What I find interesting is that people SAY they want the candidates to be more specific and point out the weaknesses of the other candidate; but then we hear that the independents are turned off by the angry tone, etc.
You can't have it both ways - maybe that's why they're independents - because they can't really take a stand and they just want everyone to play nicely together in the sandbox.
Me - I want them to take the gloves off and really go at it. I would love for McCain to look Obama in the eye and say "your own running mate said you weren't qualified to be President", so why should the american people think any differently?

CBS doesn't conduct the poll. They have a public resarch company that handles it such as gallup etc etc. The name of the company is right there in that picture.
The point is that whatever you feel about the news agency the conducting of these polls is done by 3rd parties who are not biased.
Good to know.
Hopefully Rasmussen and others come out with stuff later.
Im so cynical now a days I don't know who to believe.

Like Zogby?
Also, polls are conducted in a myriad of ways with all results given back to the customer (CBS) for them to present in any manner they want. That's why the internals are important.

I think TPark is worried that Dan Rather is personally calling the poll participants and trying to sway the results of the polls.

Their ability or inability to remark intelligently is not irrelevant. The fact that she could not even be relied upon to parrot the points McCain made in the previous 2 hours is VERY telling.
As is the fact that they edited out the previous 2 times she was asked that question.
Just like ABC chopped off the first part of her anwer to the foreign policy question to get the sound bit they wanted.
Don't tell me they do that Obama...
Why should she give interviews to corrupt new sources?
Why? It only costs them the stupid vote every time they do it.
She should do only Fox interviews until the media stop smearing her.
Sorry but they are biased and dishonest and deliberately trying to manipulate the perception of her.
It would be one thing if the American public was aware of it and saw through, but evidentally a great many of them are too ignorant to do.
IF they did that shit to Obama, I guarantee you he wouldn't be doing interviews with them either.

I'm pretty cynical myself, particularly when it comes to partisan politics, but I feel better about both candidates after this debate. I may be in the minority here, but I am content with either of them as President.
Now, where I begin to get angry again is when I watch the post-debate analysis shows on various networks parading party yes-men out for analysis on the debate, all shitting out the same talking points as evidence that their guy won. And I get damn near homicidal lately when I see Giuliani's smug lying face.

I know what you were saying. I was just joking. I actually find the Fox News polls (not the internet polls, but their real election polls) to be fairly accurate (and obviously, I don't care for Fox News). Very rarely is a Fox News poll an outlier.
I don't trust The Daily Kos/Research 2000 Poll (again, not an internet poll, an actual poll) because it was an outlier when they first started posting it. Now it is in line with other polls.

Two SUSA polls - one in CA and the other in Washington.
Actually I won't even bother posting the CA results, you can guess who won in taht one.
:lol
Of all debate watchers:
40% say McCain was the clear winner.
38% say Obama was the clear winner.
23% say there was no clear winner.
Those were the results for WA. Slight lead for McCain but it is a statistical tie since its within the MOE. Nonetheless, the best result so far for McCain.

There's going to be a lot of that in politics, T Park. There are Democrats who would criticize and mock the Republican VP no matter who he/she is just as there are Republicans who would defend a pile of dirty socks that was nominated on their ticket.
I think the assault on Palin's personal life early on rallied Republicans to support her. The incessant defense of Sarah Palin is absolutely unfathomable. You're asking us to accept her because she's not part of the Washington political entity? FINE. But let us SEE her first. Hell, I've seen the Tina Fey skit more often and for longer durations than I have seen Sarah Palin since she was nominated.
Are you really going to tell me to accept a person who I've never heard of a month ago as viable for the 2nd (or one of the) most powerful position(s) in the world? It's absolutely ridiculous. The election is right around the corner and I have only seen Sarah Palin in one major spot (the RNC) and one solitary interview she did on TV.

The question: Other than supporting stricter regulations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac two years ago, can you give us any more example of his leading the charge for more oversight?
Palin's first response: I think that the example that you just cited, with his warnings two years ago about Fannie and Freddie--that, that's paramount. That's more than a heck of a lot of other senators and representatives did for us.
Palin's second response: He's also known as the maverick though. Taking shots from his own party, and certainly taking shots from the other party. Trying to get people to understand what he's been talking about--the need to reform government.

Back on subject:
According to an analysis by Congressional Quarterly, McCain has voted for bills favored by President Bush 90 percent of the time. The nonpartisan publication, which has analyzed voting by members of Congress since 1953, said the report took into account all legislation that Bush had taken a clear position on. It spans from the beginning of Bush's term to Congress's recess in August.
In the 100-member Senate, 14 current members — all Republicans — voted with Bush more than 90 percent of the time, according to the report. Six others have a 90 percent rating like McCain's. The report shows Obama voting with Bush 40 percent of the time and his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, voting with Bush 52 percent of the time during the course of his presidency.
Obama surrogates also frequently say McCain voted with Bush 95 percent of the time. This is a reference to the Republican senator's record in 2007. That was the highest percentage in the seven years studied. In 1995, McCain voted with Bush 77 percent of the time — his lowest percentage in those years. "The president and I agree on most issues," McCain said in a May 22, 2003 interview on Fox's "Your World with Neil Cavuto." "There was a recent study that showed that I voted with the president over 90 percent of the time, higher than a lot of my even Republican colleagues."
Yep. He's a real maverick, alright.

People go through more rigorous checks on their stances on policies when they apply to work at Wendy's. And no, that's not hyperbole, sadly, though I wish it were.
STOP defending Sarah Palin. We aren't all out to rip her down. We're just fucking SCARED that someone we barely know might be our VP soon. I WANT TO KNOW WHO THIS WOMAN IS. If your daughter (or son) came home with the guy you met before they went on their first date last week and announced that she was marrying him, but that you couldn't see him until the wedding, wouldn't that piss you off just a little bit, too?
There's a saying in Wall Street: "Trust the Actions of the Insiders"
The fact that McCain's camp is hiding the living hell out of Palin, restricting her access to the media, trying to minimize interaction in the VP debates, and keeping her the hell away from interviews tells you all you need to know.
And it's not a good sign.
Palin is an utter joke. PRAY that McCain does not die if elected.

We all know the government is inefficient, but free markets left to their own devices have just as much potential for failure. Have you followed the economy at all in the last month? Shit you are dumb.
It's a balance that is needed. We need someone watching over corporate America that will keep them in check just as much as we need the government staying out of our lives.
You don't make over $250,000. There is no way someone as stupid as yourself makes anywhere near that money. Lying keyboard jockey.
I'm done discussing with you.
All your doing is insulting me with names and tripe.
Goodbye.

That must be a part of the Apocrypha.
:lmao
The bottom line is Jesus was a champion of the outcasts and the poor. Conservatives don't hold this section of our society in high regard at all.

I actually thought McCain scored better on Iraq than he should have given how Obama is on the popular side of the argument of whether we should have gone in the first place. When McCain called him out for being surprised about the success of the surge, Obama failed to address the point, instead going back to how the decision to invade was a bad one.
The thing is, the next President isn't going to be charged with deciding whether or not the War in Iraq was a good idea. He's going to have to find a way to finish the job.

What is wrong those answers that requires asking the question a third time?
That's the best answer she had...and it's more than Obama has done....unless you count being paid by them.
Why keep asking the question?
So let me get your position straight.
There is a huge media bias against Sarah Palin. This contributes to your rationale for why she hasn't made many (any) recent appearances before national TV.
Do you think this will change if she becomes VP? Because I really need to know if the potential Vice President of my country is going to dive out of sight for a few weeks every time that she perceives she's being slighted. What kind of image does that present as the 2nd most powerful person in this country?
Don't we, as the voters and as human beings, have certain unalienable Rights? Would you not say that contained in these Rights is a right to know who we are governed by? Because there could very well be a President Sarah Palin when all the smoke clears. I am beginning to lose my anger at the republican party for this situation. The anger I had is now slowly (but increasingly) being replaced by abject fear. I actually feel wronged in this situation, that I might have to accept a person I know very little about into an extremely high office.
I feel that we as the voters have a right to utilize the media for THIS VERY PURPOSE. That is to say that this is one of the innate reasons that such media exists. Biased or not, fallible, buzz-seeking, Apple-iPod generation... it doesn't matter. It's all we have! It's all we have right now, and I would like to think that at least a few people out in the American public would be smart enough to see through the slander if they are attempting to discredit Ms. Palin.
To think that if the coverage is so biased now will be lessened if she attains the office of VP is somewhat bizarre. She will likely be scrutinized more tightly than ever before, BECAUSE she isn't part of the Washington circle and BECAUSE she's attractive and BECAUSE yes, because she is a woman.
She's a woman and she likes McCain's policies a lot. That's about the extent of my Sarah Palin knowledge right now. And I think that is extremely unfair. Call me an Obama hack if you must, but please point to a place in this entire post where I have unjustly attacked Ms. Palin.
I am not a democrat or a republican. I am merely a (deeply) concerned citizen.

This fucking thread is turning into crap, which is a shame, because it was incredibly resreshing to have a debate with two intelligent candidates for once. Hell, it would have been refreshing with one intelligent candidate after the last two elections.

Biden is a complete and total idiot. A legitimate one...no editing necessary. In fact editing can't save him.And yet, there he is, closing in on 100 interviews since the convention while Palin has done....
3?
And her favorable rating isn't all that higher than Biden's while her unfavorable rating is.
Stop protecting her!
She's tough!

I'm not even arguing Obama isn't favored by the media. My perception has been that there's a pretty significant pro-Obama bias. That doesn't mean I think Palin's ineptitude is a media fabrication.
