... trying to get people from celebrating with end-of-year parties.

Theaters and open air restaurants?

Yes, quite likely targets by comparison.

One conference room rented out from a learning center for the developmentally disabled?

Not terribly likely in my book.

Agreed. Really odd choice for that type of attack.

I don't buy that it's Islamist terrorism. I'd bet it's not.

For one, no one suicided themselves, which leads me to believe it's not an Islamist fundamentalist act. Allegedly three suspects and not one suicided? It's typically a hallmark theirs.

Second, the place of massacre is odd. They could've killed more people in a strip mall or something. But they didn't because it was a targeted attack IMO. That place was targeted. Islamist fundamentalists don't target centers for mentally disabled. They target high-activity places.

Third, no terror group has taken ownership, as far as I know. Usually by now you'd have had ISIS, Al-Qaeda etc. taking responsibility.

Conclusion: not Islamist fundamentalism.

I don't expect you to be honest about it. I expect you to get angry again.

Yeah, I get that. It's the sum of the three factors, but especially the 2nd one that is the biggest reason as to why I'd bet it's not fundamentalism.

If by some chance it turns out it is an act of fundamentalism, I'd be surprised, and don't take this the wrong way, but I'd feel "fortunate" since if it were to be they could've taken ALOT more people if they had targeted a place with higher volume of people. But they didn't because they're not fundamentalists.

Not in a gun show, they don't, AFAIK... at least in most states
Cmon Nono the loophole myth has been debunked time and time again.

“The law already requires licensed gun dealers to run background checks, and over the last 14 years that’s kept 1.5 million of the wrong people from getting their hands on a gun,” said Mr. Obama, when he announced his gun-violence task force results on Jan. 16. “But it’s hard to enforce that law when as many as 40 percent of all gun purchases are conducted without a background check.”
The 40 percent figure that Mr. Obama and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, California Democrat, cite so frequently comes from a 1997 Justice Department survey. A closer look at that 40 percent number reveals it includes 29 percent of gun owners who said they got their guns from family members or friends and acquaintances.

That leaves 11 percent of firearms obtained through unfamiliar people. Of these, 3 percent reported they got their firearms “through the mail,” a process that requires a background check from a federally licensed firearms dealer. Four percent said “other,” and 4 percent made their purchase at a gun show.
The “gun-show loophole” is an exaggeration designed to foster the false impression that this is how the bad guys acquire firearms. A 2001 Justice Department survey found 0.7 percent of state and federal prison inmates bought their weapons at a gun show.
Gun shows aren’t the equivalent of the Wild West. The vast majority of vendors at the shows are fully licensed dealers who must run the FBI check at the time of sale. What the gun grabbers are really after are transactions between private individuals trading or selling their personal property.

Most states do not require the background checks. As such, you can legally buy a weapon without the ID.

I think it's perfectly fine that some sellers might go out of their way and do background checks before selling, but they're not obligated to.

The shooting occurred at around 11 a.m. at a conference room at the Inland Regional Center, which provides services to people with developmental disabilities, officials said.

The president and CEO of the social services center told The Associated Press that the conference area was rented out by the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health.

A person named Syed Farook is also listed in records as being an inspector for the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, going back at least as far as mid-2014.

They were wearing tactical-style clothing that was "loaded with magazines for a gunfight," she said Wednesday.

Davis said the suspects also threw a thick-gauge copper pipe out of the SUV, but no explosives were found inside.

The fake pipe bomb was equipped with a piece of material made to look like a wick.

Where do I get my copy of the Terrorist rules and regulations?

I don't get why you are spouting off on this "copy".

I get it, you believe terrorists can/will target any place. I happen to believe based on past occurrences they narrow down massacres to location having criteria I mentioned before: maximize casualties and/or specific targets like synagogues, Charlie Hebdo etc (places they view as opposing to their extremist beliefs).

If it happens that he/they did this for purely religious purposes, then that is where I would expect a terrorist act to place. If it is more to it than that, then I would expect a different scenario which isn't the norm.

After hearing he's Muslim and some other reports it could be that you are right and that I'm wrong (I've no issues admitting this--I'm wrong a lot in life on a lot of shit). It's a possibility I didn't give much consideration considering precedent, but it's looking like that is a significant or way more likely than it was before scenario.

It's still a fluid situation so we'll learn more. Whatever the case may be, whatever the agenda was, I'm always dumbfounded to find out that these mass shooters usually always get through the cracks because people around them generally don't report to authorities suspicious behavior, or aren't payingenough attention or just don't give a shit (whether it's terroristic or mental issues). These crazies come into contact with people daily, they've gotta show some signs of potential for extreme violence it would seem to me.

San Bernardino shooting suspect traveled to Saudi Arabia, was married, appeared to be living 'American Dream,' co-workers say

As the holiday gathering got underway Wednesday morning, Syed Farook joined dozens of his colleagues from San Bernardino County’s Public Health Department. Farook seemed quiet during the early hours of the event, then vanished just as a group photo was about to be taken.

Shorty afterward, gunfire erupted at the Inland Regional Center where the employees filled a conference room. Within hours, law enforcement sources identified a man named Syed Farook as a suspect in the massacre and said he was shot to death in a gun battle with officers.

Police officials released little information about the suspects, including where they worked. And the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing, did not provide any details about the suspect other than his name.

Co-workers told The Times that they were shocked to hear Farook’s name linked to the shooting. Two health department employees who were in the bathroom when the bullets began to fly said Farook was quiet and polite, with no obvious grudges.

They said Farook had traveled to Saudi Arabia and returned with a new wife he met online. The couple had a baby and appeared to be “living the American dream,” said Patrick Baccari, a food inspector who shared a cubicle with Farook.

Baccari and Christian Nwadike said Farook, who worked with them as a health inspector for about three years, rarely started a conversation. But the tall, thin, young man with a full beard was well-liked and spent much of his time out in the field.

They and other colleagues said Farook was a devout Muslim, but rarely discussed religion at work.

“He never struck me as a fanatic, he never struck me as suspicious,” said Griselda Reisinger, who worked with Farook before leaving the agency in May.

Reisinger said she heard that the office had recently held a baby shower for Farook and that he had taken paternity leave.

Wednesday night, Farhan Khan, who said he was a brother-in-law of Farook, said he had known Farook for much of his life and last saw him a week ago.

“I cannot express how sad I am,” he said during a brief statement at an Islamic center in Anaheim. “I have no idea why he would do that…. I am in shock that something like this would happen. … My condolences to the people who lost their life.”

Baccari said he was about to dry his hands in the bathroom when bullets ripped into the towel dispenser, sending shrapnel into his face and blood spilling into his eyes. The rounds pocked the walls as he dove for cover onto the floor. He and another man pushed the door closed with their legs and waited for police arrive.

Later, Baccari remembered his co-worker disappearing before the photo session.

“Where’s Syed?” he recalled someone asking.

map of all the mass shootings in 2015

According to the tracker’s data, the San Bernardino incident represents the 355th shooting this year, the Washington Post reported (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/12/02/the-san-bernardino-mass-shooting-is-the-second-today-and-the-355th-this-year/). The incident in San Bernardino also overshadowed another shooting in Savannah, Georgia that occurred the same day, (http://savannahnow.com/crime/2015-01-02/police-1-dead-4-injured-overnight-savannah-shooting#) claiming one life and injuring three others.

However, there’s not a standard definition of “mass shooting.” Adam Lankford, a criminal justice professor at the University of Alabama previously told the NewsHour (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/one-mass-shooting-happens-per-day-u-s-data-shows/) that FBI’s data included incidents where fewer than four people were shot and didn’t include shootings of multiple people that occur in a home or other uncrowded setting.

So does the gun "control" narrative become more important now that Muslims in the US procured guns for a workplace attack?

If the above remains relevant, and strikes the publics eye, the way various groups portray the lessons to be learned will be interesting.

but EC now has open borders, so countries with lax gun control can provide guns to countries with strong gun control, analogous to slave, red states supplying guns to states, cities with strong gun control.

We don't know if it was terrorism yet, but I just find it funny that people think terrorists have to follow some sort of playbook when it comes to carrying out an attack. ISIS doesn't follow any rules and encourages cells to act independently and think outside the box.

map of all the mass shootings in 2015

However, there’s not a standard definition of “mass shooting.” Adam Lankford, a criminal justice professor at the University of Alabama previously told the NewsHour (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/one-mass-shooting-happens-per-day-u-s-data-shows/) that FBI’s data included incidents where fewer than four people were shot and didn’t include shootings of multiple people that occur in a home or other uncrowded setting.

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/heres-a-map-of-all-the-mass-shootings-in-2015/

When people hear "mass shooting" they think of Sandy Hook, they don't think of a drive-by in Chicago which a lot of these on the map are. Not saying one is worse than the other because all shootings are bad but there is a difference that should be distinguished.

Sounds like they obtained them legally so no it does not become more important because they were Muslim, unless they were flagged before which doesn't seem to be the case. And I don't know how they can push more gun control when CA has some of the strictest in the Country.

The attackers were "dressed in dark, kind of tactical gear," San Bernardino police Chief Jarrod Burguan said. They carried rifles and semi-automatic handguns.

Two handguns recovered have been traced back to Farook. He purchased them legally three or four years ago, an official said. Two rifles were purchased by someone else, possibly a former roommate, also legally three or four years ago. Officials said they don't think that person had anything to do with the shooting.

Christian religious leaders have had to do away with literalism to minister to their followers with the rise of rationalism in the renaissance. Belief in the two systems is not equitable despite both religious texts explicitly stating for literal interpretations. This notion that muslims are just like christians is false because of this dynamic.

Islam doesn't have that problem so it's followers are not able to mince meaning when push comes to shove in social circumstances. The Shia is very specific on how to handle conflict and disputes and violent reprisal is part of the package particularly when dealing with infidels. It's very difficult for US muslims to be devout and nonviolent in the face of US military and foreign policy over the past 30 years.

The religion is tailor made to deal with invaders from the West.

‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly Happens

SAN BERNARDINO, CA—In the hours following a violent rampage in southern California in which two attackers killed 14 individuals and seriously injured 17 others, citizens living in the only country where this kind of mass killing routinely occurs reportedly concluded Wednesday that there was no way to prevent the massacre from taking place.

“This was a terrible tragedy, but sometimes these things just happen and there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them,” said Michigan resident Emily Harrington, echoing sentiments expressed by tens of millions of individuals who reside in a nation where over half of the world’s deadliest mass shootings have occurred in the past 50 years and whose citizens are 20 times more likely to die of gun violence than those of other developed nations.

“It’s a shame, but what can we do? There really wasn’t anything that was going to keep these individuals from snapping and killing a lot of people if that’s what they really wanted.”

At press time, residents of the only economically advanced nation in the world where roughly two mass shootings have occurred every month for the past six and a half years were referring to themselves and their situation as “helpless.”
