    Some Monday morning stuff...

**ATH Daje Johnson of Pflugerville Hendrickson finally told reporters this weekend that he has yet to receive a UT offer. He said he's still being evaluated by the staff and not sure when an offer will be extended. He plans on returning to Austin for the Kansas State game on November 19th partly because his father went to school there. UT is the only school currently recruiting him other than TCU.

**Not much to talk about when it comes to DE Torshiro Davis. He said he enjoyed his visit to Austin this weekend and Texas is now tied for second in his recruitment with Alabama, but still sits behind LSU (not a surprise). He still intends on taking three official visits and will return to campus later on in the year.

**DT Javonte Magee of San Antonio Sam Houston is still being very private about his recruitment, but it's worth mentioning that his good friend and teammate, DB Leo Thomas, decommitted from Arizona recently. This gives them and OL Ralphael Green a chance to revisit the possibility of the trio attending college together. Colorado is one school that is still trying to get all of them on campus at one time. With all of that said, A&M, Baylor and UT are the three schools pursuing Magee the hardest right now.

**No word if he is indeed that secret recruit we've talked about, but QB Trevor Knight of San Antonio Reagan has been contacted by the staff. Despite favoring the Longhorns early on, he stated that he's "very solid" to OU right now.

**2013 WR Jake Oliver was a bit of surprise visitor to Austin on Saturday. Here are some nice quotes from him about his gameday experience:

“He (Ash) looked pretty impressive to me,” Oliver said. “He was better than he was last week and I think if he keeps improving, he'll be really good.”

“It definitely raises my interest (Ash playing early),” Oliver said. “You see him have success and you feel like he'll be really good. Colt McCoy wasn't the greatest quarterback his freshman year and he ended up being one of the best in college football history.”
I have a funny feeling about Jake Oliver and Texas. I'm very encouraged.

Seems like Oliver is smarter than half our fanbase, who think we should be playing Case.
Great news on Adrian Phillips. After I saw this photo I thought for sure he would be out a long time.

malcom brown isn't ruling out a visit to norman. he talks to jackie shipp regularly and grew up a sooner fan. 24/7 said he still claims solid to texas for what that is worth, but not encouraging news as he is a staple of this class.

It was his third UT game of the year and he's probably already been told by Wyatt (or someone else on the staff) that he's the first WR offer for 2013. He may be feeling a little pressure to go with A&M, but it looks like he will take his time. Just his actions alone suggest he likes UT quite a bit and always has.

That update sucked from a UT fan's point of view, but it's encouraging that every year kids talk about looking around after being committed to UT for so long and it rarely happens. I don't see him going anywhere without Cole by his side and he also knows he'll probably start next year.

Update on DB Landon Collins...he's still saying he's making an official visit to Texas. His first official will be to Tuscaloosa for Alabama/LSU on November 5th followed up by a trip to Baton Rouge for LSU/Western Kentucky on November 12th. That leaves November 19th as the only open date that he'll be able to visit Austin for a UT home game. If he doesn't make it to town for the Kansas State match-up, he'll have to look at a December or January visit.

I'd add that Jake picked the OSU - Texas game over the Baylor - TAMU game. Both were high profile games featuring ranked teams.

Oliver's dad has spent time in the Texas High School Football coaching circles, professional sports and in the performance training field. I'm not saying he's not a loyal Aggie, but he is very well informed. I get the feeling that Papa Oliver will let his son pick the college he wants to attend.

I get the feeling that Oliver doesn't have to be talked out of going to TAMU, but instead he needs be convinced into picking UT. For an Aggie legacy, he seems wide open.

, even ultra cautious Hook Em 247 says Texas has a real shot, and is now listing Texas and TAMU as Jake's favorites.

For those interested (I know we get a lot of traffic from Shaggybevo):

I'll have a piece on 2013 Prestonwood Christian Academy TE / DE Christian Morgan this evening on Burnt Orange Nation. Great kid, and a very thoughtful interview. I'll post the link here when it's up on the site.

I'm not going to fret if Landon doesn't make the K State game. Texas is fortunate in the Football Banquet in December is a big deal. All of the 2012 commits will be there, in addition to all the current players and many former players. It's a good environment for a recruit to be around.

Collins seems to really want to go into sports broadcasting. I think this is Texas' best card to play. With the Longhorn Network on campus in addition to a terrific broadcast school, there some potential wow moments from the academic side of things.

I hope he's offered. He can help Texas somewhere. I definitely agree, he's a Longhorn the second Texas offers.

Dorial Green-Beckham officially named to U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Hillcrest High School football star and mega-recruit Dorial Green-Beckham was officially named a player in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl at a news conference at the school Monday.

Green-Beckham is one of 90 players selected from the top recruits nationwide by the game’s regional director and Rivals.com. His coach and adopted father will also be invited to take part in festivities surrounding the game, including an elite coaches clinic.

In a lighter moment, Green-Beckham’s younger brother Malachi had to cover up his black and orange Texas Longhorns t-shirt before game representatives would take a family picture. Texas is widely believed to be one of the schools in the hunt for the top-ranked receiver in the nation. He spent the past two weekends visiting the University of Arkansas and the University of Missouri.

Brenhamhorn, he's a poster on Hook Em 247 with a brother on the Brenham football team, laughed at the Malcom Brown rumor and said we're fine.

The guy is pretty keyed in and was nails before Malcom and Tim committed. I feel better right now.

Texas offered Elk Grove, CA Pleasant Grove OT / DE Arik Armstead per Rivals and 247. He is widely regarded as one of the best recruits in the country.

    Armstead decommitted from USC recently.

I was wondering if UT would pursue this kid after he decommitted from USC. I know his family isn't happy with their coaching staff and the way they've handled his brother. How anyone would let their child play for Kiffin anyway is beyond me. Do you have a link to a story, Bill?

I'm sure nothing will come of it, but WR Bryce Treggs of Bellflower, CA tweeted last night that he wants to take an official visit to Texas. He's apparently good friends with QB Connor Brewer and WR Cayleb Jones. They participated in Nike's The Opening together earlier this summer up in Oregon. He's currently committed to a pretty bad Cal program. It's disgusting to me that UT doesn't take advantage of the West Coast.

Fight On 247 (the USC 247 affliate) is acting funny, and I can't open their articles. There is a headline on Fight On about Armstead opening up his commitment written by Scott Schrader. Agent Schrader (Breaking Bad fans, anyone, anyone?) tweeted last night that Texas had offered Armstead. Nothing on Hook Em 247 just yet.

Texas not recruiting California is a miscalculation to me. The area is wide open right now. Even USC is having trouble locking down So Cal kids. I'm sure Oklahoma will be more than willing to step in and fill the void. I can't wait to watch the Sooners find another Kenny Stills and Tony Jefferson while Mack continues with his 90%+ Texas players nonsense.

Think of it like this. You're an employer in Texas and you want to find the best candidate for a job opening. Instead of a nation wide search to find the best candidate, you limit yourself to Texas candidates only. Did you truly hire the best person? My point is, if you cast a wider net you get better talent.

I revere Texas High School Football, it's the best in the country, but you can find diverse talents and skill sets out of state. For instance, Texas is shallow at DB in 2013. UT should look at out of state to fill their need and get the best player.

amen. the compe ion out there is a lot less fierce and there are so many damn recruits. i believe LA county alone has ~200 D1 recruits per year. USC can only take so many and is down, and what other tough compe ion do you have out there? oregon? not to mention no pac-12 schools play defense.

i love going after agholor and collins etc. those guys are worth pursuing even though major longshots. but i'd rather be in battle against USC/UCLA/Stanford/Oregon versus LSU/Bama/Florida.

That article you're referencing looked like he was just mentioning schools in passing, but the mods mentioned that the staff has been "frustrated" with "communication issues" from Peat. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what comes of it. Hard to imagine UT not getting an official visit from him unless they decide to cut the cord and pursue someone else. I hope Mack isn't just getting discouraged.

floss summed it up well, and i believe some comments under arik armstead thread - http://texas.247sports.com/Board/21/...tead-4938013/1

yeah, why i posted, was curious if any intel what these 'communication' issues were? i believe searels went out there again, brewer is calling him all the time, etc. i thought we were pushing hard. then i saw comments he made that stanford was recruiting him hardest, then FSU and NU, and didn't hear any mention of texas. then saw this. not good to hear.

gerry posted he would be adding an update later

We will find out how serious we are on Peat this weekend when the coaches have a week "off". If Searels is in Arizona this weekend, you can feel confident that the coaches are still pursuing strong. You can only imagine things if he is not there this weekend.
