Gotta disagree. Not trying to hedge or have cognitive dissonance, but the Dodgers are pretty weak in the lineup after Puig. Astros have no weaknesses aside from McCann (Their 7th/8th hitter is Marwin Gonzalez with a 900 OPS, meanwhile we have Forshite). We probably have the slight pitching edge.

Pulled Hill way too early. Should've left him in a couple more innings. The WS/Postseason is a different beast and to expect Jensen to go 6 outs (not in an elimination setting) was too much. This is when the analytic side costs you too much. Verlander is mortal after all. Did either team lose a game at home this postseason? Going to find out in Houston if they can remain undefeated. I highly doubt it. But for a fan of baseball, last night's game was all you could ask for. First time the vaunted Dodger bullpen got knocked. Though Houston's is really, really shaky. Good series so far.

Those elotes Markazi posted look too much. I'm a purist and my elote has to be simple. But man, whenever I'm at Dodger stadium, my caloric intake is terrible. I try and stay away from the Dodger Dogs, but they do have one dog that has a complete nacho on top. I share that usually with the lady friend. But That elote looks too garish.

Yep. These analytic calculator heads need to understand that post-season baseball is more about the human element than anything else. I don't give a shit how X did against lefties after the 7th inning against a lineup with a low chase rate on sliders. Post-season baseball is an independent event from regular season baseball, and the eye test should reign supreme.

Post-season baseball is an independent event from regular season baseball, and the eye test should reign supreme. They interviewed Roberts today on the local station and he pulled Hill thinking that it would be ok to tax the bullpen because today was a travel day. I think that was way too steeped in the analytic side and not in the take the series by the jugular aspect that may cost the Dodgers. However, I don't think Houston will sweep the 3 at home. I just think that extending Jensen and not giving Watson more than 4 pitches really cost them. But, as a fan of the sport, the game was brilliant. Even if both bullpens were shaky at best. The Dodgers were down to Wood/Darvish after McCarthy, so in a sense, it may have been ok that they didn't burn those two. I'd be more concerned with the star power of the Astros coming alive. Now they return home with some confidence. This series looks to be a good one. Hopefully, it'll top the 7 game gem of last year's Fall Classic. I could see this going the full 7.

Indeed. The book on Hill is that teams shell him on the 3rd trip around, but you could just tell Houston was having trouble with his curveball. They were desperate and, in basketball parlance, "chucking" bad shots by overswinging at everything. Even Altuve was up there hacking. Maeda, who is another crafty pitcher, also had them flummoxed and he was taken out too quickly. Then they settled against Morrow and Jansen, primarily fastball pitchers. Jansen also made a terrible pitch to Marwin on an 0-2 count.

Other tactical errors were not getting Bellinger in from 3rd with one out. "Analytics" hates the bunt, but if there was ever a time for a squeeze or contact play, that was it, since Joc is a strikeout machine I'm not really trusting to put the ball-in-play in that situation.

The quality of the Doyers' pitching negates it. Meanwhile, your batters just need to hit one of the many bad pitches from Houston or just let them walk in a few runs.

Yep. Not entirely on him, though. He does what the FO calculator heads tell him. Same with his approach to situational hitting. That back-to-back strikeout situation last game when the Dodgers had a man on 3rd with one out will forever piss me off. Teach these assholes how to fuckin' bunt and hit for contact. But the "analytics say" to swing away since it's the higher value over 600908908 games.

It's like the Dodgers switched identities with the Astros this game. Dodgers were dinger balling last 2 games while the Astros manufactured, while the Astros dinger balled this game and the Dodgers (finally) made the adjustment in the latter innings and went with the pitches thrown, especially Bellinger. Two beautiful ABs there.

Kershaw is basically an evolved version of Alex Wood, so yeah, if he's on point, it's going to be tough for the Stros, who were flummoxed by Wood all night. I can't count on it after all the horror shows through the years, and that Astros lineup is still frightening.

The Astros outside that predictable thrashing of Darvish have been awful on offense. Like I said earlier, Altuve has been choking massively and Correa hasn't been much better. They've been extremely bad with RISP and seemingly can only score runs off homers. It's been said before but teams that rely on the long ball to win don't do well in the postseason and right now the Astros are trying to do exactly that.

Nah, this was a choke by Houston. All the momentum in th world coming into Game 3, and outside a predictable drubbing of Darvish in one inning the Houston offense has turned into a swing fest. While the pitching has been fine outside Giles and now Keuchel, the team as a whole has looked like the moment is way too big for them. Shame too since I'm not confident the Astros can get back to this point anytime soon with the Yankees looking poised to win the next few years.

It's incredible. And it ALWAYS starts the same way when he melts down. Usually a leadoff walk, next batter he falls behind in the count, batter invariably gets basehit. Next batter hits dinger or keeps rally going. That pitch to Gurriel was the worst pitch of his carer. Do not dick around with fastballs against a free swinger. Gurriel was in launch mode no matter what pitch was thrown. He would've swung at a cricket bowl there.

We had a halftime lead basically and then just got blown out in the 2nd half by the better team on this night (also wonder if the complaints about the WS baseballs are valid. Don't care, though. I don't know about that. Is there precedent for suspending over something like this? In the dugout, caught on camera?

Suspending him next year defines the incident as suspension-worthy but makes MLB look wishy washy for delaying it.

Fine him a good chunk and establish that as the punishment, it's much more easily forgotten next year.

A lot of the complaints about the balls aren't necessarily that they're juiced, but they're slicker, and the seams are lower, reducing pitch control and movement, especially on sliders. This game just doesn't feel right. I hope it's on the up and up.
