Real fans have to be impressed by Real even though they didn't win. They snuffed out Barca's attack. Villa's goal was world class. That really couldn't be stopped. Messi's goal was unlucky for Real. It was a clearing mixup...and that's all Messi needs...an inch of space.

There were some questionable calls. Valdes clearly tripped Ronaldo and it should have been a penalty. That could've put up Real 3-2.

Benzema is still garbage IMO.. Higuain can at least finish clear chances. Coentrao is a great pickup. Real had many stretches of the game where they had the lion share of possession. It's a good sign even though Xavi/Pedro didn't start.

Fuck Barcelona. In Mourinho I trust.

La Liga better not fuck up and some how get delayed

TBH RM isn't the club it used to be... not even playing better can get them a win against Barca..... and all those dirty fucks should stop with all that dirty play.. in fact when they focused on playing fubol, they played better, when they started the cheap act they lost their game..... Marcelo is in Pepe mode fouling people even without the ball. What about no yellows for Pepe and this Marcelo idiot?????????????? WTF???

FWIW, I'm no Barça fan, more of a Mourinho hater. I remember the times when Real was a classy team, with great players and a gentleman for a coach (ie: Del Bosque).

Mourinho has turned great players into a bunch of whiners and dirty butthurt bitches. There's not one call against them that they're not rounding the ref and crying like somebody stole their candy. Mourinho himself is the epitome of bitchmade. He never loses a game, it's always the refs, the media, or a combination of both. The rival team cannot ever play better, nor can he ever make a mistake.

So it's always nice to look at a team that rarely, if ever, makes excuses walk in and beat them up. I really like Higuain, and I think Casillas is a top goalie and good guy, but tbh, it's not enough to offset the collection of bitchmade there.

Whats the point of getting Cesc really? After watching the game yesterday they needed more help in the back - not on their bench.

That's an interesting point. I think Barca is right in wanting to add more depth to their midfield. Xavi (who is not getting younger) and Iniesta (who is a bit injury-prone) have been playing their asses of in recent years, so I guess there will be more rotation in midfield. Also, Busquets and Mascherano probably will play at the back four much more often now, thereby freeing up at least one spot in the midfield.
Cesc might not play in every game or be part of the starting eleven all the time, but I doubt that he will just be sitting on the bench much - he is too good for that (even at a club like Barca) and, maybe even more importantly, he was too expensive for that.
Still, one could argue that a guy like Thiago would have been perfectly fine as a depth adding player. I guess there is quite some prestige of getting Cesc back to his old club involved as well.

MannyIsGod
08-15-2011, 09:51 AM
Oh I think he'll play. He'll play in the Copa Del Rey matches where they rest everyone they actually care about. With 3 competitions its not like there's not enough games to go around. I just think its redundant move based more on - as you said - prestige than an actual need.

Whats the point of getting Cesc really? After watching the game yesterday they needed more help in the back - not on their bench.

It's so stupid, paying such a high price for an unnecessary player. They should have targeted another strong central defender, or no one and simply save towards that debt. It's just seems like Barca was really stubborn in this Cesc pursuit, wanted him more to win the Cesc war between Arsenal.

CROFL after evaluating their financial position and saying they'd look to only spend 40-45 million euros or pounds on summer signings (w/e it was) and they go out and sign Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas in the same summer :lol.

Cesc has a somewhat winning pedigree but he has never won a league title.

Jesus I completely forgot about Afellay...I'm sure he wants out already now that they signed Sanchez and still have Pedro. CROFL having so many bench players other teams in the league would kill for to have as starters, La Liga is retarded.

+1 ...... they needed a player like him but IMHO, not at that price.... I'd use that money to get a "cheap" good player to cover that position and two good defenders.

ElNono
08-15-2011, 11:41 AM
Cesc gives Guardiola a backup to key guys: Xavi/Iniesta/Busquets. All key guys in Barça midfield for which he has no true quality reserves. It's the same reason they acquired Alexis Sanches, to have a quality reserve for Villa or Pedro.

They'll be playing 6 different competitions this season. That's a lot of games for a team that didn't even have pre-season training, and went on tour instead.

Not saying that Porto was a small team when they won the Champions' League in 2004, but it was still a great achievement

I don't think a lot of coaches would have won a CL with that roster (again, not a bad roster, but not hall of famesque either)

I would like to see Guardiola winning the CL with that lineup

And if you want a severely overrated coach, look no further than Arsene Wenger

I would like to see Guardiola winning the CL with that lineup

And if you want a severely overrated coach, look no further than Arsene Wenger

They had an easy run that year, and Porto is number 1 or 2 in Portugal. The only seemingly complicated team was Manchester United in the first knockout stage. After that: Lyon, La Coruña and AS Monaco.

I don't disagree about Wenger, BTW. But at least he started from the bottom.

Not likely given they don't really play the same position.

Cesc has a somewhat winning pedigree but he has never won a league title.

Yeah, but is that really his fault? Even Messi wouldn't have won a title with the defenders running around the pitch for Arsenal the last couple of years.

I don't think that Cesc will primarily be a back-up. Even with the prestige thing in mind, I don't think Barca is that stupid.

Which is my point. They don't have a competitive league all year round. A bit of over the top talent, and you're set there. It's either Sporting or Porto.

tbqh, I don't even remember who played for them. I do remember that was around the start of the decline of French football coming out of the '98 WC, but their best players (Zidane, Henry, Trezeguet, etc) all played overseas.

If you look at the knockout stages though, you can see Monaco did the legwork there, eliminating Madrid and Arsenal.

BTW, Morientes was the top goalscorer that year, even though Madrid was eliminated in the second knockout stage.

I love the game, and I hate egomaniacs like him giving the game a bad name. He's severely overrated too. He never coached a small team in his career.

Have to disagree with this. He took a mid level European team like Porto and won the Champions League. Haven't seen anything comparable to that lately tbh.

Now if you want to talk about anyone who hasn't coach a low level team, look no further than Guardiola. Actually he never coached any other team besides Barcelona. I would like to see him coach something else than his home team club witch almost plays by themselves (just look at the Spanish National Team) before I can pronounce him a world class coach.

Mourinho on the other hand has proved to be a winner in every place he has been. Further more both Chelsea and Inter got significantly worse after he left the clubs witch further proves that he hadn't that much of an easy job.

It's fine not to like it's style or personality but to question his competence is ridiculous.

Actually it's mostly Porto and some Benfica, but that's not important. As you said there is very poor competition besides the top teams there, which should make it even more impressive that a low budget team like Porto, compare to the European giants, has managed to win it all.

You haven't seen anything like that lately because ManU, Madrid, Barça and the usual batch of Italian teams transitioned into powerhouses.

When Mou won that shit was around the time Greece won the Euro cup. Just a transition period.

I would like to see him coach somewhere else too. I have a lot of respect for the kind of soccer his team plays, and I doubt he can pull that off in other clubs. When I talk about great coaches, I'm talking about guys like Ferguson or Del Bosque, who was not afraid to go to Besiktas after coaching Madrid, and won a World Cup too.

You look at Mourinho, and he is basically Capello. They don't know what it is to have to put a team together without gazillion dollars available.

Mourinho on the other hand has proved to be a winner in every place he has been. Further more both Chelsea and Inter got significantly worse after he left the clubs witch further proves that he hadn't that much of an easy job.

lol at the selective Mou fan memory. As soon as he left Chelsea, Avram Grant (who?) took over and put them in the CL final and finished 2nd in the EPL.
Inter was a powerhouse that won 3 Serie A tournaments in a row by the time Mourinho showed up. He should build a shrine to Mancini who put that team together for him.

If you want to argue he did a over-the-top job in Porto, then you could talk me into that. Nobody is saying he's incompetent. But he's severely overrated.

ElNono I get your points, even though I don't agree with them completely.

The one thing I must say about Mourinho is that I don't see him being in a club for a long time and as such it will be hard to compare him to guys like Del Bosque or Ferguson who had a long history with their respective clubs.

The point remains, he won wherever he coached.

It's hard to argue against facts, particularly when you compare what he did with what coaches in the same club did after and before him. Pelegrini, Ranieri, Mancini, Avram Graant, Rafa Benitez, Scolari, Leonardo, now Vilas Boas in hope of the second coming of Mourinho. They all had the same players and money and not even close the same results.

He already said he wanted to go back to coach in England so you can figure he isn't going to stay in Real that much longer either. Now it's just a matter of Barcelona to keep him from winning and then I will say that he finally found his match.

Amazingly, after that display of dirty play and bad sportsmanship..... Real Moudrid is still complaining about the refs.... WOW just WOW I can't believe they actually think the ref was against them.....to me it's obvious now, it's a Mourinho's strategy... the crying is actually affecting the refs. Real Madrid isn't a fraction of the great club it used to be. :nope

Pep: Madrid better than us
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/944845/barcelona's-pep-guardiola-talks-up-real-madrid?cc=5901

"In the first leg, Madrid were better, in these three days we have improved some things, but I believe they are still better," he said.

"That is the feeling I have, but every match is a story. If the return leg were in two weeks, it would be different. We will have to play better than we did at the Santiago Bernabeu to win the Supercopa.

"We will have to play with the kind of speed we could not put in our game the other day. Three days have passed, we have trained really well."

AKA, 3 of our top defenders didn't start (only 1 of these played), Xavi didn't start, Messi was throwing up from partying the night before because there's no reason to take Mourinho and Madrid seriously, the team barely practiced at all as a full squad in preparation for this season, RMA played their best lineup and yet despite all of these conditions they only managed to tie 2-2 at home :lol.

The thought of moving back to England must be stronger than ever in the Special One's mind, there is no victory to be had in Spain. I think a lot of Barca's ridiculous spending lately is simply to spite Mourinho and continue to shut him down. Of course they want to keep up with Madrid's spending as usual, but I have a feeling they want to completely dominate Madrid during these couple of years due to Mourinho.

Well they did fire Valdano for Mourinho, no? Anyway, not sure what point you're trying to make because whether or not Mourinho has made most of the signings doesn't matter. It's just about Barca's current squad and how RMA (or any team ) has small chances at dethroning them. Given their ego-maniac statuses, I'm pretty sure Mourinho and Ronaldo both have "Greatest Ever" aspirations, and if they don't change some things soon (like move out of Spain), those dreams will continue to get shat on by Barca.

It's unfortunate that Spanish football has come to this, a big 1-up war between 2 teams, at least it's the douchebags that are getting shat on for now. That's really the only reason why I don't strongly oppose the current strength of Barca, because their opponent is Mourinho and Ronaldo.

Well naturally Jose has to stress the importance of team because a good coach manages a good team, but that's precisely it... In order for a coach to be considered great, his team has to play like a team.

And of course, CR meanwhile is busy taking the most shots of any player in La Liga throughout an entire season while scoring 40. Fortunate for him though, he has already subscribed to the monthly "I'm not obsessed about goals" statement program to cover him up.

I've thought the same earlier, simply because RMA had a great season last year despite losing the Liga race and it's always going to be close now with these two teams...they are becoming more even since Mourinho started, but at the same time becoming way stronger than the rest of La Liga. The entire championship is decided on a few simple mistakes that can affect game results, because everyone knows both teams are gonna shit on every other team in the league even while playing their B squads.

Now that they added Sanchez and Fabregas though, Barca has so much depth that Madrid will have to play a nearly perfect season to win. Barca will be able to play a very strong lineup in every game now. Last year, if Iniesta or Xavi were injured and missed only a few weeks it could be the decision maker. Now, they have a guy who was just captain of Arsenal yet he's the 3rd best attacking midfielder in the roster.
