I have watched Tim Duncan play since I was 7 years old, and he has been my favorite player ever since. I remember when I was 9 and I had to watch game 5 of the NBA Finals at my aunt and uncle's due to the power being out at my parents, the Spurs won this game to win their first ever championship and Tim Duncan was named Finals MVP. I can remember my father saying "Michael Jordan didn't win Finals MVP this quickly" and I knew I was watching a special player and would witness a special career, but I had no idea just how special it'd be. After 5 championships, 3 Finals MVP's, and 2 MVP's, he has had one of the greatest careers in NBA history and there is no doubt he is a legend. But what's most amazing about him is how he was able to conduct himself on and off the court. He was a true example for kids and young players everywhere, I am so thankful to have had Tim Duncan as a role model. He won with grace and lost with class, and he was the truest epitome of sportsmanship. I'm saddened to see this legendary career come to an end, but I am beyond thankful to have witnesses 19 years of greatness. I know he'll never read this, but thank you Tim Duncan! Thank you for blessing basketball fans with amazing performances for 19 incredible years. The sports world will miss you. Your legend will live on forever.

Not only it blows, the fact he's likely going to be in the same HoF class than that clown Kobe is ridiculous.

But perhaps that's how he wanted it, low-key, somebody else getting all the media circus.

I wonder if you're allowed to decline to attend a hall of fame induction? If so, he'll do it. The Kobe slobbering is reason enough to want to avoid it.

I like it better that he's going in with Kobe, tbh..it's such a sharp contrast in style, it makes for great comparison and discussion..the biggest attention whore and worst teammate in league history vs. the most humble and unselfish superstar in league history:lol it's a great rivalry, particularly with the fans..

I'm on Twitter checking out comments from other players, but nothing is more annoying than accidentally clicking on a Tweet and seeing the :(but he played for Pop, Pop made him:( comments from the casual fans:lol

So many ignorant people that are either too stupid or weren't NBA fans at the time that missed Duncan's peak..it'll always be overlooked by the non-hardcore fans, because it occurred during the dark days of the NBA(as reflected by the ratings)..the numbers-oriented media(fortunately, most new-media falls in this category) and fans understand his dominance during his peak, but a lot of fans and media believe that Duncan was always the player we saw in the 2011-2014 system..

Tim and Kobe together makes it a truly great HOF class.
Why do you care if some folks will focus more on Kobe?

Because we know one of the two is all about him and the hype, and media is quick to knobslob over that, especially the old media types.

I'm not saying Kobe doesn't deserve his induction or that he shouldn't do his media circus thing.

All I'm saying is that Tim (and perhaps Manu) deserve their moment in the spotlight on their own, even if they generally shun that.

But perhaps Harlem is right, and the big contrast will make for a bigger appreciation.

Well damn....I don't want to believe it....but we all knew it was coming at some point. I was 9 years old when he was drafted...I'm 28 now. I literally grew up watching this guy bring greatness not only to San Antonio...but South Texas (I'm from Del Rio). My favorite # growing up was #21 and I wore my Duncan jersey to school proudly (Especially during Playoff time). I got picked on by non-Spurs fans when they lost, and win or lose I wore that jersey with pride, because I knew as long as we had #21 on the team, we had a chance...we had hope. It's truly been a damn honor watching you grace the court Timmy...thank you for always giving this team, this city your all!

Sad to see him go, Always felt he could play on forever. Always a steady force, but you could see the screws coming off the wagon this past year offensively and then physically he just failed in mid january....

Remember him coming into the league. Still remember him against the Knicks in 99 Finals. Soo many great memories. I hope he finds as much success in retirement that he found during his playing career.

I haven't really seen anybody discussing his place on the all-time list on Twitter(not referring to irrelevant fans, but rather known and respectable media/players)..

It has mostly been discussing the post-Jordan rankings and where Duncan ranks among players in his generation..it has pretty much all been Duncan<Lebron, but > Kobe and Shaq..

Sad to see him go. But if he still has lingering injuries, it's the right move. He was playing great for most of last season.

Hope the Spurs reward him with a VP job with a big salary because he played well below market average for many years.

I'll never forget going to the Salt Lake Summer League and watching Tim Duncan play his first summer league game as a Spur agains the Utah Jazz. A lot of media have misrepresented that game over the years saying that Tim flopped. He scored like 20 points and had like 10 rebounds, but he did foul out. That said, it was easy to see that he was going to be special if you looked at his game and not the scoreboard. And as good as he looked in that game, I had no idea how great he would become.

Watching Game 5 against the Knicks right now is making me just realize how much Duncan accomplished in his career. Seeing him in his second year just dominate in the Finals for his first time just makes your realize just how special players like him are. It just makes me sad but proud that this man, this player was in our city and our team for as many years as he gave us. There will never be another Tim Duncan. He brought our franchise from contenders to a powerhouse. He did that and without him, I shudder to think what our city and our franchise would be today.

So many years, so many memories. Thanks TD.

How fast, fluid, agile he was.. The lift on his shots.. Man, truly amazing. I blame Shaq for robbing Tim of a few more super years of his prime. Tim started putting on weight to be able to defend Shaq and some of the other bigs in the middle and that probably wrecked his knees and body to support that extra weight. There was really no surprise that once he started to lose weight and slim up that he had a resurgence.

Amazing how NBA ready he was when he came out of college and considering he hadn't played ball his whole life. And not just ready but dominant.

Still among the most dizzying accomplishments of Tim's career is the fact that was deservedly First Team All-NBA as a rookie, in a league with Malone, Barkley, Shaq, Robinson, Ewing, Olajuwon, Webber, Mutombo, Mourning, and a few others were all playing at high levels.

I don't know that any rookie since has made even Third Team All-NBA.

One of my favorite, but underrated Tim moments that epitomizes who he is: When Baynes was hammered drunk and TMZ was outside waiting on them and Baynes starts to talk to them. Tim yanks Baynes and just tells him "Shut the f*ck up" :lol

Got my house vandalized last night and not even that can take me away from crying about TD retiring :cry

I thought he had one more year in him but the knee didn't respond :depressed

So, is he retiring from the HEB commercials too? Or will there be at least one honorary appearance?

Wow. Surprised how poorly MJ grades out on D. Same as Barkley (who was known to be lazy on that end).

Mj was overrated on defense but come on any list that has malone 3rd and Mj 12th is suspect tbh.

Yeah and props to KG too - He backs up his smack with real play. But clearly, TD is the best. It hurts.
