and to think we looked like world beaters after game one. Long season Spurs fans. Its a long season. Calm the fuck down.
Its like people expected a team with that much overhaul and that many key players out of shape are supposed to come out looking like the 85 Celtics.
See above. I don't think the game one beat-down of NO helped the fandom... the team looked like it was january, not October. Now they look firmly in October form.
I think this team suffers from one of the same problems we had last year - we have players for all situations, but those same players only function well in limited situations ie. our players are too one-dimensional. Eg if we could combine Theo with Dice or Blair we'd have exactly what we need from our other big, or if we could combine Bogans with RJ or Mase that would make a much more suitable starting SF.
Unfortunately, in the real world, you can't just mash two players together to make up for each other's shortcomings! :lol

Time to trade Bonner, Finley and Mahinmi for Jax.
I could live with smallball with Jax at the 4.
I'm with you. I was actually thinking the same thing. At least Jax has a pair. Several guys on this team look timid and afraid.

Plus, for the kind of offensive production we're getting out of Finley, might aswell play somebody that can stay with people...
He's pretty much pestering Roy *before* he gets into position. The problem with RJ, is that he gives Roy enough space to get the pass..

I wish Malik was activated tonight. I can guarantee you he'd be hustling his ass off on defense and on the boards. Too bad we have shitty Mason in there. When he isn't hitting his shot he isn't worth shit.
That's one added dimension Malik has. He will help pull down rebounds.
These are the kind of games that make me want to go out and play basketball.
Surely I could drain a hoop better than these guys...

Wish in one hand shit in the other see which fills up faster.
The Spurs have zero interest in him and the peeps (not you) need to come to grips with reality on that.
Call me crazy but I've seen some good things. I like what Bogans brings on D, his offense? Other than the layup that got blocked, did they even PASS him the ball? I just think everyone as per freaking usual needs to take a step back and chill and understand teams that are overhauled and out of shape as much as the Spurs are and were are not gonna be clicking on all 8 cylinders out of the gate.
Bitch like this if its March.
You can't make a trade in March. I'd rather not wait until then. Come on man, please take the homer glasses off for a little bit.
I do agree with what you are saying in that we're all jumping the gun a little, but waiting until March is a bit much.

As painful as this is, we knew that it would take time for this team to gel. Even then, we knew it would be a long shot for this team to win it all. There was absolutely no room for error and there are a lot of questions to be answered.
The fact they are losing in embarrassing fashion does not change the fact that we knew it would probably be a rocky start. Still have to give it time in order to get a clearer picture.

So I guess the theory that Pop was saving Ratliff for this game is wrong..
I don't think seeing Theo Ratliff on Rudy Fernandez or his like would be a good idea.
If Hairston had been activated small ball would've been perfect for the lineups they were throwing out there against the Spurs.
McDyess looks just putrid BUT someone I think TIMVP or someone else mentioned he has a history of starting out slow so I'm gonna give the Tide guy a break.
Blair, damn, dude is a beast on the boards but, he's sp putrid on defense its killing Pop to have him out there. Pop put him in VERY early tonight and he was just so bad defensively he had to take him out. I pray he advances on D a LITTLE more, cause if he doesn't he's not gonna get minutes.

I’m not against small ball, but Pop...could you stop playing Fin? could you stop making Mase a PG? we lost about 6 or 8 points on that two decisions.
Both those experiements were colossal failures last year. The idea was to get better and more improved over the summer. Even when Pop gets desparate enough to change his lineup, he keeps reverting back to failed combinations and then seems surprised by the results.

This team will be fine, it's just disturbing to see them gel so well in the first game, then regress to pre-season form. As long as we've seen decent improvement by mid-January I won't worry. We need to be at 85% by the ASB, then take it from there, just like 03-05-07. :tu

I really want to see Timmy and Blair playing in the same lineup. Or at least Timmy and Theo.
Or Tim and mcDyess.
But please not more Duncan and four guards-small forwards around him (and that's include Bonner).Duncan is not in his prime and he can't do all.
And it will be nice if TD is not who has to guard Oden or Aldridge every play.Maybe then he could be fresh to score.

Typical past Spurs team. Look fantastic one night hey things are great then a few games later your thinking good god WTF.
I think Finley hitting the bench, playing very little minutes should make the anti Finley faction happy cause the Finley loving Pop of old would've started him again tonight.

I’m not against small ball, but Pop...could you stop playing Fin? could you stop making Mase a PG? we lost about 6 or 8 points on that two decisions.
He doesn't have a choice with Mason at the backup point now with Tony out.
The supposed 'depth' of our team doesn't help Tim make it through the season with less wear if he's our only big on the floor all game long. What the heck is wrong with Pop?
One 'upside' to Tony being out is Hairston or Ian will have to suit up. Right? Right?

I've actually been slightly encouraged with the way the defensive penulum seems to be going. The effort hasn't necessarily been lacking and the Bogans-Hill backcourt has shown some signs.
Pop just needs to stick with the best defensive personnel he can muster and let them gain some cohesiveness.
It's a step in the right direction, but they're going to have to take some lumps to get where they need to.
Stick with a defensive rotation, Pop..

You know what we don't have right now - a guy who will take over a Q or a half and drop 20. The Big 3 used to do stuff like that, but they don't seem to do it much any more.

saved the game on dvr but too depressing too watch lately.
Utah won't even make the playoffs. After that piss poor effort against the Jazz letting them score at will, I would have thought that they would come out motivated.
After the Jazz game, I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch. I thought that I would just dvr record it and then see if it turned out to be worth watching.
What has been going on in a nutshell ?
