This team isn't winning shit. Any Spurs fan not wearing rose colored glasses sees it. Regardless of how game 7 pans out. This team forgot how to play, and I put this on par with the shit show Pacers implosion. I've been their biggest defender all year, but its obvious as the nose on my face this team is not built to win championships. Their built to play the right way, a model franchise, corporate know how, blah blah blah blah. Meanwhile, Miami is fucking 10's in South Beach, chuckling at the meltdown going around them...load up another bowl son, cause we about to cruise to a 3 peat nigga!

In the end the FT-count looks quite close (28-24 for SA), but it shouldn't be forgotten that the last 8 FT's for Dallas were based on intentional fouls by SA to stop the clock.

Come on man, we still nearly stole the game.

But I think we're fucked in the 2nd round.

They gave it away due to fatigue in the fourth. Manu hardly ever attacked the rim and all his threes were short as hell, Tim got outplayed by Whataburger Blair, and Tony hasn't been right all season. Doesn't help Pop keeps forcing Beli onto the court.

That place up there is exploding :lmao Of course it's because of the refs... blablabla :lol

Actually, before the Spurs started to foul intentionally to stop the clock, they had an 28-16 advantage in FT's while playing IN Dallas. Hardly something to complain about. The last 8 Ft's for Dallas were all committed to stop the clock. Only because of that the final count (28-24 in favor of SA) looks closer than it really was.

feel the same way. if Spurs can't beat this Mavs team at home, then they deserve whatever criticism comes there way.

But I think they'll skullfuck the mavs. the bigger issue is the second round if we get there. Spurs seriously need to start adding youth and athleticism again, the big 3 just look sad at times. Which means Pop will keep throwing legacy contracts at them, Bonner too.

The cliff-jumping upstairs is not as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, I'm more worried about Game Seven than most folks are. I don't know if the Big Three have another gear they can use anymore. Duncan was such a liability out there.

Venti Quattro
05-02-2014, 10:20 PM
The difference for the Mavs in this series is Monta Have It All and Vince Carter, two of the most notorious playoff chokers, are making shots they usually don't make in a high-pressure playoff game. I don't know what Diggler and Carlisle did to these two but it's hella effective. God damn, even Whatablair is making crucial plays he wouldn't even dream of if he was still in San Antonio.

I'll never criticize Duncan but this is the first time I'm thinking he's getting too old. I felt this way in 2011 but he bounced back. I think Spurs can still fire on all cylinders at home, but we'll see after that.

Yeah, it makes no sense to me why Tiago got so little time in the 4th as well as Green (who hit all of his shots), when Green hits his shots, added with the defense he should be out their major minutes.

You should have realized he was old after the WCSF last year. As I said, there's a reason why Pop took him out during the end of regulation in Game Six. Depending on Duncan's level of pride, I can see him retiring really soon. He's just literally not the same player he used to be anymore, and it's becoming harder and harder to hide.

Seems obvious, but people will bring up his per36 numbers and talk about how he has turned back the clock and all that. The team makes a lot of sacrifices for Tim to get his numbers. Duncan only looks like the player he used to because Green, Leonard and Splitter protect him defensively. He can still have a HoF impact on a game, but he shouldn't be on the court during crunchtime against a PnR-heavy team like Dallas.

This.

As a longtime Mavfan, I can't remember the last time where plays weren't run through Dirk in the closing minutes of a playoff game. The Spurs kept coming but like you said, 36 year old Vince fucking Carter and Ellis take over on the offensive end and Blair is making crucial plays on the defensive end in high pressure situations? I don't know what Carlisle has done but it's amazing.

Spurs will prolly be one of the home teams to lose G7 at home, with the Raptors being the other. This way the league/media will have some examples to point to the rest of the postseason and in the Finals for an OKC/Heat game 7 so when the Heat pull it out it'll fit the theme of the postseason where HCA doesn't matter.

He's a great regular season season coach and an elite one in the postseason as well, but he's prone to being too stubborn and letting his pride cloud his judgement. Carlisle doesn't. Pop is easily a top 3 coach in the league, maybe even top 2 (not sure who I'd take between him and coach Bud), but RC is clearly the best and has been since 2011.

Can't believe my Mavs won tonight. I just thought they were going to blow it after being up by 8 with a couple minutes left. Mavs got to make dem free throws. 9 missed free throws is huge. Ellis and Blair were beasts tonight. Dirk still hasn't gone off yet. Well, I'm just glad my Mavs can't lose the series at home. Not confident at all but most of the experts only had Mavs winning 1 game so they have done their best.

With the 8 year anniversary approaching, my wife and kids are finally starting the road to recovery after The Event That Shalt Not Be Named on 5-17-06

The Blair situation is tough to deal with at this point in our lives, but I still will never forget the time when Jason Terry did it to Michael Finley. My world was turned upside down. I reached for the phone. I didn't know where I was. Who I was. Everything was just in slow motion.

Just that morning, I remember me and my business colleague were about to close on a big sale, everything was looking great. Little did I know that my world would be changed forever later on that fateful day. When the blow was landed, my mouth froze and my face went numb. Who was behind this and why? As soon as I got my wits together I finally managed the strength to phone my kids. Seconds ticked away like hours. Finally....I heard their voice on the other end. My heart sank. They were alright. Seeing my wife rush in from the kitchen with a refill of guacamole and tortilla chips I embraced her with the biggest hug ever. From that moment on, I realized how limited our time was on this earth and to appreciate each passing moment as it might be our last. When the monster was suspended in game 6, I knew that God was on our side. The city rallied together and justice was served.

RIP to those affected, 5-17-06. Never Forget.

He has his moments, but yeah, he's having a hard time even boarding out there. I hope he still have one more big game in him.

Pop is one of the best basketball minds of all time. We know that, the media knows that, players know that, but unfortunately, Pop knows that too, and that goes straight to his arrogant head. Tonight, along with game 6 of the Finals, are prime examples of how arrogant he is. Unfortunately, Pop doesn't trust his players anymore, he only trusts himself. He sees himself as the mastermind behind all of the success for SA, and therefor he overthinks constantly with the lineups that he uses. Someone needs to tell Pop that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Tonight, Green was on fire, he shot great, looked good on offense, and he can shut Ellis down, and Ellis has been the key for the success Dallas has had this series. Also, while Duncan wasn't as good as he can be on defense, he still rebounded well and looked very good on offense. Finally, Splitter has been the best player on this team this series. Shocking, and weird, but its' true. His pick and roll defense was perfect and he was making his free throws, drawing fouls, and scoring. You could say that Dirk scored on him, but Dirk was making those shots over anyone tonight.

These three players played great. However, because Pop overthought and doesn't trust his players, these three did not have near as many minutes as they should've had, especially in the fourth quarter. Instead, Pop decided to run everything through Parker and Ginobili in the fourth quarter, and those players were awful tonight. Parker and Ginobili combined for 11-31, with Ginobili going 1-8 and Parker going 10-23. Green, Splitter, and Duncan were a combined 18-23 with Duncan going 7-9, Splitter going 4-7, and Green going for a perfect 7-7. Now I know Ginobili and Parker are to blame, Parker plays too much heroball, and Ginobili was just plain awful tonight with poor shot selection and constant dumb decision making. However, any coach should see when a player like Ginobili is having an off-night, and should defer to the player who has been shooting great, because, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Green, who was on fire, hardly saw the floor on the fourth quarter. Hell, Errors might have seen more playing time in the fourth quarter. Now who was the anchor for the Dallas run that gave them the win? Monta Ellis. And not surprisingly, his points came while Green was NOT guarding him. Everyone who has watched this series know how much Dallas relies on Ellis. But for some reason, Pop chose not to put the best defender on Ellis on the floor when it matters most, in the biggest game of the season. He chose instead to have Ginobili who Ellis constantly flew by and was no help to the team on offense. Like I said earlier, if it ain't broke don't fix it, but Pop doesn't trust his players, he only trusts himself. He thinks he has more control than his players, and that results in horrible rotations when the fact is, the hot players who have been playing the best should be in, especially for the crucial moments.

The same goes with Splitter, he played great, but got benched in favor of Errors and Diaw in the fourth quarter. We built a 7 point lead off of him with great ball movement and post play, but Pop had to try and be the amazing mastermind and overthink the situation, and like Green, sat him at a horrible time. Immediately that 7 point lead went away while Dallas built an 8 point lead that sealed the deal, and I can guarantee that run would not have happened and SA would've won if Pop kept the lineup as Parker-Green-Leonard-Duncan-Splitter for the final 7 minutes of the fourth quarter.

I'm not trying to completely discredit what Pop has done for SA. He's an amazing basketball mind, but ever since this arrogance has come from him, I just don't think he's an amazing coach like he used to be. He did prevent Duncan from getting a thumb ring.

Chinook
05-03-2014, 06:17 AM
:lol Pop trusts his player too much, if anything. That's why he would play Manu down the stretch even if Green was outplaying him. That's why he left Duncan in so long even though Ellis torched him. Once he trusts certain players, Pop will keep trusting them no matter what. The biggest counter-example is Duncan on big defensive situations, but that is a necessary adjustment, seeing as Duncan simply can't guard the PnR effectively anymore. It's hilarious that people think Duncan should have been in on these possessions. He was in for most of them, which is why Pop took him out for the rest of the game. Simply looking at Duncan's FG% and ignoring the damage he does to the Spurs' spacing and defense is misguided. He wasn't even a plus player in the fourth quarter.

Green, Leonard and Splitter should have played more. I agree that's on Pop for putting too much trust in Ginobili. Pop has pretty much misread his roster all year, which is why Green is on such a low rung while Beli and Mills stayed on high rungs. He wasted two tremendous games from his role-players by insisting on playing the players he trusted down the stretch as opposed to the players who were playing the best. This is nothing like Game Six of the Finals. The Spurs just got beat off two improbable rebounds that Duncan would have had no more chance of getting than anyone else. It's silly hindsight to blame Pop's "arrogance" for that.

Monta delivered for the Mavs except for that late-game brain fart that almost cost the Mavs the game. If he was gonna be that kind of dumb ass, he should have thrown the ball higher if he wanted to kill the time off.

:lmao :lmao what a horrible prediction

should be.

Blair is acting like a typical butthurt coon out there. Spurs gave him a lot, even covered some of his financial issues like stiffing a local jeweler. Yet he's acting like he's django unchained and of course the Mavs are feeding off of it, even the Nazi wants some of it.

Spurs just need to man up for a fucking game.

Hey I don't care how we got to this point, but if he's pissed off and motivated to stick it to his former team, that's fine with me. :)

I do think Splitter should get more minutes. He has been great this series. But I don't blame Pop for running his offense through Manu and Parker both in a closeout game on the road. It's kind of a fluke that neither was that great, although Parker made some shots late to keep the Spurs alive and prevent Dallas from pulling away.

Honestly, the Spurs are at home for a Game 7 and if you can't pull that off, you don't deserve to move on.

Honestly, the Mavs have already done what is most expected of them in this series (w/c is to win three games) and if they choke tomorrow afternoon, you could just attribute it to San Antonio being better. However, should the Mavs take Game 7, the meltdown will be catastrophic that there will be a shortage of razor blades in Texas. There is no room for error for San Antonio here, while the Mavs possibly have a lot of room to push forward.

I really think that the Mavs have what it takes to pull one more upset in San Antonio, and they will.

It's guaranteed the Spurs will lose, almost like how game 7 was in the Finals last year.

Anybody's series at this point. One hot shooting hand on either team can take it. Dets why you can't let it get to this.

Unfortunately, I see the Beans pulling it out and then going on to beat Portland in 5 competitive games. Lillard and Aldridge will probably have a field day but I see the Beans quieting their role players. Unless they're a superstar or wear a Lakers/Mavs jersey, the role players always tighten up when playing Lard Anbeanio in the playoffs

The ginobili one at 48 is really bad, but the Splitter one where hes posting up Calderon was the worst.

I never realized what a flopper Splitter was. Worse than Ginobili?
