I don't know about calling Chile a dark horse. Everybody expects them to do well, they're placed alongside Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay as the contenders. But if you go with the most traditional picks of Argentina and Brazil only, I agree: Chile has to be the pick.
Keep an eye on Colombia, they have a great generation of players.
I'm very interested to see what Colombia can do.

At any rate, very disappointing showing. They've been showing a much better game in the games leading to this one, against much more difficult opponents.
They're still a team with no good defenders. Bolivia shot 3 times to goal, scored 1 and almost makes another one. Passing disappeared as soon as Bolivia started pressing.
They better get their asses in gear against Colombia or it's gonna be difficult for them to leave the hotel :lol

Too many midgets running around for Argentina... they can only score by walking the ball into the goal... they need to play either Higuain or Milito up front to give the team some balance and other options going forward. At least an escape route by playing ball forward to a bigger guy who can hold the ball up with his back to goal.

Dont know about the defense :lol no quality there whatsoever.. that will always be the weak point. Bring back Samuel maybe :lol

They need Pastore who is a playmaker... and was watching the game from the bench.
Then you pick between Higuain/Milito//Agüero/Tevez to play upfront alongside Messi.
It might not be enough though, because the defense is so weak. If they played Brazil or Uruguay today, they lose 4-0 easily.

Romero
Zabaleta Burdisso Milito Zanetti
Banega Mascherano Cambiasso
Lavezzi Messi Tevez
Only change is Zabaleta for Rojo. I don't like it, we'll have Tevez and Zanetti (two right fotted players) attacking from the left side. It will be difficult to open up the field from that side.

The Mexico national soccer team was plunged into crisis just days ahead of the Copa America after eight players were suspended Tuesday over allegations they invited prostitutes to their team hotel.
Team director Hector Gonzalez Inarritu confirmed the players, currently training in Ecuador, had been handed six-month bans for breaching Mexico's code of discipline.
He did not divulge details of their transgressions but reports in the Mexican media alleged the eight were dropped for inviting prostitutes to their Quito hotel.
The eight players -- Israel Jimenez, Nestor Vidrio, Jonathan Dos Santos, Marco Fabian, Jorge Hernandez, Javier Cortes, David Cabrera and Nestor Calderon -- were also fined 50,000 pesos ($4,200) each by the Mexican Soccer Federation.
They had been preparing to leave Ecuador for Argentina to compete in the Copa America, South America's premier international soccer tournament, which kicks off Friday.
According to the reports, the players' alleged antics came to light when members of the Mexican party reported items such as iPads, cell phones and cash had gone missing from their rooms.
When officials checked the hotel's closed circuit television system they saw six women being escorted into the building by a team representative. Reports allege the women were prostitutes.
"They are young and can make mistakes but also must bear the consequences, assuming responsibility," Gonzalez Inarritu said, according to Mexico's El Universal newspaper.
"I also extend an apology to all the fans for this type of events should not occur again."
Mexico's first game of the tournament is July 4 against Chile.

Under 22 + 5 refuerzos. And the 5 refuerzos they brought are terrible.
This was the first time that team ever played together. No prior friendlies or anything after those 8 players were suspended.
Here's the squad all under 22 except for the 5 and many of them with 0 caps.

Not that it matters... but I'm curious to know if FIFA will hold these results against Mexico in their next ranking (or if they get thrown out on account of the restriction applied by one of their own governing bodies; i.e. CONCACAF)...
Oh and the U-17 team + Gio + Michel would have done way better than this squad... I'm really surprised at the ball-control, finesse, game-vision, and speed that the U-17 squad is playing with at the moment...

but I guess I should mention the fact that the Mexican League has the most footballers represented in the Copa America tournament right now...
Only because the entire Mexican roster minus Gio plays there. Remove players who play in their own domestics and Italy and Spain are much higher (near 30 players in CA'11) and Mexico is near the same numbers as those in England (~15 players).

I'd be interested to hear about the FIFA rankings as well for Mexico. I know the olympics don't count towards the rankings, and that's essentially what this is for Mexico and CR, but I bet they get included anyway. I don't imagine a win v Mexico can count for ____ (Chile or whomever) but not show on Mexico at all.

Only because the entire Mexican roster minus Gio plays there. Remove players who play in their own domestics and Italy and Spain are much higher (near 30 players in CA'11) and Mexico is near the same numbers as those in England (~15 players).

tbh feeling the need to place those additional qualifers 'comes off' as more 'discrediting'... Mexico's A-team still has players in their domestic league to have kept them up there (as far as league representation is concerned)...
Aldo De Nigris (who will now be headed to Europe)
Ricardo Osorio
Memo Ochoa
Zinha
Gerardo Torrado
Israel Castro
Hector Reynoso
Ludueñas (sp?)
etc...
I don't think anyone in their right mind believes Mexico's C-team is expected to perform anything but poorly against everybody else's A-team (Chile and Uruguay are pretty strong teams)... the surprise would be if Mexico actually won a game in this tournament...
sigh... I'm still pissed Mexico's A-team isn't there... for that matter, I'm also pissed that the USNT turned down the invite.

Oh and the U-17 team + Gio + Michel would have done way better than this squad... I'm really surprised at the ball-control, finesse, game-vision, and speed that the U-17 squad is playing with at the moment...
No way, you can't compare the level of competition the U-17 is facing with the level of the Copa America. The U-17 squad would have lost by at least 3 goals against Chile, they're still kids, there's too much difference. Bealive me I know from experience.
