I'm having a hard time figuring out Daenerys though. She's going around freeing slaves, but her ultimate goal is to conquer Westeros and take the iron throne? Or is she expecting them to just hand the kingdom over to her once she shows up with three adult dragons and call her their liberator? I guess it won't matter because they're setting up a white walker/dragon showdown... I'm just wondering what she is thinking. Monarchs usually aren't freedom fighters.

She's different bro. She's Azor Ahai/Prince that was Promised. Like maester Aemon concluded, no one ever expected the "Prince that was Promised" to be a girl, but the Valyrian word for "prince" is gender neutral.

Part of it is that she knows she's supposed to take back Westeros, but at the same time, the whole sheltered upbringing means she knows fuck all on how to go about doing it.
In addition, her exposure to the cultures outside Westeros seems to be making her waffle on continuing to push for the far off goal, or deal with what she's seeing with her own eyes in the here and now.

For those of you who didn't like Ed Skrein as the sellsword Daario Naharis, then there's a bit of good news — the role of Daario has been recast for season four, with Dutch actor Michiel Huisman (Treme) taking the role.

There were tons of important storylines starting off this season...esp Oberyn and Arya's stories...Probably Dany's realization about her dragons.

IIRC the scene where Jamie gets "disowned" by Tywinn had much, much, much, MUCH more "UMPGH!!" to it in the book. It was way too calm when Jamie refused Casterly Rock. Should have been a near explosion between them.
Other than that quibble, was a great episode.

Great episode, but again they are fucking up Jamie's character. That exchange between Loras and Jamie was totally 180 from the books. In the books, Jamie puts Loras in his place and is showing maturity...not whining like a bitch about Cersei and getting owned by Loras.
Oh well, still a 9/10. Jeoffrey looked like a walking dead zombie lol

Anyways, I don't remember Joffrey's death happening so quickly after the Red Wedding. Poor Tyrion gets blamed for everything, tbh. We never even got to see drunk ass Dontos constantly try to hit on Sansa by saying that they were like Florian and Jonquil. lol

Only reason I speculate poison is because Oberyn's squire was rubbing his dagger's with a rag quite precariously, & well Tywin pointed out Oberyn's expertise with poisons...No spoiling man, just logic as well as a good memory, unlike others I did not read the books. I don't remember--but didn't (in the book) the Red Viper have a little 'stinging' surprise for The Mountain? That Oberyn knew ahead of time that he'd probably not win and well, wanted to get his eye-for-an-eye.

Getting the confession was the most important thing for Oberyn. He wanted to kill the Mountain but he had to hear him admit what he did to his sister and implicate Tywin.

Another theory is that he's the son of Ned's sister and that Tagaryen prince that kicked off the war leading to Robert as king.

07-21-2014, 12:38 PM
I think Snow is likely the unbeknownst bastard son of Robert Baratheon and Ned's sister, as evidenced by Stark's hesitance to discuss the mother, and changing Robert's final edict to read "rightful heir". Kid is literally the bridge between the old Targaryen throne as being born of a married Targaryen Princess and new Baratheon throne as actual child.
Interesting theory. Not sure how much support it has in the series, though.

Another theory is that he's the son of Ned's sister and that Tagaryen prince that kicked off the war leading to Robert as king.
R+L=J is usually how you see it referred to
There is also another major theory that Tyrion is also a Targaryen. I don't buy this one.

The rightful heir line was there because Ned was going to support Stannis, as he was next in line of succession (as far as the Baratheons go).
R+L=J is the biggest and best supported theory for Jon's parentage. There's a wealth of knowledge from the novels to support it. But the theory basically states that Lyanna (Ned Stark's sister) was not kidnapped and murdered by Rhaegar Targaryen (who by all accounts, other than Robert's, was a decent guy). She ran off with him, which ended up being the catalyst that began Robert and Ned's rebellion. Robert kills Rhaegar at the Trident, and Ned later goes on to find his sister on her death bed. The details of her death are fuzzy, but it's easy to extrapolate from the information that is given that she could've died from child birth complications. She makes Ned promise her something before she dies, something that continues to haunt him for the rest of his life. That promise probably is to keep the identity of her child a secret, especially from Robert as he has no issues with killing Targaryen children. That could make Jon Snow (who has both Stark and Targaryen blood) the title character of the whole series "A Song of Ice and Fire".

I haven't caught up to all the new episodes yet, but can we all agree that swapping Fake!Arya with Real!Sansa was a good deviation from the books? Yeah, the books are supposed to be epic in scope, but there are quite a few things that could have used simplification.
Just because the source material was different doesn't make that difference better from a storytelling standpoint.
Well I'm guessing this season is religion and politics.
Mareen; fighting for their corrupt traditions but its the only thing they know. Its their culture.
King's Landing: fighting against corruption but have the wrong way of going about it.
They're both doing the right things....by going about it the wrong way or doing it for the wrong reasons.
That ending lol

I wouldn't say that, but it isn't as good as last season. To be fair though, I think that has more to do with the books than the show itself. A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons (the two books this season and probably next are based on) are widely regarding as the weakest in the series thus far.

Or the red wedding. I don't really get it either. Maybe because Sansa's really the only innocent character on the show, but that also makes her one of the most boring. She's just passively gets passed around from dude to dude for their own political reasons without actually doing anything for herself. I was waiting for her to do something or say something, but no. She just bent over and took it.

yeah, the books fell apart after 3, and they were still way better than the show, and the show is still probably the best thing on TV. :downspin:
what surprises me about the show is there's so much material that they throw out in order to condense it into the time they have, yet the scenes are so slow and they waste plenty of time on scenes that weren't even in the books. and the fight scenes are consistently long and terrible too, just show a couple slashes and cut to the end already.

Casting calls have gone out for a vast variety of roles for the show’s sixth season, but according to Watchers on the Wall three stand out as potential descriptions for three characters from the novels: Euron Greyjoy, successor to Balon as ruler of the Iron Islands, Randyll Tarly, the abusive father of Samwell, and Septon Meribald, a religious man Brienne and Podrick meet during their travels through the Riverlands. Here’s the three descriptions:

Roughly:
Season 1 = book 1
Season 2 = book 2
Seasons 3 and 4 = book 3
Season 5 = books 4 and 5
The showrunners are really condensing the last two books (combining characters, eliminating certain storylines, etc) I'm assuming because they'd be hard to film otherwise. They really are a big sprawling mess of new locations, characters, etc while moving along the established storylines at a snail's pace. But that really creates a problem for the upcoming seasons. Book 6 should be completed before next season (the producers have a copy of the draft anyway), but there is no way in hell that book 7 comes out before the show finishes. George RR Martin has reportedly revealed the end of the story to them, so it can be completed without the book. But realistically this show maybe has three seasons left, while Martin won't finish the last book till 2020 at tbe pace he's going. So all the diehard book readers are going to have the ending spoiled for them.

Tyrian, Littlefinger, Melissandre, Sons of the Harpy.
Thems all I have remaining.
We didn't see much of Petyr Baelish in these last few episodes.
We saw none of Bran and Rickon. What is going on up there in the north.
Winter has come and Stannis sacrificed his family...for a loss.

Reading interviews, it seems he's perma dead.
I hope not. I'm really running out of rooting interests.
I don't honestly care about the Stark brothers or daughters.

I think he has to say that in interviews so that there is a degree of suspension going into next year. If I understand correctly, he was given a raise to come back for season 6. He is one of the few characters that people care about. Now he has an out on the Knight's Watch and with Stannis still possibly alive, I could see them teaming up to build an alliance of Northerns and Wildlings to take back Winterhold.

All of the central characters are signed through season 7.
It's possible contracts are misdirection for suspense since everything going forward will be the shows discretion (for most part).
I agree and firmly believe what's best for the show is Melisandre doing her thing abstaining Snow through her magic, as her visions of "flayed banner in flames" would be easily done with Jon Snow, a northerner, maybe with a Wildling army, plus maybe Baelish and his army, maybe even with Sansa.
Plus, I think Snow is both the most interesting plotted character, and aside from Baelish and Tyrion, likely the only capable strategist and politician remaining, and likely only one with a claim unless you believe Tyrion is bastard Targaryen from rape.
Daenerys sucks at politics and bores me every episode.

Keeping in mind that only George Martin and the showrunners know what happens here on out since Winds of Winter hasn't been released yet, I'm like 95% sure Jon Snow survives somehow. Jon, Tyrion, and Daenerys are the only unkillable characters as far as the story goes.
I liked the last three episodes. The season picked up after a rough start.

I don't see how they could even survive that fall.
wasn't it into a deep snow bank against the wall?

Stannis's ending was horrible, tbh..5 years of build, just to end it all in a horrible 2 episode arc:lol..
Arya's ending was cool, but they probably wasted too many scenes on her during this season..same with boring-ass Dorne, everything about that storyline is terrible..
Sam needs to die, too , hes way too boring..

Cersai's scene was nice, though, she did a really good job acting it..pretty cool how they kind of humanized one of the most hated chrscters on the show:lol..

yeah, disappointed with stannis' story.
i was expecting something epic because in the promo the bitch with the red hair says, "the lord of light has kept his promise."
but in the episode the bitch with the red hair says, "the lord of light has keep his promise." and then someone's like, "half the men left and they took all the horses."

Keep in mind that Stannis did not die on screen. There's an off chance that Brienne did not really kill him for some reason.

I am inclined to think that he will be back next year. I also think that Jon Snow will be resurrected and he and Stannis will team up with various clans from the North and the Wildlings to retake Winterhold. The winter will not effect that group the way that it did Stannis army.

This is true, and I also don't expect him to be dead, but I was disappointed in how they rushed so much shit..
It's understandable that they had to rush a little to fit all those storylines into 1 season, but they wasted way too much screen time on the shittiest storylines IMO..

The magnitude of shitty dorne plot will weigh this season down as prob GOTs version of Wire season 2.
I still thought the wall episode was amazing and it had a terrific season finale

I dont trust that little kid..
What an annoying little faggot. I knew this shithead was going to be Jon's demise. Hate to see him done raw like that.
Hopefully though I'm hoping there is a reason why Melisandra is there. She can use whatever magic to bring him back.
Otherwise, without Jon or any interesting character at Castle Black that that is one less location they will go to from season 6 on.

I don't see how they could even survive that fall.
That was epically bad.
At first I was like..are these idiots going to commit hara kiri or what.
I dont care how much snow there is piled up. You will suffer the same fate as that bitch that got thrown out of the hall.
But I also thought this was something they knew wouldn't hurt them? Like they tried it as kids? They didn't even think about jumping. That's either retarded of them or they knew they would survive it because they've done it in the past.
Either way, that's far fetched as fuck.

Actress Rebecca Van Cleave (photo below) worked closely with star Lena Headey on the gripping penance walk in Sunday’s season 5 finale. While filming the Walk in Dubrovnik last October, Van Cleave performed nude while Headey wore a simple beige shift. The show’s visual effects team then merged the performances together—combining Headey’s progression of facial emotions during Cersei’s punishing hike to the Red Keep and Van Cleave’s physical movement echoing Headey’s body language in order to create the seamless illusion that Headey was completely bare for the sequence.

I'm guessing Jon gets resurrected and Brianne kept Stannis alive so he could help get Sansa back or something along those lines. Bran will control a dragon and either make a bunch of weapons or just kill a bunch of walkers.

Barely got around to finishing Season 5 yesterday. WTF man someone please tell me Jon Snow isn't really dead, can't believe they did my nigga like that. I was fully expecting him to unite everyone and lead the fight against the white walkers. I was in shock and genuinely sad when they killed him. :lol

Really doubt he's dead. He's easily the most important character in the series.
He's been reported on set multiple times already. Nigga's in season 6. :lol
:lol Damn, I actually wasn't expecting people to reply that there was a chance he comes back. I thought he was a goner but I won't complain if he's back.
I read today that the chick that plays Arya said he is actually dead though so idk. Or maybe they're just trying to keep it under wraps.
