Update on Hawkins...turns out his team did not qualify for the JUCO playoffs. Not sure if it came down to a coin-flip situation or what, but he could be in Austin as early as this weekend for the Texas Tech game now that he's free to focus on recruiting. Kansas State is more likely at this point, but that's where things stand with Hawkins right now. The only negative with this recruitment is getting him to qualify for enrollment should he pick the Longhorns.
Wish I knew more specifics. All I've seen is he's "not a sure thing." Big reason why Brown hasn't recruited JUCOs in the past. Not only is it difficult to get them to qualify for UT, but it's also difficult to keep them in UT.

Per OrangeBloods this morning, OL Andrus Peat says he's "not sure" if he'll take an official visit to Texas. First time I've ever seen him say that about UT. According the mods over there, they think it's more about him not making any solid plans yet rather than it being a reflection of how he feels about the Longhorns. No matter you how interpret that, this recruitment doesn't have a positive vibe about it at the moment. His Corona del Sol team did not make the playoffs so he'll be scheduling official visits around his basketball schedule from now on.
Floss, I'm very bearish on Texas' chances with Peat. It doesn't look right now, and I'm not sure how it will improve.
I hope the Texas coaches and staff lay out their academic plan for Hawkins. This is how you get into to UT, this is how you stay at UT, this is how you graduate from UT. It sounds like he needs reassurance. With our chances dimming on Peat, I believe Hawkins is in the conversation for the most important recruit left on Texas' board.
I assume we'll see some movement on Tre'von Armstead or Brantley, possibly if things don't pick up with Peat. I think T. Armstead is take every single year, but the problem is that he'll need a few years in the program before he can contribute. It's extremely difficult to find a LT ready to play immediately. Texas hit the Lotto with Josh Cochran. If Texas misses on Peat, Hawkins and Brantley, I'm concerned that Texas won't be able to sign a college ready OT in the 2012 class. I think we get one more OT, but he'll likely be a project.
I love Estelle and Hughes, but both are raw. I think it's possible that Estelle could play right away, but it's not ideal.
Floss is their a shred of hope with Brantley? He seems very solid to OK State. T. Armstead seems only sightly more open. Both will be difficult gets. I think we'll see a new name pop up on the radar soon.
I always felt Peat would be a tough pull due to Nebraska connection. Now it appears Stanford is gaining major steam as Texas and FSU seem to be falling out of favor. If we can get a visit and rack up some wins in next few weeks maybe my thoughts will change, but until then I am not holding any hope at this point. Sad to deal with reality as Peat is a rare guy that could get PT right away and is our biggest need for the class. Not to mention after missing out on Westerman last year...
Hawkins told ESPN last night he has been offered and he is 80% sure he will visit for Tech gain this weekend.
It's official today that QB Garrett Gilbert will be transferring to SMU.
Just wanted to follow up on WR Dorial Green-Beckham...I was looking at the Missouri high school playoff schedule and the semi-finals for Hillcrest's division is on the day of the K-State game (Nov. 19th) and the championship game falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving. If Hillcrest ends up going all the way, DGB could still visit Austin for banquet weekend in December assuming he doesn't have a scheduling conflict with basketball.
Good to know. Anxious to see who shows up for Tech game.
I try and leave the opportunity to be pleasantly surprised when it comes to recruiting and we all know how quickly things can change, but I won't be shocked if Peat doesn't make an official visit to Austin. It seems as if his interest is simply elsewhere at the moment.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of info on Brantley right now other than him recently saying he's "100%" to OSU. I think it says a lot about UT's interest that Searels used his bye week evaluation on Brantley and made a stop in Carthage. A UT offer could change his tune but it's a tough time to steal from OSU with the Pokes rolling right now. Armstead may be easier to sway as the bloom is quickly coming off of the Baylor rose.
Article and video from ESPN on the commitment of QB Jalen Overstreet:

Per Hook 'Em 24/7, OL Donald Hawkins spoke with Stacy Searels today to finalize his official visit plans and he will be in Austin on November 19th.
Daily Texan:
"Longhorns lose another WR: Redshirt freshman Chris Jones elects to transfer out of the program. Jones wants to be closer to family."
My thoughts: The coaches have probably known for a while and the secret recruit that we are going after is a WR, maybe Dominique Wheeler?
Do we really need a 3rd WR in that class though?
Next year we will have:
Shipley
Davis
Goodwin
Harris
Onyegbule
Jones
Johnson
Hales?
White will probably transfer
Nothing specific besides Mack saying he thinks everyone could play saturday.
like i said in the other thread, unnecessary hit on shipley and greg brown is a tool for disrespecting the team while shipley was being treated on the field.
i guess that upsetted me because i was sitting in the front row endzone when it happened.
Class of 2012 defensive end Torshiro Davis (Shreveport, La./Woodlawn) will take his official visit to Texas on Dec. 9, he told HornsNation on Tuesday.
talk about perfect timing, daniel tosh wearing giblet jersey on tosh.0 show released same day gilbert news comes out he's going to SMU. (tosh wears texas gear the whole show and takes some jabs at texas and aggy)

Jones won't be the last. I think we see a handful drop after the season is over. Lots of guys that are just hanging around right now. Let's look at some candidates by position:
QB, Case McCoy
RB, Jeremy Hills
RB, Traylon Shead
WR, DeSean Hales
WR, Darius White
TE, Trey Graham
OL, Mark Buchanan
OL, Kyle Kriegel
OL, Luke Poehlmann
DT, Taylor Bible
DT, De'Aires Cotton
CB, Eryon Barnett
CB, AJ White
K, Will Russ
I also wonder about TE Barrett Matthews and TE Dominique Jones as well. WR Bryant Jackson could be a candidate eventually if he doesn't get moved back to DB.
