Damn this tribute from KA is on level with LDN's.

teamslowmo (https://www.instagram.com/teamslowmo/)THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING BIG DAWG! The best teamate I've ever played with hands down. Thank you for showing me how to be a pro. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for being the first one on the floor in August every morning after winning your 5th championship at 38 yrs old. Thank you for diving on the floor in a regular season game at 39 years old. Yes a HOFer with 5 rings wanted a loose ball more than 9 other guys in their NBA prime. Thank you for those simple words that meant so much to me at 4am when we got back from Chicago. Just a quick "we got another one coming up buddy" literally shifted my whole mindset on how to handle bad games. Shows how great of a leader Timmy was, saw i was down after a bad game and used few words too boost my spirit up to the sky. That was the greatest car ride home at 4am for me ever! Half of these things im thinking Timmy for he prolly wouldnt even know but impacted me so much because his actions led by example these last two years. What an honor to call you my teamate. THANK YOU BIG DAWG!
:cry
Wow huge impact on a young players development. I knew about Danny's post and it made me tear up, but Kyle was marginal his first season and barely getting a chance in that Chicago game, I remember it. Team lost that game. The bench didn't show up. Kyle played barely 5 minutes and I bet he got a tongue lashing with the rest of the bench for not showing up in that game.... I can only hope that our team has someone to have this kind of leadership when we are all of a sudden going to get this young!! The aspect that they will miss the most is the leadership he showed, how caring he was with teammates, even end of the bench teammates, young teammates. Who is going to do that now? Who's going to encourage Dijon, Bertans, Kyle, Simmons, LJC and co? It's about to get rough. I don't think Kawhi is that guy, and neither is Tony.... It has to be Manu I am guessing. Otherwise it will be a huge generational gap.

Don't know if this was shared, but I've read tens of articles and tributes over the last few days from different sources (ESPN, CBS, SAEN, Yahoo, etc..), and this for me is one of the standout articles by Sports Illustrated's Rob Mahoney. Brilliant, and shows why many consider him a top 5 talent all time.

There may be another Jordan. There may be another Lebron. There may be another Jabbar. There may be another Magic. When it comes to the combination of talent, leadership, humility, class there will almost certainly never be another Duncan.

Agreed... These guys just aren't raised the way TD is. Being from St. Croix too, I bet that played a part in his laid back demeanor.

You're probably right. But I suppose there might be some players who idolized Duncan and hopefully took something away from watching his game. Maybe realize that you can be just as intimidating by letting your game speak for you.
Although for that to work, you have to absolutely be a dominant player.

some great quotes in here-

http://www.nba.com/2016/news/features/david_aldridge/07/18/morning-tip-teammates-opponents-reflect-on-tim-duncan/index.html?ls=iref:nbahpt6d

Here's a couple:

Gary Neal (played with Duncan 2010-13): The most memorable thing about Tim was his sarcasm. He is very sarcastic. It was in 2010; I had just signed with the Spurs. We were still in preseason in Mexico City playing the Clippers. I was having a terrible three months after summer league, couldn't make a shot in the workouts, in the pick up games and even in preseason.
So at the end of the game we're down two. Pop lets Manu draw up a play. Manu draws up a play for me to take the last shot! And Tim was always the last person to shake your hand at the end of the timeout and he told me "Don't miss." At the time it didn't sink in because I was new and didn't really know the fellas that well, but he was being sarcastic as hell!! So after the game I was so excited that I went up and thanked Manu for drawing the play up and went to Timmy and Tony and thanked them and Timmy looked at me and said 'Don't worry, G. You might be around for a while.' Just a good-hearted fun ass dude... the best teammate too man. You wouldn't believe how humble and approachable he always was.
Garrett Temple (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/garrett_temple/?iref:nba:story_page:playerfile) (played with Duncan 2009-11): I was always a guy in the gym very early, especially because I was trying to stick in the NBA at the time. TD amazed me because EVERY DAY, whether we had practice, or shootaround, he was so consistent and doing his workout (jump hooks, bank shots, running hooks, etc...) on the gun every morning a certain amount of time before practice. I couldn't believe that no matter what the situation. You could count on TD (a future first ballot Hall of Famer) getting his work in at the exact same goal, at the exact same time. It was amazing.

Brent Barry: And every teammate that has had Tim Duncan falls into the trap of taking him for granted. We know the league has done it for many years and we know the fans have done it for many years but to think as players that we could ever do that might just say a little something about how much Tim cares about himself and concerns himself with others.

I implore people to listen to the subtleties of their compliments to what Tim Duncan is and what he's represented during his career. But I would also tell you that there are plenty of us who can never put into words the quiet greatness he represents. The inner peace of knowing himself. And the complete confidence one can have in saying there will be no one like him again.

You, sir, are amazing. I can't tell you how long I've been waiting to see this particular game footage. I wish I could find that entire series. Watching those two go at it was just an absolute joy. The two best players at their positions, obvious animosity, and mutual respect. Individual rivalry at its best.

I remember when Duncan seemed like he was in decline with his knee and Gasol finally felt like he had Duncan where he wanted him and he toyed with Duncan and talked shit. That was before '11 when the Spurs were making the comeback that no one in the media gave respect to, that finally led to the 'ship in '14. Ill root for Gasol, I mostly like him but will always remember that so cant totally like him.

I highly doubt that...he will be around. I don't expect him to take a job in the organization like coach or assistant or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he takes up an role in ownership down the line and shows up to the occasional games ala David Robinson.

If they had nutted up and played like they could they face the Spurs in 2014 but they went and lost to Portland :lol. Spurs would have beaten them in 5 games, quite easily. That was the year to face them :(

4-1 Spurs in 2013-15, this year who knows but they would have won it. The Spurs have kicked their asses though the last few years ;). Those 2015 games you mention were GREAT, remember Clyde whining after that game for a long time for a foul?

Reflecting on Duncan's personality, impact and legacy

http://www.nba.com/2016/news/features/david_aldridge/07/18/morning-tip-teammates-opponents-reflect-on-tim-duncan/

I especially loved Barry's quote:

Speaking of Barry, my most memorable moment of him is 05 Finals. He's got the ball, he and TD are running down the court and he's so anxious/nervous that he passes the ball to Duncan at MID-COURT - I'm thinking - Dude, you're the guard, what in the world are you doing passing to a big man there - he just couldn't wait to get rid of the ball :lol

Popovich has told Duncan to come around, to be here, to do what he wants. “If he wants to go on a scouting trip, fine. If he wants his own station in training camp, he has it. He’s in charge. He can tell me exactly what he wants to do. But I’m not paying him a penny.”

Reminded that Duncan will still be receiving Spurs checks this season on what is the final year of his contract, Popovich laughed again.

“Oh, I forgot.”

Most in the organization think Duncan will eventually join the franchise in a full-time capacity. They guess he won’t coach but will instead focus on personnel. Duncan has long been intrigued by the methods that Popovich and Buford use to identify talent.

Report: Tim Duncan expected to join Spurs front office

Legend has been around the team and could join the team in a personnel capacity

Tim Duncan, predictably, has been a ghost since he retired this summer. He did one televised interview (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/watch-tim-duncan-gives-lengthy-post-retirement-interview/) with a friend, and beyond that, he has been gone. No commercials, no TV appearances, he's not announcing his new venture capital firm or doing media appearances. He has just slid into the the enormous shadow his game left upon the NBA and probably hung out with his kids a lot.

That's for the public, though.

The Spurs, they get to keep him. Duncan has been around the team, the San Antonio Express-News reports, and many inside the organization expect him to take a personnel position with the team.

They still have him around, though. Duncan hasn't been in the Spurs' practice facility every day this summer, but he was there this week. He hits the weight machines, does some shooting, hangs around the guys.

Most in the organization think Duncan will eventually join the franchise in a full-time capacity. They guess he won't coach but will instead focus on personnel. Duncan has long been intrigued by the methods that Popovich and Buford use to identify talent.

Duncan has at times disagreed with their decisions only to be proven wrong. He's curious why.

Source: Hole in his gut, Spurs' Popovich moves on - San Antonio Express-News (http://www.expressnews.com/sports/columnists/buck_harvey/article/Hole-in-his-gut-Spurs-Popovich-moves-on-9222728.php).

This is what having a great player so tied to one franchise does for you. He becomes tied to the future even while he's a pillar of the past. Duncan just being around puts guys on notice.

They'll have Duncan to learn from, to get advice from, and more than anything, to live up to his standard of excellence and professionalism. The Spurs built their culture around Duncan, now they can use his legacy and quiet presence to sustain it.

http://sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/r/2016/09/16/969db383-3093-4b14-990d-cc0146ca9215/resize/670x377/465ae8de9539a6532160ebec6844a2ed/popduncan2.jpg

You walk in as a brash rookie and meet five-time NBA champion, former MVP, future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer, Greatest Power Forward of All Time Tim Duncan, and that will show you where you stand in the ranks of the game right quick.

Duncan being around will make it easier for Gregg Popovich, too, to help him make the transition. It will make it easier on Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard. It'll be easier on the coaches, and when he's shown at games, it'll be good for fans.

Duncan's departure will not be easy, but he'll at least be there to help ease the pain of the separation, and if nothing else, this story tells something we all know but it's important to say: Tim Duncan will always be a Spur.

This is a pretty good read that covers the rise and fall of Robert Swift. I placed this here for this story:
Still, life is not so bad. Ichiro Suzuki hears of Swift’s Japanese roots and asks to meet him. Swift buys a kick-ass truck, eats like a king. And he gets to play against his idols. The first time he guards Tim Duncan, Swift pushes up on him on the block, trying to impress him.

“Nah, nah, don’t do that,” Duncan says.
Swift is surprised. Duncan never talks to opponents. And yet...
“The ball’s going to swing to the other side, get position,” Duncan continues.
The ball swings. Swift follows orders, shuffling his feet across the lane, staying behind Duncan.
“No, further up,” Duncan says. Swift takes a half-step.
“No, a little higher, don’t let me duck in on you.”
Swift complies.
“All right, now come back,” Duncan says, moving across the lane. “The ball’s about to be swung back, but it’s not coming to me this time so don’t worry about it. But now you know how to play it.”
With that, Duncan plays hard the rest of the game, but the moment sticks with Swift. He hopes to be that kind of veteran some day

Freakin Duncan, my fave player all time & the reason i started following the Spurs 100%. Before Duncan, I followed all Texas teams casually, but Duncan changed that for me. I still kinda pull for the Rockets (maybe 3 or 4 games/yr depending on their opponent) & for the Mavs (anywhere from 20-30 games/yr cuz of Dirk), but my loyalty is & has been 100% to the Spurs since Duncan. His selflessness & heart for the game, the team, & players in general is something that we were privileged as Spurs fans to witness night in/night out with front row seats for 19 straight years. There will NEVER be another ambassador in this league like Duncan, but if somehow someone comes along & is able to do only half of what Duncan did for this league, the league will be lucky it struck gold twice

I started following the Spurs back in '87? '88? I'm a bit under an influence... but let me digress... I started following the Spurs because of Terry Cummings because of his skin condition. I thought he was a "hero". So naive a thought, but... whatevs. That got me into b-ball. Then Dave and Sean joined the next year...

I thought he was a "hero". So naive a thought, but... whatevs. That got me into b-ball. Then Dave and Sean joined the next year...

I casually started following basketball in the late 80s (also around '87 or '88) & remember Magic's Lakers against Isaiah's Pistons in the Finals. My mom would be watching her novelas & during commercial breaks my brothers or I would put it on the game. Later came Jordan's Bulls & I kinda started following the Rockets & Spurs. I always thought "what the heck is up with that Dallas team? They really suck!," but naturally I was always pro-Texas teams. Then Robinson & Sean came along & got me into watching the Spurs, but Olajuwan/Thorp/Kenny/Horry/Ellie (i.e. Clutch City) got me cheering on them since they brought Texas our first championship.. but i always wished for Robinson/****** to get theirs. I'd pull for Spurs to win & then for the Rockets to win. Then Robinson got hurt & the Spurs won the 1st pic in the lottery. I had never seen any games of Duncan in college, but i saw the highlights. I thought he might be pretty good in the NBA (LOL @me), but he just didn't seem flashy enough (again, LOL @me) for me to get excited. But once i started following the Spurs in Duncan's first season, which wasn't until like the 6th or 7th game, I was hooked! To see this young man just take it to these established superstars & dominate them in his rookie season (i.e. Karl Malone), & in the way he did it really quietly, made me a fan of him & this team. At the end of games his stats would be 25/14/4/3 & I'd think "When did he get all these #s?"...

Anyways, long story short, I'm glad he ended up on the Spurs & not any other team haha. I'd probably hate the crap out of Timmy while he was winning titles for another team- plus I'd prolly be a Rockets fan, smh

Hopefully right after the all star break he'll be back. Hopefully.

He cannot play for the Spurs this season due to new cba rules when a team trades or waves you. It isn't happening.

Why did the Spurs waive Duncan then? What was the commensurate advantage?

About 4M in additional cap space that was needed to sign Gasol.

It's very murky. There isn't a precedent against it, and it's possible that the league would look the other way for a player of Tim's magnitude. But I'd consider it cap manipulation if it happened.

Yeah, I remember the excitement and electricity back then. It was a great time for the Spurs and TD. I was real excited after that game. It was great to be a Spurs fan as the potential and possibilities were very high. Talking about it now, I kinda want to go back to that time.

Seeing the lack of effort from Aldridge and Gasol at times throughout the game doesn't put a smile on my face.

Kool I know you are hardcore Kobe fan but this is even weak by your standards. First off Kobe's wife is no longer attractive after all those plastic surgeries. She is expired goods. Second of all having daughters is just a waste. Your basically giving birth to future whores when you have daughters. Just a lose lose situation for Kobe.
