Moss can't see Pats extending contract

Wide receiver Randy Moss said Saturday night that he believes 2010 will be his final season with the New England Patriots.
If they want to give me a new contract I would entertain that, but I don't really think that I'm going to be a New England Patriot next year. So, I'll play this year out and then look for whatever the future is next.
” -- Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss
"I don't think they are going to extend my contract here," said Moss, who is entering the final season of a three-year, $27 million contract he signed after the 2007 season. "I understand the beast, the nature of it. I think that just with what I think and what I know I don't think they're going to re-sign me back. So, after this season if there is not a lockout I'll be looking for a new team. I got a lot of respect for the Patriots and what they did for me and my family. So, the only thing I can do is just play this year out and see what my future holds after that. "
Moss' comments were made at former Patriot Heath Evans' charity softball event in Jupiter, Fla., and were reported by the Boston Globe and Boston Herald.
Moss, 33, stressed that he held no ill will toward the team, basing his prediction on the economics of football and of the Patriots' way of doing business.
"It's the business of it, man," Moss said. "You got to understand the business of football. There is not bad blood. There is no animosity on my side or their side. I think it's just the nature of the business of the NFL.

"You know the Patriots don't really pay, so when I got my second contract from them that was a blessing in disguise. I understand the business. I don't think they're going to re-sign me back. I'm not mad. I'm not bitter. It's just the way things are in this NFL, so like I said after this year I'll be looking for a new team. I think so."
Moss had a more optimistic outlook for quarterback Tom Brady, who, like Moss, is entering the final year of his contract in New England.
"I don't really know what's going on with his situation or his contract, but if you ask me personally I think that Tom Brady is going to be a New England Patriot," Moss said.
Moss had an up-and-down season in New England. He was sent home by the Patriots for showing up late for a team meeting during a snowstorm, had his effort questioned by an opponent, yet still finished with 83 catches for 1,234 yards and 13 touchdowns. Last month, a source told ESPNBoston.com Moss played much of the season with a separated shoulder.
"The last couple of years I've played through so much," Moss said Saturday. "You know I've never let the team down, as far as going out there every Sunday. I still showed at 32 years of age, now I'm 33, that I am durable. So, like I said if they want to give me a new contract I would entertain that, but I don't really think that I'm going to be a New England Patriot next year. So, I'll play this year out and then look for whatever the future is next."
ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss contributed to this report.

    WoW New England!!!!
Your team's second best player is saying he's already looking forward to the next off season because he wants more money. Sure, it's one thing to think it, but to come out to the media and SAY it?

He's just speaking the truth. Unless he goes off for another monster season, it won't make sense to overpay for a mid-30's receiver who makes all his plays based on speed and athleticism.

Randy is smart enough to know it's nothing personal, this is how Belichick does things, and he'll just move on and not be a little about it the way Seymour, Asante, Ty Law, etc all were.

Apparently there's some trade rumors about Moss to Dallas. It'll never happen unless Dallas is dumb enough to trade Miles Austin or Mike Jenkins or Anthony Spencer.

I bet the Cowboys sign him after next season tho.

I'd be happy to take Miles Austin or a guy like Jenkins or Spencer. I doubt the Cowboys want a guy who could turn into Owens part 2 though especially if it involves them giving up a young piece to do so.

I'd trade Roy Williams for Randy Moss straight up. Randy Moss might take a few plays off in the game, but at least he knows how to run a route and get seperation.

No way in Jurry trades any of those 3 for Randy Moss. Patriots would be lucky to get Tashard Choice for him. The Cowboys don't need a receiver either, so I don't see any reason why they would trade for him.

Yeah that's the whole point. There was a rumor on ESPN about a trade but there's no scenario where it would ever work. Cowboys would be stupid to trade any of their young stars, and the only way the Patriots let a player of tremendous value like Moss go is for someone like that.

and at Tashard Choice. I'm sure your team is so solid that the best they could offer for a top 5 receiver in the NFL is their 3rd string RB. They really showed how badass they are against the Vikings.

the arrogance of Cowboy Fan. One playoff win in 13 ing years, and suddenly their team is so badass that they would have a hard time giving up their 3rd string RB for Randy Moss

the overrating of Tashard Choice is funny as . He had a decent stretch in 2008 when Barber and Fragile Felix went down, and suddenly he's a stud.

And Tashard Choice wouldn't be the reason behind that.
