This clasico is meaningless....the important one is the Copa del Rey final and the CL games...... if Llourinho is as smart as people think he is.... he'd hide his strategy and tank this game to destroy Barca the very next match.... the CL is a different animal, at two games, and he knows how to play those matches.
Real has 4 chances to beat Barca.

Yeah, it's going to be very difficult for either team to win all 4 ties. Real should come firing for the cup ties, it's their best chance at silverware this year.

SAtown
04-16-2011, 11:39 AM
The game itself is technically meaningless but I don't think it would be wise for Real to just sit back and let Barca dribble around for a couple of hours. Imagine going into the CL semis against a team that had destroyed you twice before, including once at home. The pressure would be insurmountable.
Real would be able to gain a lot by a win today, not saying it's even possible tho. Should be good regardless.
Between this and the playoffs starting today, i must say that it's a damn good sports day

this. I live in barcelona and I support barça, and it was a joke seeing how a team that have won everything and was the most succesful team in the 20th century are cheering for a 1-1 draw that kills every hope for them to win the league title. Very sad
And a lot of people here is tired of The Special One, he's always complaining about the referees. Man, try to play clean and you'll finish the game with no red cards. It's shameful how Pepe doesn't get the red card in almost every match he plays

I don't know what to think of that match. I was amazing at how well Real was able to control possession after the La Liga draw... I think Barca had 70% in that one? Moving Pepe into the midfield was a good move.

RMA has this, if they can get away with the physical play...
instead of having hiquin or wtf upfront, chuck ronaldo up there with the creative midfield for that final forward spot....and play on the counter with their fast pace
rma can use the spare 2 midfields with 2 defensive midfields...and they are set
what fckd them up in the first and 2nd encounter was probably to many midfielders that needed the ball to be effective, guys like ozil, ronaldo, di maria...
ps. they need to get rid of that clown ramos this summer

You have to score more than them to beat them (duh!)

True, but it can be done more easily than you say if you defend like hell and then really push the ball forward quickly on the counter...exactly what happened in the copa del rey. The 1st half was pretty even but in the 2nd, Barca was dominating the ball and attacking essentially the entire time. The ball was almost always in Real Madrid's half. The goal they scored was not the only chance Madrid created off of a Barca mistake, they had plenty of counter opportunities with Di Maria and Ronaldo racing down the field. Although Barca got a decent amount of shots off, not too many were very good looks. That strategy clearly worked, and Madrid has good defenders and just about the best keeper in the world. In the first leg of the Arsenal match up in the CL, they scored their goals on the counter as well. If you have fast players with good ball control, you can catch Barca off guard on the counter...and it surely doesn't help that Puyol and Abidal are out :bang

That's almost impossible, they aren't shipping Ronaldo, even for an absurd amount.
And since you've undoubtedly watched way more Madrid games I'm not in the position to say your last statement is false, but he seems to be making them more competitive, unless that is all Mourinho. Without Ronaldo Madrid would have 0 trophies this year, he was one of the players that posed a big threat in the Cope del Rey when Madrid played defense ball in fear of Barca.

Not really sure what Barca players have to be butthurt about...they've been dominating the stage. The opinion that this current Man U team being better than the team of two years ago for the UEFA final in Rome isn't outrageous, in fact many people believe that, Sir Alex Ferguson included.
So, I'm not sure what you're talking about. It's not like they went on a mission to all bring up the subject, it was something brought to them by reporters. Furthermore, the quotes aren't even exactly disrespectful, most people would agree with them.

Real Madrid president Florentino to sell Higuain for €15M

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is ready to sell striker Gonzalo Higuain.
El Mundo Deportivo says Perez is putting Higuain up for sale at €15 million to clear the way for the arrival of Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid.
It's been suggested his decision will anger coach Jose Mourinho, who rates Higuain as the club's No1 striker.
But Florentino has never liked Higuain and has been trying to find a buyer for him since taking over from Ramon Calderon. http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll349/Todosobrecamisetas/ESTRENOS%20CLUBs%202010/RM2011INTRO.jpg

Of course he'll fit in nicely, it's just a little unnecessary given they aren't desperate for midfielders with Thiago being ready to get more playing time, Cesc's price, and the current financial situation of the club.

There's no reason why it can't wait another year, but if they do get Cesc this summer they better not spend shit for a while and just ride it out with the players they have, they have a solid group and once Xavi is done Cesc steps right in.

39 million Euros for Cesc is a coup, Arsenal should pull the trigger. They're honestly no better than 3rd place with or without him.

barca doesnt even need cesc, all they need to do is get someone who has been a regular on the spain national team, could fit into the barca system since its the same system....
arsenal should just sell him if thye can get anything above 35m for him, then waste it on buyin young players again lol wenger

Whats wrong with ridiculous spending? It's not like it's your money... Anyway, betting and fixed matches are far worse than all of the above.

Making Thiago and Cesc co-exist is a problem that Pep would like to have. I'm sure he has something up his sleeve. He wants this deal so fucking bad. Also they need more people to cover for Messi, Xavi and Iniesta.

Why would they do that? They have in their squad arguably the two best defensive mids in the game in Busquets and Mascherano, and they are both relatively young, they're set in that position for years to come.

:lol I wasn't referring to the fact that the money they spend affects me, I'm talking about competition. I much as I love the game, the 2011-12 season is going to be a more or less a replay of the past season. Parity in soccer is worse than any sport I can think of.
Fixed matches in of itself might be worse, but it's definitely not a epidemic in the biggest leagues like the two I mentioned above is.

I think parity is just fine (except maybe in spanish league). Even Barca couldn't repeat in Champions League.

Premier League really isn't much better. Since it formed in 1992 (19 seasons), only 4 teams have won: Man Utd (12 times), Chelsea (3 times), Arsenal (3 times) and Blackburn (1 time).
Man City might be in the mix this year, and that's only the result of a billionaire owner takeover.

I was thinking about this/recent years. And Chelsea was not in the mix until some ridiculous spending, so you see - more crazy billionaires = more parity. All is good.

Football is the least reliable sport to predict a winner. The thing is right now we have a once in a lifetime team competing, arguably the best in history (it really is the best in history), that's why you may think there's no parity.
But still they get beaten every once in a while, if this was any other sport, Barca would be looking (at the very least) to a four peat in the Champions league next season.
You want to look for parity in football just look at the last edition of the Copa America.

Doesn't seem likely there are 15 billionaires in waiting to take over West Ham, Stoke and Bolton.

I wasn't talking about Barca in particular (see EPL post). Anyways, Barca as you say being the best team of all-time still has the need to spend 65 million Euros on 2 players. Half of these big clubs are in debt. We know next year La Liga is between Barca and Real, just like the EPL between 3-4 teams.
I'm not sure why CL would be an indicator of parity across league. Teams in CL represent like <10% of the teams in Europe and usually the same teams return each year. Parity amongst the best teams, sure I guess. But not parity overall.
:lol Copa America. I guess I should've been specific I was talking about the biggest club leagues in the world.

but 90s chelsea did have strong teams man, hence during the 90s EPL had plenty of competitive teams, too bad for the ones that went broke quick due to admin management...aka leeds utd, you can add newcastle also...

I don't care they are in debt it's not my debt. And if the club goes under, so what? It's not my club. There have been plenty of good teams in the past that we hear nothing about anymore, because they went broke and were dropped into lower leagues, and are now working their way back to top slowly through the lower leagues (leeds, fiorentina...).
I think parity is just fine in football, you have a few teams fighting for championship, a couple of good teams that are not quite there with an outside shot, a bunch of solid teams with no chance of winning, and a few crappy teams fighting to avoid relegation. It's like that in any league in any sport. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_distribution).

Real Madrid signs 7-year-old Leo

Associated Press
MADRID -- Real Madrid has signed a 7-year-old soccer prodigy from Argentina who goes by the name Leo -- just like Lionel Messi.
Leonel Angel Coira signed with the Spanish club and will begin training Sept. 6, Madrid spokesman Juan Tapiador told The Associated Press on Monday.
Coira told the Argentine sports daily Ole last week that his idol is Messi, the Barcelona forward who is also Argentine and goes by the name Leo. Coira said he prefers to pass rather than score. He already has a Facebook page featuring photos of his visit to Real Madrid.
Madrid reportedly made the push to sign Coira because Spanish league rival Atletico Madrid was also pursuing the youngster.
Barcelona signed Messi from the Argentine club Newell's Old Boys as a teenager and he has gone on to win the World Player of the Year award two times. He also has helped Barcelona win 15 trophies, including three Champions League titles and five Spanish league championships.
