That is correct. Nets owner Mikhail Prokorov, and his compe ive nature, is simply trying to hoarde into the market belonging to the NY Knicks. I'm sure he's trying to carve out his own niche in the premiere basketball market in the United States. However, it doesn't mean a hill of beans because this franchise is terrible.
Consider this: Last year, in a desparate move for credibility, the Nets mortgaged part of their future (Derrick Favors and a 1st round pick) in exchange fior Deron Williams. If Williams resigns with the Nets this summer, it's a good move. If he leaves, the Nets look very foolish.
Consider this: The Nets have deluded themselves into believing they have a chance at Dwight Howard. In order to get him, they will need to mortgage part of their future again (Brook Lopez, draft picks, etc.). If they get Howard and Williams resigns, it's a good move. If they fail to land Howard, Williams certainly will leave and the Nets again look foolish.
If Williams stays and Howard signs, they will have almost nothying to put around the pair and no draft picks to solidify their future. Make no mistake, this team is destined for years of futility - no matter what city they're playing in.
