series is awesome, I wish I hadn't read the books and discovered that Martin had no idea where he was going with all this and now he's going to die before he ever finishes it...
In all seriousness, I don't think Martin has Robert Jordan'ed the series quite yet. I did get pretty irritated about the constant moaning from Daenerys in Dance with Dragons though.

Daenyrs is the worst part about the last book, she singlehandedly convinced me that Martin has no fucking clue how to wrap this story up
I just recently started watching this show.
What's the hype about? I'm on episode 7 of season 1 and so far there has been alot of talking and some sex.
After watching the first episode I got excited about seeing the supernatural creature but they have been MIA since ep 1.
Will it pick up or what? No spoilers please...

The supernatural/fantasy stuff is there but it's not really what Martin's creation is about. It'll come in tiny spurts and completely change the storylines, but it's not the main focus. You're about to see some crazy shit in this second season tho.

These stories are more about politics, plots, schemes, and changing your opinion about who is "right" "wrong" "good" or "evil", with a healthy dosage of death and ruthlessness among the way.

Well he just had the sense to separate Lord of the Rings as a trilogy and separate it from the later meandering/incomplete Silmarillion. But that was probably a publishing or editing choice by another person entirely, and was a good one tbh.

Well Theon and Dany's stories are told from their perspectives, which are very infrequent in the books. Beric's (at first) is told through Arya's, so he should get some more screen time, at least in season 3...

That may explain why he's so fucked in the head to begin with.
I think it's more so because he grew up with a manipulative kunt for a mother, a father who hardly acknowledged his or his mother's existence, and a sense of entitlement that comes with being a prince.

They always start a series by following the book almost to the letter.
This happened with Dexter. First season mirrored the the first book dead on. Second season went completely a different way.

Why did they killed off Dyneris guy? Ever since that she has nothing to do and her scenes are getting tedious with the obsessiveness she has over them dragons.
At least when the mongol was alive he kept things interesting. I mean, putting a guy's face in hot fire with liquid gold? That's priceless.

For a TV show, blackwater battle exceeded my expectations but a little too much Sansa and Cersei talk.

Personally while I do think the explosion was impressive and the gore of some kills...
I thought they could have done a better job to show the number of people fighting in this battles, considering they are talking about "thousands dead and hundreds of ships"... in reality they just showed like 40 something people and a tiny gate, I know it's expecting too much from a TV show but c'mon dude... at least CGI some fuckers or make the place a little bigger..

Haha.. agreed on the number of people and ships. I don't know if you watch Spartacus but they had an episode this season with horrible CGI but no one complained about that. They could have applied a similar approach to the number of ships, and maybe the battlefield.
People who have read the book were probably disappointed that we didn't get to see more of Tyrion in action.

The audience is supposed to assume possible death, like with Bran and Rickon a few episodes back. I read the books so I could spoil it but not in a public thread like this one.
Since another poster already alluded to him surviving, I'll confirm that he does survive but his face is "disfigured."
In the books, he actually does well in battle killing a few of Stanis' men.
Yeah I thought the same.
BTW who's that kid the queen was about to poison? Came out of nowhere..
The kid is her youngest son and Joffery's younger brother. He plays a bigger role later on.
She wanted to poison him because she was afraid that Stanis' would brutally torture any surviving Lanisters.

Isn't that what they have been trying to do anyway? :lol
Not exactly.. that was one of their objectives but not Robb's main objective. Getting his sisters back was not a guarantee because Robb had no immediate plans to do a prisoner exchange with the Lannisters.
His main goal was to establish himself as the King of the North and to be recognized as such by the Lannisters/King of the Seven Kingdoms. This move would allow him to keep the North safe and then negotiate a prisoner exchange for his sisters. If the Lannisters refuse, which they did, the war would continue until someone won. Either way, the daughters would not be returning home anytime soon.
Little Finger was crucial is convincing Kat to eventually do the exchange behind Robb's back. In an earlier episode, he lies to her by saying that the Lannister's have both Arya and Sansa and that it was not beyond her power to get them back.
Yeah I get what you're saying but they already said no to the exchange so hand delivering him to the Lannisters wont accomplished nothing in favor of the Stark's.
They're more likely to take the prisoner (forget his name) and still keep Sansa with them, therefore giving the Lannister evem more leverage because now they can threaten to kill her if Robb's army doesn't back off.

It appears from all my friends posts on fb that I need to seriously watch this show.
The reason Catlyn releases Jaime in the books is because she gets word that Bran and Rickon are dead. At that point she realizes she's running out of family members and doesn't give a fuck about anything except getting her daughters back.
Doesn't really make sense for the Wights to not kill Sam, you can only presume that the white walker on the horse wasn't actually looking at Sam, and he went unnoticed.
BlairForceDejuan

I just assumed it was because zombie horseman knew Sam was worthless and was no threat.
Haven gotten further into 3rd book, I'm super excited to see a lot of these new characters in the next season. The actor playing Jamie is going to have a field day with his awesome dialogue.
So anyone else wonder what the title "Song of Ice and Fire" implies? I wonder if Dany marries Jon or something, hence the ice & fire. Or maybe just the fact that winter eventually comes, and Dany shows up with her dragons to fuck shit up.

I liked the first book slightly more as well.
I thought season two was awesome but suffered from having too many characters and storylines. They ended up cutting out keys scenes and/or adding new scenes to help out new viewers with the fast paced storyline.
I wonder if they're going to split up the third book into two seasons because a ton of stuff happens in A Storm of Swords.
So can anyone explain to me, without spoiling it why that old lady let the prisoner go? That's fucking retarded. Was there a point to that?
After watching the episode again, the reason she let him go was because Robb wasn't around and there was an increasing number of North men that wanted Jaime dead. Brienne explained that he probably wouldn't last the night, and if one of the Karstarks tried to murder him, would anyone really try to defend the Kingslayer? Catlyn realized trading Jaime for her daughters was a better deal than murdering him, losing their most important hostage for nothing. There's a little different reasoning in the book, but the end result is the same.

I wonder if they're going to split up the third book into two seasons because a ton of stuff happens in A Storm of Swords.
Quote from co-creator David Benioff (http://collider.com/game-of-thrones-comic-con/102743/)
Benioff stated that going forward the T.V. show would have to divert from the one book = one season formula. The third book is just too big to be contained in ten episodes. Either two seasons or a season + an abbreviated half season would be needed to do the lengthy book justice. Benioff confided that his entire mission when taking on the television adaptation was to get to the third book’s climatic R.W. segment--
I cut it off there as to not spoil the non-book readers.

Daneyrs becomes more and more unnecessary and useless as thestory goes on.
The entire saga would be better served completely taking her storyline out. Grrm will take the Danerys debacle to his grave, IMO, and the fans will end up pissed. He should have had her arrive in Westeros by end of book 3 at the latest.
You cant have a character completely tangential and unnecessary for fifteen freaking years, it reeks of poor writing.

I thought it was kind of lame how (I guess due to budget constraints) they never really showed The Fist of The First Men, where the night's watch was camping formany episodes.
I think this is the main reason they showed that stupid scene with Sam, and his brothers wandering around getting surprised by the white Walkers
If I had no idea about the books, how would the viewer actually understand what the white Walkers were actually charging towards?
The part with Sam getting spared is an unnecessary deviation. And the chapter in the book where the nights watch is ambushed in the dark was awesome, my only guess is they had to dumb it down for money reasons

It's like everytime I read/listen to danny chapter it could be one of any of the 100 pov chapters of hers and it's just the same shit.
If she didn't have three dragons that I assume are eventually going to go boss wild on the entire westeros, I wouldn't invest any interest. GRRM better give us a payoff with the dragons. Tyrion better ride one of those bitches into Castle Black and jack a white walker.
brb dragons make it to westeros but soon die of dysentery before doing anything.

Not a bad episode. They've made some strange deviations from the book that I don't quite understand. I don't know why they emphasized that Sam forgot to send the ravens, or why Ghost was there instead of with John. Don't know how they're going to get around Ramsay Bolton, or build Rob up into the military strategist he's supposed to be (as opposed the vacant dude he is in the show). It was an alright start either way. This is the best book in the series, so hopefully they don't fuck it up.
Second episode talked my ears off. In one or two occasions I thought to stop watching.
It felt like a soap opera with the constant boring talk. :td

:lol Totally shocked myself; wasn't expecting any of that. But I disagree with the fretting. The Walking Dead showed that a show can gain in popularity when even the main characters can die in any given episode. I assume this closely followed what happens in the books, so obviously the diehards saw it coming, but for everyone else I'm sure it'll create a big buzz. i'm cool with how that went down on film for the most part. stabbing the unborn prince made up for the significant number of bannermen omitted from the slaughter scene. figured they were saving that for the season finale though. actually kind of wondering how they'll end the next one now.

There are A LOT of differences in that scene from the way it's done in the novel though, almost with the intended purpose of making it seem like they went to far. In the novel, Stark's wife isn't pregnant and remains at Riverrun whilst the others all go to the wedding. And in the TV version when Lady Stark takes Frey's wife by the throat and begs them not to kill Robb, in the novel it's actually Frey's grandson and he says something like "I'll gladly trade my grandson for your son" which I think is way more colder than the TV version. For the most part I'm cool with how they did it on TV except for that last part.

With all the shit that's happened to Theon this season, I doubt that would be pushing it by too much. Especially if they got away with writing in stabbing a pregnant woman in the belly. Plus they did kind of set it up already showing Arya witness Frey's men x-bowing Greywind to death.

I agree, but there have been some things that happened in the book I thought would be shoo-ins for the show that they either glossed over or reworked in a weird, overly complicated way. Like Stannis going to the Wall.

I predicted the outcome of that. There were too many things leading in that direction, not the least of which being that there are too many Starks to keep up with and that part of the story has jumped the shark already. With little one finding her family, the wedding, the unborn, the power moves in other places... it had to happen.

I guess I find that animalistic, dangerous quality of her's exciting, from Jon's perspective. If I take Jon's perspective, I could definitely see what would be enticing about the thought of taming a wild girl like that, making her mine. Civilizing her, but knowing when you look in her eyes that there's still a certain wildness. I'd imagine it would keep you on your toes in a thrilling way. And of course you'd expect that wildness to come out during sex, if nowhere else. Don't think I'd get tired of a girl like that. Whenever their scenes come up this song plays in my head:

They're such a cuckold family, they absolutely deserved to die, tbh:lol..
The Starks are too naive and crippled by their "honor" and morals, tbh..it felt good watching Robb Stark, his annoying wife and his cunty mother die, tbh:lol..
I hope Bolton and Frey get laced, too, though..Frey looks like he molests 7-year old boys, tbh..

Unreal episode, though..
Arya and The Hound should be a great duo, I love the new long hair nigga that will inevitably penetrate Khaleesi and it was good to see Bran finally contributing to the story, tbh..

Yeah I do agree, the Starks are pretty stupid in general. I would say only Arya hasn't made stupid decisions.
Ned's stupidity led to his death and I got tired of waiting for Robb/Catelyn to make their attack on the Lannisters.
I do really hate the Lannisters though and am hoping for their downfall, especially Cersei.

Robb Stark was a horrible leader from the beginning, tbh..he made too many mistakes..
The Starks don't have the genes for leadership, tbh..
I hate Joffrey and Cersai, but I actually like Jaime and Tywin, tbh:lol..Tywin regulating Joffrey is increasingly entertaining..
I don't want to be spoiled by the book readers, but I'm hoping that Tywin and Arya meet again at some point..
The Stark's honor system fucked them over. I liked them, only because they're the good family and the show is centered heavily on them. I'm team blondie now.
The Lannisters are a fucked up family, cant root for them imo. Little nigga is the only good guy in there. Also as of the past few episode Jaime has been alright. Othewise fuck those imbreds, specially that tool Joffrey. Cant wait until he gets raped with a sword through his ass.
I agree with Robb being an unofficial cuck though. His mother is one of the dumbest bitches in television. Basically Robb died because of her.

A guest on Bill Simmons's podcast was saying that the GOT producers were afraid for the actor that plays Joffrey because people want to start fights with him in real life:lol..
I hate him as well, but the actor they chose for the role has been absolutely perfect, tbh..everything about him, from his dialect to his fucking hair cut, tbh..

Me neither.
I actually have all the books up for reading right now if I want to. Just not up to it.
I even downloaded the audiobook for easier inspiration and still couldn't commit to them. The audio books are about 16 hours apiece.

Do you know if it's one book = one season? So then book 4 would be the one to read after this season finishes? I'm not sure I can stomach dude's writing, but I agree the long wait sucks.

He's got the attitude and shit down, but in the books he's tall and handsome. The actor they got to play him is kinda short and retarded looking. lol

Not definitely sure but one season does not equal one book. Maybe for the first season that was true but I keep hearing how many stuff is been lefted out in the show and still cant pack everything on a season. Specially things that happened in "A Storm of Swords."

Naw, I think that's asking too much. I tried reading the first book after I'd already seen season 1, and the flabbiness of dude's writing coupled with the fact that I knew the plot made it an impossible task. But I'm thinking that I like the story enough that I could enjoy the book as long as it's not covering territory I'm already familiar with from the show, which I'm guessing would be book 4? Eh, maybe if the last few eps wow me I'll be motivated, though I like not knowing what's going to happen week to week. Bleh, just thinking out loud.
See, there you go.
They did a similar thing with Dexter. Followed the first book dead on and then kind of branched out from there.

But GoT follows the books closer thsn the other two. They just kinda did their own thing after the first book.

It's been a few years since I read the books, but I think this season of GoTs will end before book 3 ends. There's still a few things that needs to happen and I don't see it happening in the span on one one-hour episode.

The last audiobooks I listened to were the last couple books of Stephen King's Dark Tower series a few years ago; wanted to recaptured youth when I really enjoyed those first couple, instead I lost all respect for one of my favorite childhood authors, those last few books were so shitty! :lmao
I really don't like getting read to tbh, and it's not about effort, I'm just a pretentious motherfucker when it comes to what I read. :rolleyes got like stacks of literature and philosophy to get through etc; I'll just figure out which book starts new post-season 3 material. I do like the story.

Season three and four are covering the third book just because of the length. I'm not sure if book four will overlap or when they'll cover that material.

Season three and four are the first and second half of book three. Books four and five take place concurrently but are broken up by area instead of chronologically. Book 4 primarily covers events in Kings Landing and book five covers what is happening in the east and on the wall (for the most part). My guess would be that season 5 will tackle the series chronologically and have parts of books four and five. If you were going to read the books and didn't want to slog through the beginning...IMO...the third is the best in the series, start to finish. But, you might get lost because a lot of the houses are absent or glossed over in the TV show and a few vital characters are altogether different.

I don't watch this show that much but when I do, I normally don't know what's going on. With that being said, I watched the last 15 minutes of the episode that just aired and that shit was intense. I can see why people were freaking out. Freakin barbarians but that's how they roll on this show.

TBH, Its just getting started. Loved watching my friends reactions since they havnt read the books... Been thinking to myself "You think that was shocking? Your in for a world of hurt." :lol
I know what happens and I am shamelessly living vicariously through my friends shock.... I love it. They constantly ask me "what happens next?" and I revel in my silence. 2 Days before the Red Wedding my neighbor asked me "hey, is Game of Thrones going to get any more interesting? Its starting to get boring".... I just smirked and walked away.... Now, he doesn't know what to think....
SPOILER ALERT, DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW!
Highlight at your own peril.
Joffery finally dies (and I think tywin Lanister does too... its been a while since I read that part), Catelyn Stark is resurrected by the supposed "Lord of Light".... Much more happens than I can remember from the books that far back.... gonna be a wild ride!

Ah fuck it I will start reading the books when this season wraps up.
That bit about Joffrey is not really a spoiler imo. Common sense dictates his fate. :lol
Eh, the purple wedding is a lot less cool than the red wedding. I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed with the means behind that outcome unless the TV series adds more to it.

With all the shit that's happened to Theon this season, I doubt that would be pushing it by too much. Especially if they got away with writing in stabbing a pregnant woman in the belly. Plus they did kind of set it up already showing Arya witness Frey's men x-bowing Greywind to death.
Well, they certainly did. Looked pretty good too.

The finales are always more of a wrapping up the season and setting up the next. The penultimate episode is usually the one with crazy action (Ned, Blackwater, RW) so I didn't expect much from the S3 Finale. Still enjoyed most of it though except for the last scene with Dany which was pretty lame IMO.

Yup, this was the denouement. Dany didn't get all that much time this season at all since they made up a storyline for Stannis.

And author George R.R. Martin says he's still optimistic the TV series won't reach the end of the story before he does:
"I think the odds against that happening are very long. I still have a lead of several gigantic books. If they include everything in the books, I don't think they're going to catch up with me. If they do, we'll have some interesting discussions."
I hope either group doesn't rush it.
This sounds like a competition now. RR Martin may be thinking about rushing and that's never good.
