Islam is a fucked up religion, there is no reason we should be trying to become a sanctuary for more people who believe this stupid shit.
What if they're not from Syria? Should we ask every refugee or immigrant what their religion is before we let them move here?

I understand the knee jerk fear when this shit happens but halting the migration of Syrian refugees to keep Islamic extremists out of the country is like building a 2 mile wall along the border of Mexico. The focus on that specific group is so myopic.

and the NRA and gun industry licking their chops over hugely increased profits for every mass slaugher they enable
How mass shootings profit gun makers and fuel America's addiction to guns (http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2015/12/3/1456362/-How-mass-shootings-profit-gun-makers-and-fuel-America-s-addiction-to-guns)
Black Friday has become a gun buyer’s bonanza as marked by FBI records of processed background checks, which serve as a rough indicator of gun sales activity. Last year, the FBI processed about 176,000 background checks on Black Friday. This year, checks on Black Friday were up five percent from last year to a record 185,345, according to the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/03/us/black-friday-gun-sales-soared-fbi-data-shows.html?_r=0). Background checks do not exactly measure gun sales, since not all people who get checks purchase guns and since once checked, buyers can purchase multiple guns. However, if only one in every ten background checks resulted in a single gun purchase or more, America sold more guns than there were children born on that day.
The other notable news about Black Friday: the mass shooting at Planned Parenthood, where Robert Lewis Dear killed three people and wounded nine others.
It is hard to establish correlation, especially given how much other climate factors over the past year could contribute as well, but the relationship between the Planned Parenthood shootings and gun sales is not coincidental, either. This year saw the biggest June gun sales ever (http://www.forbes.com/sites/frankminiter/2015/07/17/why-gun-sales-boomed-in-june/). That month was marked by Dylann Roof’s deadly rampage through Emanuel AME Church, killing nine black Americans in an effort to start a race war. The last daily record for background checks came shortly after the Sandy Hook school shooting in Connecticut. The AP reports (http://bigstory.ap.org/article/a32508a00eb74c88acd55871c3a4ba95/fbi-background-checks-gun-sales-peak-black-friday):
The previous record for the most background checks in a single day was Dec. 21, 2012, about a week after 20 children and six adults were shot to death in a Connecticut elementary school. The week following the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary saw the processing of 953,613 gun background checks.
After the Colorado shootings, President Barack Obama once again called for stricter limits on the availability of guns.
These numbers are staggering, and reports from gun manufacturers indicate that mass shootings like yesterday’s San Bernardino, California and Savannah, Georgia (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/12/02/the-other-mass-shooting-that-happened-today-in-the-united-states/) shootings are not just blips in the market, but regular and predictable sales-driving occurrences for guns.
The Intercept, in a review of investor statements from gun manufacturers and related companies, found that Sandy Hook and other mass shootings brought new gun buyers into the fold at high rates, both from fear of new gun legislation and from fear of attacks. The Intercept reports (https://theintercept.com/2015/12/03/mass-shooting-wall-st/):
“The gun business was very much accelerated based on what happened after the election and then the tragedy that happened at Sandy Hook,” Ed Stack, the chief executive of Dick’s Sporting Goods, a leading gun and ammunition retailer, said in September 2014 at the Goldman Sachs Global Retailing Conference. Stack noted that the industry saw “panic buying” when customers “thought there were going to be some very meaningful changes in our gun” laws. The new sales “didn’t bring hunters in” but rather “brought shooters into the industry,” he added.
[...]
Last year, Tommy Millner, the chief executive of Cabela’s, a retailer that sells guns, boasted at an investor conference in Nebraska that his company made a “conscious decision” to stock additional weapons merchandise before the 2012 election, hoping Obama’s reelection would result in increased sales. After the election, the Newtown mass shooting happened, and “the business went vertical … I meant it just went crazy,” Millner said, according to a transcript of the event. Describing the “tailwinds of profitability,” Millner noted Cabela’s “didn’t blink as others did to stop selling AR-15 platform guns” and so his company “got a lot of new customers.” The AR-15 is a high-powered assault rifle based on the military’s M-16 model but without the full automatic capacity,
Steve Miller, the chief executive of Big 5 Sporting Goods, another gun retailer, was asked by investor analysts in 2013 to describe the state of the market during a conference call that year.
The “real surge” in firearm sales, Miller said, “took place following the tragedy in Sandy Hook.”
Each of these surges occurs in the wake of not only attacks, but at the slightest provocation of anyone saying anything about gun control or reform. After each of the aforementioned attacks, President Obama was criticized by the rabid National Rifle Association and their base of paid praying politicians (http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2015/12/02/3727709/lawmakers-offer-prayers-for-mass-shooting-victims-receive-large-checks-from-the-nra/) for even daring to consider any alternative to arming every adult and child. The NRA then in turn stokes angst about gun control and fear of attacks into calls for more people to buy guns.

It's explicit in the texts. If you take Leviticus and much of what Paul says in the new testament you can do some heinous shit without any other provocation. Same goes for the shia where they parse it through their justice system. Violent retribution is prescribed often and the burden is spread amongst all believers for justice to be served.

I guess if you want to consider the Paris attacks the norm for them. It's not like a mass shooting happens every day there.
In just 2015, France suffered more casualties – killings and injuries – from mass public shootings than the U.S. has suffered during Obama’s entire presidency (508 to 424). This number includes the San Bernandino massacre on Wednesday.---John Lott

Yes Obama, this does just happen in other countries
The facts shoot holes in Obama's claim that US is only host to mass killings
On Tuesday, President Obama stunned Americans and French alike with his false claims about gun violence in America. "I say this every time we’ve got one of these mass shootings. This just doesn’t happen in other countries,” claimed Obama. It is a claim that he has continually repeated over the years.
Talk about being self-absorbed.
The French have witnessed three mass public shootings this year. January saw two attacks, one on the Charlie Hebdo magazine and another on a Paris supermarket.
In the November attacks, 129 people were killed and 352 were injured. In just 2015, France suffered more casualties – killings and injuries – from mass public shootings than the U.S. has suffered during Obama’s entire presidency (508 to 424). This number includes the San Bernandino massacre on Wednesday.
Obama also overlooks Norway, where Anders Behring Breivik used a gun to kill 67 people and wound 110 others. Still others were killed by bombs that Breivik detonated. Of the four worst K-12 school shootings, three have occurred in Europe. Germany had two of these — one in 2002 at Erfut and another in 2009 at Winnenden, with a total death toll of 34.
Obama isn’t correct even if he meant the frequency of fatalities or attacks. Many European countries actually have higher rates of death from public shootings that resulted in four or more murders. It’s simply a matter of adjusting for America’s much larger population.
Let’s look at mass public shootings from 2009 to the middle of June this year. To compare fairly with American shootings, I excluded attacks that might be better classified as struggles over sovereignty. For instance, I did not count the 22 people killed in the Macedonian town of Kumanovo last month.
Norway had the highest annual death rate, with 2 mass public shooting fatalities per million people. Macedonia had a rate of 0.38, Serbia 0.28, Slovakia 0.20, Finland 0.14, Belgium 0.14, and the Czech Republic 0.13. The US comes in No. 8 with 0.095 mass public shooting fatalities per million people. Austria and Switzerland are close behind.
In terms of the frequency of attacks, the United States ranks ninth, with 0.09 attacks per million people. Macedonia, Serbia, Switzerland, Norway, Slovakia, Finland, Belgium, and the Czech Republic all had higher rates.
There are two other studies on these questions that have gotten a fair amount of attention.
One, by State University of New York-Oswego public justice professor Jaclyn Schildkraut and Texas State University researcher H. Jaymi Elsass, who look at shootings across countries, has left out a large number of shootings in other countries.
Yet, despite the extensive news coverage their study has received, they miss a lot of cases. For example, in France, they miss three mass public shootings:
— Tours, France, October 29, 2001: four people were killed and 10 wounded when a French railway worker started killing people at a busy intersection in the city.
— Nanterre, France, March 27, 2002: a man kills eight city councilors after a city council meeting.
— Toulouse, France, March 19, 2012, Mohammed Merah killed four people (the killer also killed people in Montauban, France).
Other cases are missed in such countries as Austria, Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Italy, Macedonia, Spain, Switzerland and Slovakia.
It takes a lot of time and effort to find all the cases, but if you get all the attacks in the U.S. and miss those in other countries, it makes the U.S. look a lot worse.
Another by Lankford reportedly goes back to 1966, but while he shares his study with reporters, he requires that they don’t share it with researchers in the area and, despite the wide publicity given his findings, he has repeatedly turned down requests by myself to see his research.
The president’s statement was also limited in another sense. He was referring only to shootings in his statement, but bombs are frequently used elsewhere in the world.
The Boston Marathon bombing was a rare exception these days in the United States. But countries such as Russia have frequently suffered bombings. Indeed, since 2009, the nation has seen 1.31 deaths per million from bombings that caused four or more fatalities.
Between 2007 and 2011, there was an average of 6,282 terrorist attacks per year outside of Iraq, Afghanistan and the U.S. On average, more than 27,000 people were killed, injured or kidnapped each year.
Obama keeps using these attacks to advocate requiring background checks on private transfers of guns. Such a requirement, however, already exists in France and almost all of Europe.
The background checks failed. So, too, did France and Belgium’s complete bans on the weapons used in those attacks. The terrorists who attacked those countries still got the weapons that they wanted.
Of the people stopped by background checks, nearly all are people who should have been allowed to buy guns. These delays may be mere inconveniences for most people, but they can endanger the lives of people who are being stalked and need immediate protection.
There is another common factor between mass public shootings. Virtually all of the attacks in America and Europe are taking place where general citizens can’t carry guns for protection. At some point, it has to become apparent to gun control advocates that gun-free zones only protect the killers.
Can Obama actually believe his claim that these attacks “just doesn’t happen in other countries”? More likely, Obama is willing to go to any extreme as he pushes for European-type gun control. The last thing he wants to admit is that countries with such strict gun-control laws can have so many deadly attacks.

462 deaths from mass shootings in 2015 so far in the USA.
Including the worst mass shooting of the year, which unfolded horrifically on Wednesday in San Bernardino, Calif., a total of 462 people have died and 1,314 have been wounded in such attacks this year, many of which occurred on streets or in public settings, the databases indicate.

"Let’s look at mass public shootings from 2009 to the middle of June this year.
What do you propose?
I think the rest of the country could follow some of California's model, limiting how many guns you can purchase in a period of time, for instance. Waiting period is a good idea to make federal. They could also eliminate the gun show loophole, where background checks are often not required. Background checks could also be made more comprehensive to include mental health red flags. Perhaps like driving, there should be a test to acquire a gun license.
There will always be holes and ways for people to get guns, but I think it's a good idea for some more regulation.
But you don't think we need tighter control. It's fine to have disagreements, I guess.

but on the topic of the shooting, here's my thoughts on the workplace grievance storyline...
i'd understand the angle if the guy got into some big argument at work, and he himself went back in and shot the place up. not that it would be a cool thing to do, but it could happen. but to get pissed off at a work party, go home, get ur wife and be like "hey hun, lets go to my work and just murder a bunch of folks. take the kid over to mom and say ur last goodbye"... why would the wife go along with it (if it was a spur of the moment event triggered by an argument that day).
and in the meantime they had thousands of rounds of ammunition with them, full tactical gear, and pipe bombs (or at least devices meant to look like pipe bombs). i just find it hard to believe it was a workplace grievance thing if the wife was also involved.
i dont buy that the killing happened because of some argument on that specific day
it's possible his workplace grievance was something brewing for a long time, told his wife about it, they planned it, executed it... but then why would it be relevant that he had an argument at work on that specific day. it's a fact that keeps getting emphasized in all the reports, that he got into an argument at work, left, and came back
did the wife also work at the same place? perhaps they had a common vendetta

yeah, i read some obscure story about a guy who lived nearby saying he had seen suspicious activity (aka a bunch of muslims at the house) and didnt report it because he didnt want to be considered a bigot. but at the same time, by that logic, wouldn't any muslim family dinner be "suspicious activity" with that kind of standard?

That report said there were some packages brought by those people. Again, what would fucking happend if police just go there and checked if there is anything suspicious ? Islam is literally killing people, but stupid political correctness is making people more afraid of being called racist than killed.
I can`t stop laughing at idiots tweeting about gun control, white terrorist when there was no information about perps. When police revealed that they were muslims with automatic weapons, vest etc, everybody avoid that in articles, videos. When you call thing as they were, you are racist.
Of course there is other side of the story, when there would be people calling police to every muslim family, which wouldn`t end up well in longer period.

Theoretically I think one could blow their Johnson off with chap stick with the proper projectile launcher. I am led to this conclusion by having shot a Chapstick projectile out of a blow dart gun. Chapstick containers happen to fit very snugly.
5 m away from target wall Chapstick shot horizontally off a 1m platform. The Chapstick fell approximately 0.17 m averaging multiple trials. Chapstick was replaced and target made softer as Chapstick exploded against wall a number of times.
Thats about 25 m/s with a crappy blow dart gun. You do the physics and math. That's a big projectile hitting soft tissue going pretty fast. A longer gun with a better fit... Ouch.

Darrin doesn't understand mutually exclusive either. He's a UTSA engineering graduate. I've asked him about some of the lower order math stuff and he has no idea. Asking about multivariable calculus you might as well ask him to admit he is wrong.
That's the rub. If he had said he went to a good school it would be obvious he is lying but he didn't so we have to wonder if the degree he claims to have really is that worthless.

lol... it's clearly workplace violence when en employee shoots up his own place of work. it just describes the location of the attack
the question i was referring to previous page was about motive. on the day of the attack, some thought it was terrorirsm, some thought it was due to workplace grievances (suspect reportedly got into some argument/dispute at work).
the workplace grievance theory isn't really supported by any other findings though. based on what i'm reading, she "pledged her allegiance" to isis but we aren't sold she was contacted back by them or specifically instructed. self-radicalized

coworkers have said they never had any issues with him or sensed he had issues. maybe they just thought they'd be easier targets, and familiarity with the area would be to their benefit. we dont know. i dont think the 9/11 attackers had personal vendettas with the specific people on those planes
there's going to be more info coming out as time goes by, but at this time i dont think evidence supports the grievance angle... else why would the wife be so involved?

Sure. He knew there were a decent amount of people there he could kill, he knew the building layout, he knew the room was unsecure, and he knew he'd have a good chance of making it to a getaway vehicle.

The analogy was meant to show that it's not necessarily a personal hatred and desire to kill those specific people. Maybe it was just an easier target because of familiarity of the building and area.

In particular, the networks were criticized for airing personal information about the shooters' living relatives -- including an un-blurred driver's license under the name Rafia Farook, who is Farook's mother -- potentially putting them at risk.
MSNBC also speculated that photographs of a woman found in the apartment could be Malik, showing the photos on the live broadcast without verifying they were actually her.

Dems to worship at mosque with ties to terrorism
A handful of House Democrats will meet early Friday afternoon at the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, a Northern Virginia mosque that has controversial ties to terrorists who have engaged in terrorist acts against the United States.
For example, it was widely reported that some of the Sept. 11, 2001 hijackers attended the mosque, and that Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan worshipped there.
Anwar al-Awlaki, who the U.S. government believes was a recruiter for Islamic terrorists, was an imam, or a prayer leader, at the mosque.
Still, Democratic Reps. Don Beyer of Virginia, Keith Ellison of Minnesota, and Joe Crowley of New York said praying at the mosque will help demonstrate that Congress stands against incidents of violence against Muslims.

It's one thing if the terrorist guys were randomly praying there, but if an imam has a link to terrorist activities and the center didn't do anything about it, then that's a huge problem.
