Barca deny Man City bid for Messi (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/www.espnstar.com/football/primera-liga/news/detail/item667948/Barca-deny-Man-City-bid-for-Messi/)

Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has rejected rumours that Manchester City made an audacious bid for Lionel Messi during the summer transfer window. Reports in Spain suggested big-spending City had tabled 50million euros plus striker Mario Balotelli to bring Argentina ace Messi to the Etihad Stadium but Barca had rejected the bid. However, Bartomeu insists no such offer was made. He told Sport: "Our policy is not to sell our stars but on this subject it certainly did not (happen)." Meanwhile, Bartomeu made no guarantees over the future of Barca coach Pep Guardiola but hopes the Spaniard will stay on at Camp Nou. The Barca chief added: "The decision lies with Pep but we hope to go on with him on the bench."

Ferguson defends Jose against criticism

By ESPNsoccernet staff

Sir Alex Ferguson (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/manager?id=30) has launched a staunch defence of the touchline antics of Jose Mourinho (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/manager?id=1), stressing that the Real Madrid coach's behaviour is just his way of showing "enthusiasm" for the game.
http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0906/josemourinhoandsiralexferguson20110907_275x155.jpg GettyImagesJose Mourinho and Sir Alex developed a firm friendship during the former's time at Chelsea

• Neymar confirms Real interest (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/953175/santos-star-neymar-confirms-real-madrid-and-barcelona-interest)

Mourinho, 48, has been heavily criticised in recent months for his outbursts on the sidelines and in front of the media, with the Portuguese most recently lambasted for raking the eye of Barcelona assistant Tito Vilanova at the end of last month's Spanish Supercopa defeat to the Catalans.
A number of people have spoken out against Mourinho, with former Real Madrid director Jorge Valdano insisting "no-one is proud" of his action and two-time European Cup-winning coach Ottmar Hitzfeld slamming his "boorish" attitude and "shameful" tactics.
But Ferguson, who Mourinho has been tipped to succeed in the Old Trafford hotseat, believes that the former Chelsea boss does not intend to be malicious.
"I don't find anything wrong with his enthusiasm,'' Ferguson told Corriere dello Sport. "When I was younger I showed more enthusiasm on the bench too. I was always gesticulating and directing.
"It's Mourinho's nature to be agitated. When I saw Mourinho run up and down the touchline at Old Trafford when he coached Porto, I said to myself, 'Did I also use to do that?'
"People recognise his enthusiasm. The fans understand that he's fighting for them and for the squad.''

If they really want to win the title, Real needs to get a good result head-to-head vs Barca.

Neymar has refuted claims that he is set to sign an agreement with Real Madrid after having a medical.
Reports in both Brazil and Spain insist that Real Mardrid put Neymar through tests over the weekend, with a view to signing a contract that would see him joining in the summer of 2012.
There have been pictures of Madrid's head of medical services Carlos Diez landing in Sao Paolo, where he was reported to have overseen a medical test for Neymar.
However, Neymar, speaking after Santos' win over Corinthians on Sunday, insists no deal is done.
"I have been sold around 30 times already," he told Lancenet.
"There is no truth in those rumours. I am a Santos player and I will stay here for the club's centenary."
He also confirmed that he had been to hospital but for personal reasons only, adding: "I went to the hospital to solve a personal problem. The rumours are just speculation. There is no deal at all."
Over the weekend his agent Wagner Ribeiro did confirm that Real was the preferred destination, over the likes of Barcelona (http://topics.skysports.com/barcelona/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif and Chelsea, (http://topics.skysports.com/chelsea/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif who had also been linked.
Ribeiro told Transamerica: "If he was my son, I would take him to play at Real Madrid. (http://topics.skysports.com/Real+Madrid/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif
"That is the best option to play in Europe, because the president of Real Madrid is already rich and runs the club with passion, and I cannot say the same about Barcelona's president.
"AC Milan (http://topics.skysports.com/AC+Milan/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif was interested, but they said they could not pay €45million.
"Anzhi Makhachkala also wanted to sign Neymar, but that is an ideal club for players who are older than 35. For example, Jucilei, who went to play there, is no longer remembered today and is not an option for the Brazil national team anymore."

Here's a SI article about an hypotetically tournament with (in their opinion) the top 16 teams in the history of the sport. Current Barca lost the final against the '72 Ajax 3-2 (only 'cause "Ajax benefited from winning the draw to play under the rules of its era"). Of course this is just a game and it's impossible to prove but I think it gives you an idea of what the guys that have been doing some studying about this think about this current Barca's place in the history of the sport.

I don't know if this Barca team is the best ever 'cause I haven't seen teams like the '72 Ajax play but I do know that this Barca team is the best I have ever seen by far (and by far I mean very, very far), don't come in here with the Galacticos, the mid 90's Barca or any of that shit, those teams can't hold a candle to this current Barca. I also know that by the time they're gone they're going to break any record in the book, if they haven't already done that.

Yeah, it's been pathetic. What do they have...3 draws? That's terrible, even with the injuries they have. They still have way superior players. I was honestly expecting them to have maybe 2-3 draws the entire season, 0 or 1 loss (vs. RMAO), and win out the rest. I've been quite surprised :lol.

Didn't you remember having watched your first game in the 1990 WC? How can you remember that team?

That Sacchi's team ('87/'91) has 8 titles:

-87/88 Serie A
-88/89 and 89/90 Champions League
-89 and 90 European Supercup
-88 Italian Supercup
-89 and 90 Club's WC

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Associazione_Calcio_Milan#Los_inmortales_de_Sacchi _.281987-1991.29

Guardiola's Barca 'till now ('08/'11 [giving one year of advantage to Sacchi's Milan]) has 12 titles:

-08/09, 09/10 and 10/11 Spanish league
-08/09 and 10/11 Champions league
-09 and 11 European Supercup
-08/09, 09/10 and 10/11 Spanish Supercup
-09 Club's WC (they still have to play this year's edition)
-08/09 Spanish Cup (Copa del Rey)

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josep_Guardiola#Como_entrenador_3

Of course anyone can think whatever they want but to laugh at the mention of this Barca team as the best ever or to say team "X" would "wipe the floor with them" is at the very least a very controversial opinion.

ALVAREZ6
10-26-2011, 01:50 PM
It's impossible to have only 2,3 draws and 1 loss in such a long season.

OK I exaggerated a little..this team is so much stronger than other years with the additions they've made + Thiago growing into a solid player. During the past 2 Liga seasons they've had 6 draws each year, only 1 loss in 09/10, and 2 last season. You would only expect them to improve since they've added so many players that they can have some of the best midfielders and wingers/forwards in the world throughout the week, barring injuries of course, which they are struggling with. Apparently Pedro is out now too for 2-3 weeks with a sprained ankle.

DAF86

You have to consider the physical and mental exhaustation of having won all those years in a row (the more you win, the more you play in a season). I think this is the season were Madrid finally dethrones Barca, at least in the Spanish league.

Q: The mutual hate that Barcelona and Real Madrid have for each other transcends anything I’ve seen in American sports. Is there a rivalry in American sports anywhere near as impassioned as the one between these two teams?
— Scott, Park Ridge, IL

Sports Guy Simmons: Not right now. Our most recent example was probably the Red Wings and Avalanche during the Claude Lemieux era: That one had bench-clearing brawls, goalie fights, sucker punches, retribution fights and everything else you’d ever want from hockey.

Baseball doesn’t have anything like it; basketball doesn’t allow teams to act on any bad blood; and in football, rivalries like Ravens-Steelers, Patriots-Jets and Giants-Eagles lack the intensity/hatred/meaning because they don’t play each other enough. Here’s how I would describe Barca-Madrid: Imagine if the Mets and Yankees were the two best baseball teams by far, if they measured themselves only by each other, if they played six to eight series every year, and if they had many of the best players in the world. Then imagine if baseball was the only sport that anyone cared about in America, imagine if they were throwing at each other almost every game, and imagine if the players hated each other as much as the fans did. That’s Barca-Madrid.

And on top of that, Barca plays soccer at a higher level than any American sports team does anything AND it has the best athlete in the world (Messi, who’s the closest thing to a sports genius that we’ve had since Michael Jordan). Wednesday’s Barca-Madrid bloodbath featured 90 minutes of high drama, an incredible winning give-and-go goal by Messi in the final minutes to win it for Barca, then a last-minute, scissor-kick cheap shot by Madrid’s Marcelo on pricey Barca addition Fabregas that nearly started a full-scale brawl. You couldn’t have asked for more from a two-hour sporting event. If you enjoy the World Cup every four years, you willreally enjoy every Barca-Madrid game. It’s just a fact.

Alexis Sanchez at the 29 minute mark. Much needed goal for him and Barca. Barca are playing unispired football right now.

This was a nice finish.

Why everytime I turn on my TV I see Cristiano Ronaldo taking a penalty? Can he get an entire hat trick from the spot? It would be fitting.

Because unlike Missi, he can make them.

You claim to hate him and constantly observe how RMAO looks better as a team when he doesn't play...and it's a very minor injury anyway, he suffered it during last game but was able to finish the game. The bitch is probably fine.

Well let'S face it , we (lol we) are better off with him vs Barcuefa

But last season, we lost some precious points vs other la liga teams because he was being a selfish asshole

But Ronaldo hasn't exactly been as good as usual in the games vs. Barca - at least that was my impression.

That'S not gonna change anything if we keep CR7 around

Heck, we could bring prime Van Basten and Gerd Muller, it wont change a thing

You have to feed the strikers
