The obvious issue is that teams that are multi-national, like say, The Spurs, Lakers, & Mavs would not be able to bring their whole squad. FIBA Rules are such that once a player plays for 1 country's Senior National Team, he can't play for any other team in a FIBA World event. How can the Spurs be whole if Parker plays for France, Ginobili plays for Argentina, & Duncan refuses to play FIBA Ball. Tim's case is compelling. He started in FIBA as a collegian and later on, The US Virgin Islands became it's own team. Tim couldn't play for his Actual home team because he had already represented the US. What would the Lakers do without Gasol, the Mavs without Nowitzki, the Suns without Nash?
Unless...if FIBA makes a tournament of Pro Basketball Leagues, the way FIFA does for Soccer in Champions League.
Then the other issue is that of how much basketball is too much? Should 1 team go through their own playoffs and then have to represent in a 2nd long tourney, that exposes the organization to greater risk of overuse injuries. Ask David Robinson about his back after the 96 Olympics.
So no....that won't work OP.
