Regarding the Milan v Bartha match... :lol
SAN SIRO STADIUM ANNOUNCEMENT
A reminder that under Article 6 of 401/1989, the possession of rockets, flares, firecrackers, smoke bombs, clubs, bats or other blunt instruments is an offense punishable by a prison sentence of anywhere between 6 months and three years. The ignition of any kind of smoke bomb or rocket, as well as bringing disciplinary action against the club, IS PROOF OF POSSESSION OF SUCH INSTRUMENTS AND AS SUCH THE PERSONS WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR BOTH ADMINITRATIVE AND PENAL SANCTIONS.
http://www.acmilan.com/en/news/breaking_news
Actual translation: "Bring everything you've got."
These people enter the stadium in masses and with no one checking them. Even the stewards/security guards in the Curva Sud carry huge garbage bags full of little bottles of Sambuca for €3 each, and prob sell a couple thousand each game.
It'll be loud Wednesday night, but it probably won't affect Bartha from dribbling around for 99% of the game :rolleyes

lol at Mancini for benching his second best player in the most important game of the tournament for them. I guess he's aiming for the Europe League.
And who would that be? Let me guess ... Aguero?
For a side that couldn't allow themselves to lose, City was pretty poor for a long time yesterday. At times, there still seems to be a lack of a true playmaker in central midfield.
Balotelli should have buried that header late in the game, but he still was twice the player Dzeko was yesterday. Anyway, Napoli should already have lead 3-1 at that time.
ElNono
11-23-2011, 01:20 PM
Dzeko threw a smoke screen when the season started, but it's obvious he's a very limited player. He can probably stand out in the EPL where the game is faster, but against Italian teams, and especially in Italy, you need rougher players like Agüero.
quentin_compson
11-23-2011, 01:29 PM
Well, Mario Gomez is a very limited player as well, but that doesn't stop him from scoring goals in abundance these days.
Anyway, I rate Dzeko higher than you do. I think he got what it takes to be a top quality striker in Europe - size, strength, speed, technique. But I'll admit that he definitely hasn't been top quality on a consistent basis yet.

Weren't you pretty high on him recently? If I recall correctly, there was a thread (where Messi vs. Maradona or vs. Ronaldo talks were going on) in which you gave numerical rankings for many players. Dzeko was extremely high, and I just don't see how people think he's that great.
I'm pretty sure that was you.
ALVAREZ6

Turns out I did not recall correctly. It was Phenomanul.
I guess this should go here as well...
IMO if offensive-minded players were ranked on a "completeness as a fooballer" scale, where 100 was the perfect score then (based on 'today's' competencies and on how much the opposing team has to factor them in when developing game strategies):
1. Lionel Messi = 99 (almost perfect player: possessing speed, agility, ball control, creativity, only missing strength is heading)
2. Cristiano Ronaldo = 96 (of course CR7 will score often, because he takes more than half of the team's shots on goal - that said, he's still a very gifted player).
3. Wayne Rooney = 95
4. Xavi Hernández = 94
5. Diego Forlán = 92
6. Edin Džeko = 90 (Many here don't follow him regularly, but this guy can score from anywhere.)
7. Wesley Sneijder = 90
8. Sergio Agüero = 90
9. Andrés Iniesta = 89
10. Luis Suarez = 89
11. David Villa = 89
12. Samuel Eto'o = 88
13. Neymar = 88
14. Cesc Fábregas = 87
15. Zlatan Ibrahimović = 87
16. Mesut Özil = 87
17. Nani = 87
18. Dani Alves = 86
19. Thomas Müller = 86
20. Samir Nasri = 86
21. Carlos Tevez = 86
22. Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite (Kaká) = 85
23. Robin Van Persie = 85
24. Ronaldinho = 84
25. Javier ''Chicharito'' Hernández = 83 (my homer pick; though one could make a case he could probably rank higher on the list based on the kind of year he's had).
Edit: forgot Nasri (who at this moment is probably France's best playmaker given Ribery's age)... and inserted Nani...

Guardiola is playing with fire with that new defensive system he's trying (Busquets playing as an hybrid of centerback and miedfielder), Milan's goal came because everyone was out of position trying to follow that stupid movement (when Barca has the ball Busquets moves forward and Puyol and Abidal close up next to Mascherano, when they don't they form a clasic 4 men line).
He's tried a lot of new bullshit this season and it has cost them some points, you have a system that works, stick wiith it.

At first I thought of it as an insult to Milan (playing most of the match in Abbiati's fucking box), but then I remembered what type of player he is, and why he is still one of my fav defenders ever to play (played D my entire life). Barca don't look that good this year, sure i'd say they're still the favourites but not as dominant as they were last season but maybe they'll turn it on in the next few months.
I just have a good feeling about Arsenal, Arsene seems to have got his head out his ass and stopped trying to force the youngsters into the squad. Depending on who they buy in January I think they will be dark horses.

That Cesc goal against Milan was one of the most beautiful moments I ever witnessed watching the CL. After they beat Milan, I really thought Arsenal had a shot at winning the whole thing. And then they kinda fucked it up in typical Arsenal style against Liverpool. The second leg of the semifinal between Chelsea and Liverpool was a great game, though. One of the best in recent years in the CL.
Anyway, I think it's pretty much a fifty-fifty thing between Arsenal and Milan this time around. Hopefully, Arsenal will have Sagna and Wilshere back in good form by February.

Gibbs returns for Arsenal, which means Vermaelen will play at CB (and no Djourou, thank God). Rosicky is set to start as a winger, though. I don't know about that; I'd rather have seen Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Arsenal's starting XI:
Szczesny, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Gibbs, Song, Arteta, Ramsey, Rosicky, Walcott, Van Persie.
Getting a goal is important, a draw would be nice, a win would be great.

In a way, this game seems worse than the 2-8 against Utd. Then, it seemed like every shot that United attempted was going in, and at least Arsenal were able to create something going forward as well.
Today, there was nothing of the sort. They were outplayed, outhearted (I doubt that there is a word like this, but anyway) and outmuscled from the first minute up to the last. When Rosicky is one of your better and more comitted players, it speaks volumes about the team as a whole. The defence couldn't cope with Robinho, Ibrahimovic (world-class performance, by the way) and Boateng, and the attack kept running into nowhere or into brick walls of defenders.
But well, about half a year ago, there was reasonable doubt Arsenal would even make it past Udinese to the group stages. Looking back at the group stages, they took care of business, but that was about it. There was not one really good, complete game (maybe except for the home game against Dortmund). That being said, I thought that the tie against Milan was more or less a 50-50 affair, but boy, was I wrong.
Hell, anyway, let's focus on getting a top 4 spot in the EPL, and maybe there will be something in the Europa League for us. The big stage definitely was too big for us this season.

one thing that makes the defense aspect easier is milan came out and didn't look interested that much in build up. they kept playing balls over the top trying to get in on one hit and so they never got a feel for possession. if they keep that up arsenal's chances of staying clean are a lot better. counter attacks have been scary a few times though
