok even if it's not with the spurs.

I'm fine with a low risk signing. But I'm just not sure why we wouldn't have signed Blatche, who could have been had, for this purpose? He's younger than Curry, and is probably a lower risk anyway

I think camp will determine a lot. Brown and Curry are new to the system so they'll have a lot to learn and prove. If Pop loves what he sees in both those guys I'd think he'd try to keep them both. Isn't Joseph one of the 14. Sending him to Austin for awhile might be a possibility. I think Blair will play with fire, and though Bonner is probably going to see a reduced role, I think he's going to be around. I wouldn't mind hearing from some of more learned folks on this site how they'd answer your question. All this being said, seven bigs is probably unlikely.

    Its a 13 man roster.
    Parker, Mills
    Green, Manu
    Kawhi, Jax
    Diaw, Blair
    Duncan, Splitter

thats roughly our top 10 who are pretty much going to make the roster without a shadow of a doubt. the spurs wouldn't have resigned mills if that wasn't their intention. candidates for the remaining 3 spots include: Neal (who i'm pretty sure will make it), De Colo, Joseph, Bonner, Brown, Curry.

Heck, lets call Neal a lock to make the roster he's been one of our best bench scorers for 2 years and Pop loves knockdown shooters with hustle. So its 2 spots that will be split between De Colo, Joseph, Brown, Bonner, and Curry. I'd imagine one of the guards make it (they didn't drag De Colo across the atlantic to play D-League), and one of the bigs make it. Bonner has about 3 million guaranteed. Smart money says Bonner makes it on that fact alone.

^Although if I'm not mistaken you can carry 15 but can have 13 active. That leaves 2 inactive spots, and I'd think Brown and Curry might hold those down. Co-Jo is better served in the d-league than rotting on the bench. He showed great flash in summer league and i'd love to see him develop more in the d-league

Probably what will happen if they both have a good preseason.

5.2 boards a game? Kawhi averaged 5.5 in 24 mpg.

Or a package of players with fewer in return, or trade for draft picks.

Would have to be a team under the cap though, or to a team with an unguaranteed/partially guaranteed salary. Remember when Ratliff was traded to the 'Cats for a protected second rounder?

How do you know the Spurs ignored him? You're just making ceap up to fit your cynical argument. Maybe they did and he rebuffed them. Who knows. But to just assume one thing to fit your narrative is assinine.
    Fair enough.

Umm... maybe it's because K-Mart isn't willing to accept the veteran's minimum. Why do you think he hasn't signed anywhere yet?
    Probably the case.

I don't see it personally. I could go jack the neighbor's trashbag on pickup day for free, dump it on the porch and see what I got, but I'm just going to make a mess with nothing of value to show for it.
    Agreed.

Coming soon: Spurs attempt to transplant Dejuan Blair's brain into Eddy Curry's body.

Just as an aside, when I visited SA to watch 12 games in 2003 Curry was one of the opposition players who impressed me most. I'm pretty sure he had mid-20s the night I saw him play us, and although the Bulls lost, Curry cut us up in the low post.

The opposition player who impressed me most during that trip though was Lamar Odom, who I'm pretty sure was a Clipper at the time and had an incredible all-court game.

Personally, I'm all for this move.

Low risk, high reward. If he sucks in camp, he walks with nothing lost.

However, perhaps I'm being overly optimistic, but if there is one team that can provide stability and structure for a lost case like Curry, it's the Spurs. As long as he still has his legs (which he should at age 29-30) and is in halfway decent shape (looks better than he did in his days in New York), then he could be the big man the Spurs need.

Will he be the savior? No. But he will be a big body in the paint that can score, and at least intimidate as a defender, even if he isn't known for his defense. Like many have said before, "you can't teach big", and Curry is the biggest guy in camp.

Maybe I'm just in desperation mode for a big at this point, but I really hope Curry works out for the Spurs.

Damn man, that's just sad to hear that Odom was the best opposition you saw live. I'd have to go with Jordan or Bird tbh.... or maybe Olajuwon.
