Like both players... But you've got this backward. For a reliever to win the Cy Young (or even be deserving), they have to completely dominate every outing. I don't think Hoffman did. He was his best, but honestly, there were relievers with better numbers but lesser names. Where were they on the ballot?

Webb, save for a handful of starts, was the best pitcher in the NL from start to finish and was so on a mediocre team from June onward, something which probably cost him a handfull of wins... He led the League in innings pitched and was second or third in just about every other major category, save for strikeouts, which isn't his forte (he led the League in groundball outs with his sinker). Can't remember where he ended up on total walks, but for a pitcher who led the League in innings pitched, he was right up there in fewest walks allowed. He probably was first in fewest walks per nine innings amongst starters.

I think either Webb or Carpenter were the most deserving. After that, probably Hoffman, Oswalt and Zambrano.

    Carpenter totally screwed.

Its ok, hes got a WS ring to polish, while they are getting getting fat on the beaches.

Boo-freakin'-hoo. Webb had better numbers than Carpenter did. I'm not sure how a guy who's numbers weren't as good as the winner's could conceivably been "totally screwed," other than the fact that he's a Cardinal who isn't being bowed to worshipfully.

We're going to get this throughout the awards season, I think, with the "got rings to polish" follow-up.

Joe Girardi was named the NL Manager of the Year today -- clearly, LaRussa got totally screwed. Hanley Ramirez was NL Rookie of the Year -- that award clearly should have gone to Adam Wainwright or Chris Duncan, though.

The 2006 Cardinals were clearly the most talented and dominant 83-win team in MLB history.
