holy shit!!!!! Victor Martinez just hit a 3-run HR in the top of the 9th, and the Indians take a 7-6 lead. I'm trying not to get my hopes up though because it wouldn't surprise me in the least for the Angels to come back and win. It would be typical with the way the last week has gone for them.

edit: Peralta! back-to-back! 8-6!

Just got off the phone with a Rangers Exec and he told me they are actively looking for a Starting Pitcher, but that Roy Halladay doesn't seem likely. Cliff Lee has been rumored too, but that the Indians want to much.

He told me they'll look at a mid-level starter, some one who can help out at the back of the rotation that won't cost a lot.

As far as hitters, he told me he doesn't see any moves there. The Rangers feel confident in their hitters.

He also pointed out that the Hicks money problem won't restrict them from making a move if they need to. The next couple of days will dictate that.

Hopefully Kins is OK.

This team is hardcore beatup.

Tommorow I don't expect a win with Verlander on the hill, but still winning the series against a damn good Tiger team is good stuff.

Just have to win the games. The schedule will be tough but just gotta keep playing balls out.

OK Rangerholics, just got off the phone with an Rangers Exec. and they are in discussions with the Blue Jays about Halladay, but consider them a wild card. Halladay may not accept a trade to Texas.

Another pitcher as I mentioned yesterday, mid-level starter on their radar is Jarrod Washburn. He told me though that after seeing what the Mariners did today via trades that he feels, the Mariners still think they're in it.

I still don't think the Rangers make the BIG deal. If they do it'll be last minute/mid-night hour kind of deal.

The Rangers don't need guys like Halladay IMO. They just need guys like Doug Davis and others that will give you 6 innings and give up 3 to 4 runs.

They also need a BAT. I know its hard to believe the Rangers need a bat but IMO, they need a bat due to Hamilton's HORRIBLE slump right now.

A guy like Scott Rolen, Josh Willingham, or Adam Dunn would be VERY welcome.

Dunn would be perfect for the DH role.

Rangers aren't making any deals, Jon Daniels and Nolan Ryan have all but said that. Tom Hicks is in the crapper financially and adding millions of dollars to the payroll is definitely not on his "to do" list. As of right now the Rangers might have the most dire financial crisis of any MLB team. They will not do anything that will cost them money.

The Rangers are gonna stand pat until Hicks sells the team (hopefully to an owner with a clue) and then maybe next year they can be buyers in the trade market.

so let's see...a trophy being proud of my teams for their championships is arrogant? Get a life..lol..what a loser. So, you've never worn a Lakers shirt after they won the championship? You have no Lakers memorabilia at all? Because that would be just as arrogant. I'm proud of what my teams have accomplished. If you're not, that's fine, but don't talk shit about me because I am.

Not necessarily true. Although Hick does have some financial issues, especially with his English soccer club, Daniels has said, not only to me, but others, that they are in the hunt and that adding payroll to this club want effect the bottom line.

As I stated above, the Rangers are the sleeper right now for Halladay. They have the prospects, but again, Halladay had a no-trade clause and may not accept the deal.

Roy Halladay is a pipe dream anyways. If the Rangers were serious about making a run, they'd get another bat in the lineup. They'd be going for Nick Johnson or Adam Dunn. But they're not, because they have no money to do so. The Rangers won't be making any deals that add payroll, bottom line.

Even in a successful year, Tom Hicks finds a way to fuck it all up. I can't wait for that asshole to sell the team.

EricB
07-30-2009, 04:31 PM
I think going after guys like Doug Davis, and others that are solid starters is whats needed. Not guys like Halladay.

Now making a trade for a Willingham, or Dunn (you could hide Dunn at DH or first base)

The talk of trading for Troy Glaus is absolutely the wrong move, as a Cardinals fan we knew he was done for the year back in January when the a-hole finally decided to have surgery.

He cant throw the ball across to first from third, his hitting his mediocre and now he's having back trouble.

A guy like Freddy Sanchez would've been perfect to put at third and then move Younger to first.

That being said, I doubt they make a move due to their money problems and while it sucks, totally understandable.

I ask him, for you DICKFACE, if the Tom Hicks situation would stand in the way, and he told me that Major League Baseball is backing them, so that they could make the trade. MONEY IS NOT A PROBLEM, is what he told me.

So, that being said, the Rangers are right there in the wild card hunt and adding a guy like Halladay will help his chances as the Red Sox and Yankees beat up on themselves.

OK -- So I wanted to follow up on the whole Doug Davis thing. I spoke to a person within the Diamondbacks front office -- no not the cleaning lady or the bat boy -- and he told me that it was unlikely that they'd trade Doug Davis. The only way they'd make that move was if someone would blow them away. Now, he did confirm to me that the Rangers DID contact them with interest but that talks have not gone any further than that.

OK Latest for the Rangers : There have been serious talks between the Rangers and the Blue Jays. I also found out the Halladay would NOT veto a trade to the Rangers. This is of course good news for the Rangers. I was also told that Justin Smoak could be available in a potential deal. I know many Rangers fans may not like that news, but he is one of the names that is floating around.

In the end, getting Halladay is something that I would smile about...BUT I wouldn't do it because of the future we'd be selling. I'm not saying that I'd hate to get Halladay, I just really want us to stick to the plan that is working for us. Build the youngins and be really good for the next few years. I don't want to risk getting better for this year only for that to hurt what we can do down the road.

Good Morning Ranger lovers,

Since I'll be in the air flying home from Baltimore for most of the deadline news this is the latest from speaking to people within the Rangers front office.

The are still talking with the Blue Jays about Halladay. The Blue Jays are asking for Holland, Justin Smoak (as I mentioned yesterday) and two other prospects. I was told that Tom Hicks would sign off on the deal, since everything right now really has to go threw him.

As far as a bat. I was told they were VERY happy with their situation with the sticks and if any move is made it would probably a guy off the bench who could be like a Matt Stairs type for them. He wouldn't give me any name but said there were 2-guys that they were looking at.

Smoak, Holland, & Feliz should be close to untouchable in any trade.

If they trade one of those guys, I'd be okay with it. But not two. Anyways, Roy Halladay hasn't had a good track record pitching at The Temple, I wouldn't be shocked if he looks decidedly ordinary on the Rangers.

But either way, it isn't happening. No trade will be happening. Tom Hicks doesn't have the money to increase payroll by that significant an amount.

Eh, they have to slow down sometime, if not we'll just take the wild card.

I can only imagine how the 2001 A's felt

They won 102 games, which will give you the best record in baseball any other year, but they still finished 14 games behind Seattle who won a record 116 :lol

The A's easily took the wild card because they won way more than anybody else did

Closing Time: 101 reasons to enjoy Neftali Feliz (http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog/roto_arcade/post/Closing-Time-101-reasons-to-enjoy-Neftali-Feliz?urn=fantasy,180500)

By Andy Behrens

As major league debuts go, a reliever can't deliver a line much better than this: two innings, no hits, no walks, four Ks. Those were Neftali Feliz's (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8405/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8405/news) numbers from Monday night.
There are plenty of logical reasons to discount the 21-year-old's performance, of course. It was just two innings against the A's, one of the American League's least productive lineups. And one of the Ks was Jack Cust (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6626/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6626/news). Everyone strikes him out.
Still, there's no such thing as an unimpressive 101 miles an hour. That was the radar reading for Feliz's final pitch (http://texas.rangers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090804&content_id=6233246&vkey=news_tex&fext=.jsp&c_id=tex): 101. He hit triple-digits more than once, actually, and touched 99 eight other times (http://startelegramsports.typepad.com/foul_territory/2009/08/feliz-wows-them.html). Feliz faced the top of the Oakland batting order in the sixth inning and struck out the side (all swinging). He then punched out Cust, coaxed a groundball from Ryan Sweeney (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7858/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7858/news) and a foul pop from Tommy Everidge (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8539/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8539/news). Two innings into his big league career, Feliz remains perfect. He entered the season as the top prospect in Texas' system (http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/organization-top-10-prospects/2009/267282.html) according to Baseball America, so the success isn't a complete surprise.
Feliz will be a starter long-term, and presumably a good one. But over the final two months of the 2009 season, he'll be a member of the Rangers' bullpen. If he brings tonight's stuff to the ballpark every day, he'll be simply unfair.
He should have been a sideshow in a game that featured a walkoff triple from Rajai Davis (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7835/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7835/news), eight strikeouts from Brett Anderson (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8409/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8409/news), five innings of one-hit ball from Dustin Nippert (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7653/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7653/news) and a rare blown save from CJ Wilson (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7571/)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7571/news). But in the fantasy community -- or at least among dynasty owners -- Feliz was the story. Everything else was distraction.

86 wins or more and I'm happy. The playoffs were a pipe dream anyways.

What sucks is that if Josh & Ian didn't have their heads up their asses for most of the season, the Rangers would be ahead of the Angels right now.

Figures it would work out this way. The pitching has been great all year, and our big hitters all suck. Only the Rangers would find a way to be one of the best hitting teams in baseball for years and then stop hitting as soon as the pitching starts getting good.

Padilla disappointed by Rangers' move
Fiery right-hander defends character, vows to pitch again

By T.R. Sullivan / MLB.com

08/07/09 11:03 PM ET
ANAHEIM -- Pitcher Vicente Padilla expressed disappointment at being designated for assignment by the Rangers and being labeled as a bad teammate.

He also made it clear he expects to be pitching with another team before this season is over.

"This is part of the business of baseball," Padilla said by phone Friday. "I am going to keep working hard to pitch. I can still pitch."

The Rangers designated Padilla for assignment before Friday's game with the Angels. General manager Jon Daniels suggested that it was the culmination of a series of events and that Padilla was just not a good teammate.

Two incidents involving Padilla throwing at opposing hitters and causing retaliation against his own teammates were a part of it. Padilla also had a reputation for being late or missing advanced scouting meetings and other important functions. But there was also the perception that he just didn't care about either the team or his teammates.

Padilla strongly disputed that.

"If they say that, they are saying something I am not," Padilla said. "Why don't players say it to my face if I'm a bad teammate. We'll talk about it."

Padilla was 8-6 with a 4.92 ERA in 18 starts for the Rangers. He was on the disabled list at the end of May with a sore right shoulder and also missed starts in July because of that problem and a nasty case of swine flu. He has made two starts since missing two weeks because of the flu.

He was 1-1 with a 6.94 ERA in those two starts, beating the Mariners on July 31 and losing to the Athletics on Wednesday, 7-5.

Padilla was told of the decision in a brief meeting with Daniels and manager Ron Washington before Friday's game. Daniels informed Padilla of his status. Padilla simply said OK and left the meeting. The Rangers later had strength and conditioning coach Jose Vazquez explain the situation to Padilla to make sure he understood.

"I'm never surprised with this team," Padilla said. "I was sick and I did all I could to come back. I pitched sick. The second time I pitched after being sick this happens. I tried to come back."

The loss to the Athletics was the final act in the Padilla saga as he gave up six runs in 5 1/3 lackluster innings. Padilla gave up a two-run home run to Scott Hairston in the first inning and then, two batters later, hit Kurt Suzuki with a pitch.

The Athletics thought it was intentional. Two innings later Michael Young was hit by a pitch by Athletics pitcher Chad Reineke. Padilla said he didn't believe the Athletics were throwing intentionally at Young.

"If it was intentional why would they hit him with a 84-mph slider," Padilla said. "They wouldn't hit him with a slider. If you want to hit a guy, you don't hit with a slider."

Padilla also disputed a claim that he was seen on television laughing on the bench when Young got hit.

"I was laughing at Michael?" Padilla said. "That's crazy. I was in the clubhouse."

Padilla has still hit 49 batters since the start of the 2006 season, tied for the most in the Major Leagues. Padilla hit Mark Teixeira twice in a game against the Yankees on June 2. The Rangers responded by putting him on outright waivers, but nobody claimed him.

"They know I throw inside," Padilla said. "If I throw inside they have to move. It's natural. It doesn't matter who it is. You have to throw second or third hitters inside if it's Sammy Sosa or Barry Bonds."

Padilla is 5-3 with a 4.28 ERA in nine starts since the game against the Yankees. The Rangers have 10 days to either trade him or release him. He still has to clear waivers before he can be traded to another team. Any team that claims him must pay the rest of his $12 million salary. The Rangers don't expect Padilla to be claimed.

If he is not traded, the Rangers will release him. His time in Texas is over.

"I had a good time," Padilla said. "The fans treated me well. I don't know what has happened this year. I never had a problem with them. I had three years with the organization. I'm going to keep training. I can pitch if I get the opportunity. They want to wash their hands of me? That's fine."

Rangers have come to play all season against the two teams we are battling for a playoff spot. 9-3 and four series wins against the Angels; 7-2 and three series wins against the Red Sox. That is a VERY impressive 16-5 and 7-for-7 in series wins combined. Now if we could only be more consistent with the other teams, I feel good about our chances to make the playoffs.

Now, this is nothing against you, b/c you seem like a good person, but I just have to say this to the Sox fans that were in attendance this weekend....get the fuck out of our ballpark!!!

Yeah...the crowd has gotten better this year than in the past, but we need to get up to Boston's crowd..or NY's crowd. I know that probably won't happen, but I'm thinking positive. We've got to get behind these guys if they're going to do something.

The Sox better get their act together. The Rangers have played very well as of late. The Sox on the other hand were lucky they werent swept this weekend. The tiebreaker is an advantage that will be huge for the Rangers down the stretch if this race stays close. Fuck we still have to play the Yanks 7 more times. It is going to be a crazy 6 weeks but if Boston cant get their act together this upcoming week, they are done.

The only tiebreaker the Rangers have won over Boston is that should the Rangers and Red Sox finish tied for the Wild Card, the one game playoff would be played at Texas.

Rangers cut ties with Padilla

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=tex) are cutting their ties with pitcher Vicente Padilla (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=4096).
The Rangers put the right-hander on unconditional waivers Monday for the purpose of releasing him. The Rangers say he's expected to clear waivers and become a free agent on Wednesday.
The Rangers designated Padilla for assignment on Aug. 7, beginning a 10-day period in which the club could trade or release him, or assign him outright to the minor leagues.
Padilla was 8-6 with a 4.92 ERA in 18 starts for Texas this season. Originally acquired in December 2005 in a trade with Philadelphia, Padilla was 43-34 with a 4.90 ERA over the last four seasons with the Rangers.

Gladly. ;)

Nippert, Hunter, Feldman, and Holland are all in the starting rotation that weren't when the season started. They took over for McCarthy, Padilla, Benson, and Harrison. Harrison is out for the season, McCarthy is on the DL, Benson sucked and was demoted, and Padilla was kicked to the curb.

Nippert was acquired on March 28, 2008 in a trade with Arizona for Jose Marte. Hunter was taken by Texas in the supplemental draft in 2007. Feldman was taken in the 30th round in the 2003 draft by the Rangers. He started the season in the bullpen, sucked, moved to the starting rotation, and started kicking ass. Holland was drafted by Texas in the 25th round in 2006. He was called up on April 18, made his major league debut from the bullpen on April 22, made his first start on May 22, and has since settled into the rotation, occasionally making a few relief appearances as well.

Does that answer your question? Do I pass? :hat

I still remember that complete game by him in Houston on Labor Day weekend.

He looked AWESOME.

That being said, honestly, who does he supplant in the rotation RIGHT NOW?

Nippert is pitching well
Hunter is unreal good right now
Holland has done nothing lately to get tossed out.
Millwood the ace
Feldman is a stud.

An amazing Rangers problem.

Too many good starting pitchers.

IMO Nippert would be the oddman out. A good long man in the bullpen is an awesome luxury.
