More evidence of the Trash's criminal negligent manslaughter

Leaked documents show how Trump White House ‘muzzled’ the CDC’s early COVID-19 warnings

Trump White House (http://rawstory.com/2020/05/science-as-the-enemy-cnns-berman-taken-aback-trumps-latest-rant-about-hydroxychloroquine/) shut down the Centers for Disease Control’s early attempts to sound the alarm about COVID-19’s spread throughout the United States (https://www.rawstory.com/2020/05/leaked-pentagon-memo-undercuts-trumps-covid-19-happy-talk-and-projects-no-vaccine-until-next-summer/).

the documents show how the CDC in early March wanted to issue a public alert for air travelers

about the dangers of flying during the COVID-19 pandemic,

but then the White House delayed issuing it by a week,

which CNN describes as “crucial time lost when about 66,000 European travelers were streaming into American airports every day.”

Six current CDC employees told CNN that this incident was just one of many in which the White House put politics above public safety.

“We’ve been muzzled,”

if we would have acted earlier on what we knew and recommended,

we would have saved lives and money.”

Your post:

Spaceforce good when Obama was POTUS

Implied on context:[Hey Randomguy you think Spaceforce is bad because Trump did it, but "good when Obama" did it, that makes you a hypocrite].

I then pantsed you with a couple of quotes showing I thought it was good when Trump did it, showing you didn't even bother trying to figure out what I actually thought, before you rushed out like a desperate idiot to try and find some chink in my armor.

You failed.

It amuses me. My post was not a strawman lie, unlike your constant barrage of lies and personal attacks. I can reach back in any thread where you are active and find dozens of examples of strawmen.

Yes it is. You were wrong. I made you move your goalpost three times so you could try to pretend you're right.

You didn't even notice Darrin stopped by to take a shit on you as well. That can only feed your rage.

You were wrong, dude. It's OK. People know you can be wrong. It has happened before and it will happen again. You make it worse when you throw a little hissy fit.

It is kind of bizarre. Constant personal attacks, abusive lies, and when caught in being wrong about things, a total avoidance mechanism, either ignoring it, or outright denying it, or playing to minute semantics "the card says moops".

Intelligence agencies found it impossible to convince Trump that COVID-19 was a serious problem (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/5/21/1946613/-Intelligence-agencies-found-it-impossible-to-convince-Trump-that-COVID-19-was-a-serious-problem)

Trump was getting daily, sometimes hourly, updates from intelligence agencies

warning about the increasing threat of the pandemic for months

—months in which he kept on golfing, holding rallies, and saying it would all just go away “like magic.”

But Trump has found a scapegoat even among the intelligence community.

Shockingly (in a completely unshocking way) that scapegoat is an experienced woman.

Trump has found the finger strength to also direct blame toward

career intelligence analyst Beth Sanner,

who has the most unrewarding job in all of intelligence work — trying to get Donald Trump to listen to his daily briefing.

Saying that

he wasn’t concerned because

Sanner apparently failed to add enough red letters or pictures of scary monsters on his daily briefing sheets

doesn’t address the fact that

there were numerous special meetings and frequent memos across January and February.

Meetings and memos in which Trump was given increasingly dire warnings

by epidemiologists,
scientists,
military strategists,
biodefense experts,
the HHS secretary,
CDC officials, and
intelligence officials who outranked Sanner.

But sure. Trump has focused blame on the woman who failed to come into his office humming the Jaws theme. It’s all her fault.

Trump has focused on a briefing Sanner prepared for January 23 in which Trump claims the virus was presented as “no big deal.”

No big deal except for the fact that this meeting came

five days after he’d already been given a briefing on the unfolding crisis in China and warned about the need to prepare the nation.

That was far from the only time.

Both before and after that January 23 briefing,

Trump was warned repeatedly about the scope of the looming threat (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/11/us/politics/coronavirus-trump-response.html).

And repeatedly, Trump refused to listen.

Instead, he insisted on

downplaying the threat to the public,

bragging about the stock market, and

going on with his frequent golf trips and rallies.

when confronted by information that doesn’t mesh with what he already believed, Trump simply dismisses it out of hand.

It’s a problem so bad, that

intelligence agencies have actually hired consultants

to asks them how they can make their pablum soft enough for Trump’s digestion.

Trump cannot change his mind.

He does not learn.

Once he has an idea in his head, it is the idea, and

can’t be ousted no matter how much expertise is levied, or

how many deaths prove otherwise.

Trump can’t be taught.

He can only be expelled. The sooner the better.

weren't you the one that said evictions can legally take place in 24 hours? By changing the locks?

To put things in perspective, the virus is now known to have an infection fatality rate for most people under 65 that is no more dangerous than driving 13 to 101 miles per day. Even by conservative estimates, the odds of COVID-19 death are roughly in line with existing baseline odds of dying in any given year

On that pivotal day of March 17 he released an essay titled “A fiasco in the making? Trump admin doled out a no-bid $600 million contract for mask-cleaning machines that don't work (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/5/20/1946434/-Trump-admin-doled-out-a-no-bid-600-million-contract-for-mask-cleaning-machines-that-don-t-work)

the FDA approved a machine that disinfected N95 respirator masks, allowing up to 20 uses of a single mask.

Battelle, the company that made the machines, claimed that this process would not degrade the mask’s “performance.”

At the time, reports claimed the machine would cost the government $60 million for 60 machines.

But as NBC News (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-administration-paying-huge-premium-mask-cleaning-machines-which-don-n1210896)reports, that number somehow ballooned to $413 million over the next few days.

By the beginning of May, the cost of these machines was capped at $600 million

“scientists and nurses say the

recycled masks treated by these machines begin to degrade after two or three treatments, not 20,

and the company says its own recent field testing has only confirmed the integrity of the masks for four cycles of use and decontamination.”

nurses and others who have said the machines are a joke and the costs would be exorbitant even if the machines worked as advertised—which they don’t.

A source close to the Mike Pence-led task force told NBC (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/trump-administration-paying-huge-premium-mask-cleaning-machines-which-don-n1210896) that

the Trump administration takes big wild swings and

doesn’t care whether or not anything works.

“They’re gambling that they’ll win one time,

and if they don’t they’ll just deflect,

which is what we see inside all the time.”

Katie Porter of California has presented the American public with receipts showing (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/4/8/1935508/-America-last-Rep-Porter-has-receipts-showing-Trump-chose-a-quick-buck-over-American-lives) that

the Trump administration allowed companies to export tons of protective equipment and machines during the early months of the spreading pandemic.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/5/20/1946434/-Trump-admin-doled-out-a-no-bid-600-million-contract-for-mask-cleaning-machines-that-don-t-work?detail=emaildksp (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/5/20/1946434/-Trump-admin-doled-out-a-no-bid-600-million-contract-for-mask-cleaning-machines-that-don-t-work?detail=emaildksp)

$1M / machine? How many new N95 masks, one-time disposal, would that buy? 300,000? 500,000?

Trash expects $10Ms of the taxpayers' $400M for Batelle to come back to his campaign.

Trump planning to strip pandemic response from health officials, and give it to State Department

Dr. Deborah Birx has proven herself a loyal Trump lieutenant;

ever willing to stand in the background as Trump urges Americans to take a dangerous off-label drug,

attacks the CDC for trying to provide guidelines for safe conduct of business, or

openly attacks the results of scientific studies.

Birx willingness to be the Kellyanne of medical advice, :lol

always up to twist the facts to fit the latest Trump statement, hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Because there’s a plan on the table

to hand over global pandemic response to Birx and

create a whole new health organization …

inside the State Department.

It would see the international role currently held by USAID stripped away.

Instead, power would be centralized in the safely inspector-general-free State Department,

with Birx as the expected head of this new division.

this new operation would form a sort of home-grown alternative.

Only this version would be completely under the thumb of Pompeo and Trump.

It would be this new faux WHO that

determined the distribution of vaccines,

and managed the response to any outbreak.
And they have a name for it: the President’s Response to Outbreaks. Otherwise known as PRO. :lol

WASHINGTON —Sharply disagreeing with critics of Donald J. Trump’s weekend visit to the Trump National Golf Club,

Dr. Anthony Fauci has urged Trump to remain on the golf course until the pandemic is over.

“The people who are giving you a hard time about your golf trip are just haters,” Fauci told Trump on Sunday.

“It’s in the best interest of everyone in the country that you keep golfing, Mr. President.” “Please,”

Trump was reportedly surprised by the doctor’s words of encouragement, especially because

the golf trip had limited the President’s ability to communicate with Fauci, the Centers for Disease Control, and other scientists involved in the coronavirus response.

A closer look at Trump COVID contractors reveals

inexperience,

fraud accusations and

a weapons dealer operating out of someone’s house

A firm set up by a former telemarketer who once settled federal fraud charges for $2.7 million.

A vodka distributor accused in a pending lawsuit of overstating its projected sales.

An aspiring weapons dealer operating out of a single-family home.

These three privately held companies are part of the new medical supply chain,

offered a total of almost $74 million by the federal government

to find and rapidly deliver vital protective equipment and COVID-19 testing supplies across the U.S.

While there’s no evidence that they obtained their deals through political connections,

none of the three had to bid against competing firms.

One has already lost its contract for lack of performance;

it’s unclear if the other two can fulfill their orders on time, or at all.

They are among about

345 first-time federal contractors promised atleast $1.8 billion

in deals by the Trump administration since March, representing about 13% of total government spending on pandemicrelated contracts of $13.8 billion

Like the three companies, many of the newcontractors have no experience acquiring medical products.

An Obama-era plan to protect medical workers in a pandemic was thwarted under Trump

Obama’s administration left behind a comprehensive pandemic game plan (https://couriernewsroom.com/2020/04/14/obama-prepared-for-a-potential-pandemic-trump-gutted-his-work/) that included a 69-page playbook (https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/25/trump-coronavirus-national-security-council-149285).

But Trump’s administration abandoned those Obama-era recommendations.

On top of that, National Public Radio’s Brian Mann is reporting that

Trump’s administration, in 2017,

“stopped work on new federal regulations that

would have forced the health care industry

to prepare for an airborne infectious disease pandemic such as COVID-19.”

“If that rule had gone into effect, then every hospital,

every nursing home would essentially have to have a plan

where they made sure they had enough respirators and they were prepared for this sort of pandemic.”

just one way of many in which these policies can go wrong with disastrous consequences.

Many of these negative consequences may not emerge until years later.

NPR reviewed the records confirming that Trump’s team abandoned the regulatory proposal made by under Obama.

the U.S. still has “no specific federal regulations protecting health care workers from deadly airborne pathogens such as influenza, tuberculosis or the coronavirus.”

“H1N1 made it very clear OSHA did not have adequate standards for airborne transmission and contact transmission, and so, we began writing a standard to do that.”

in the spring of 2017, Trump’s team “formally stripped OSHA’s airborne infectious disease rule from the regulatory agenda,”

Florida forced medical examiners to stop reporting death results, and now we know why

Back in April, it became clear that Florida was intentionally hiding a list of daily deaths (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/4/29/1941318/-Deaths-from-COVID-19-are-being-highly-underreported-and-in-some-cases-that-appears-to-be-deliberate) that had previously been compiled by county medical examiners.

Since that time, those examiners, as well as hospitals and local officials, have complained that the number of COVID-19 deaths being reported in Governor Ron DeSantis regular updates,

doesn’t match what they’re seeing in their areas.

Last week, the scientist behind Florida’s COVID-19 dashboard was fired (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/5/20/1946377/-Florida-Gov-DeSantis-accused-of-changing-COVID-19-numbers-to-make-reopening-seem-more-reasonable)after she says she refused to alter numbers as she was told.

it looks like DeSantis has been taking COVID-19 deaths out of one column and inserting them into another.

Even before the state took what had always been public information and began to hide it behind a newfound concern for privacy,

there was evidence that DeSantis was covering up COVID-19 in the “Sunshine State.”

the Sun Sentinel (https://www.sun-sentinel.com/coronavirus/fl-ne-coronavirus-florida-pneumonia-flu-deaths-spike-20200417-lkel6rlik5blhd5zdktkrxhzze-story.html) warned that there was a spike in “pneumonia deaths” indicating that COVID-19 was already present and active in the state at a time when the official test results were showing a handful of cases.

Even though flu cases were winding down in mid-March, pneumonia deaths had continued to head straight up.

“It is likely that they missed some COVID-19 deaths and reported them as respiratory deaths.”

However, while it might have been possible that deaths in March and early April were missed simply because state officials weren’t keyed to look for COVID-19 deaths, that certainly wasn’t true after that day.

paper pointed out that DeSantis “continues to keep Floridians in the dark about what is—and isn’t—happening in the state’s 3,800 nursing homes and assisted-living facilities.”

the “whack-a-mole approach” to dealing with nursing homes was failing.

Instead, the percentage of deaths in those facilities was continuing to grow along with a rising tide of new cases.

As the firing of Dr. Rebekah Jones made clear, Florida has only continued to hide and alter more information over time.

Florida is one of several states where a particular category of deaths that have happened in 2020 represents a sharp increase over past years. That category is deaths due to “flu or pneumonia.”

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/5/28/1948035/-More-evidence-emerges-that-DeSantis-has-been-deliberately-under-reporting-COVID-19-deaths-in-Florida?detail=emaildkre (https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/5/28/1948035/-More-evidence-emerges-that-DeSantis-has-been-deliberately-under-reporting-COVID-19-deaths-in-Florida?detail=emaildkre)

Hopefully your hunch is confirmed, as it would be a bit of good news.

WHO’s new announcement about COVID-19 was a huge mistake

experts are saying was a gigantic mistake.

The announcement addressed this question:

Can people infected with COVID-19 who don’t display any symptoms still transmit the infection to others?

For months now, public health officials have said yes, and

this fact has driven many of the extreme measures countries across the world have taken in response.

But in a CNBC (https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/08/asymptomatic-coronavirus-patients-arent-spreading-new-infections-who-says.html?__source=twitter%7Cmain) article :lol :lol of course, back to work!

published Monday reported WHO officials suggesting at a recent briefing in Geneva that

transmission from people without symptoms is “very rare.”

It seemed to suggest to some — erroneously, it’s now clear — that social distancing is not nearly as important as has been assumed.

A CNBC :lol :lol tweet about the story initially conveyed a much stronger message than even was WHO officials explicitly said, that

asymptomatic people don’t spread the virus. :lol

it seems WHO’s discussion of “asymptomatic” transmission of the virus

focuses on a narrow subset of people who never have symptoms, or have very mild symptoms.

The problem is it’s impossible, at first, to tell these people apart from the group that is pre-symptomatic — those that have been infected but have not yet developed symptoms.

And there’s extensive evidence to believe that these people can transmit the virus to others,

which explains why it can spread so easily.

People who haven’t experienced their symptoms yet are more likely to be out and about, allowing the virus to spread more widely.

“Asymptomatic persons seem to account for approximately 40% to 45% of SARS-CoV-2 infections, and

they can transmit the virus to others for an extended period, perhaps longer than 14 days.”

“We haven’t seen a lot of evidence of fully asymptomatic people transmitting to many others (though admittedly these tracing studies are hard to do).

Pre-symptomatic transmission, on the other hand, is why SARS-CoV-2 has been harder to control than SARS-CoV,”

“Abundant data now shows that

WHO’s new announcement, he said, “is going to mislead many people and is based on flawed evidence due to how it was collected.”

“an irresponsible statement even though it was based on legitimate observations.”

WHO, ... wasn’t recommending people change their behavior based off these findings.

the damage may already be done. :lol Thanks, CNBC

A dangerous new chapter of the outbreak:

Every state for itself

Cash-strapped cities and states trying to create testing, tracing and public awareness campaigns from scratch are desperate for federal support.

Leaving the nation's coronavirus fight to individual states has created gaping holes in the public health response that have allowed the infection rate to soar and death rates to rise once again.

While countries like

New Zealand and Germany have taken a unified national approach to fighting the virus

— and are enjoying the fruits of a successful mitigation strategy

— the Trump administration’s federalist philosophy has helped create chaos across the South and West.

“Every governor is out there on his or her own working to build the same programs that are being built next door,”

“The federal government’s efforts range from a little bit of backup to not even being present.”

“Until we control this virus as a nation, the economy can’t fully recover. Where is the national plan?”

“How can you have national success without having a national plan?”

“How do you fight the worst pandemic in 100 years without a coordinated strategy?”

public health experts say much more federal support and leadership are needed to bring the outbreak under control — and keep it that way.

“We shut down the country for three months and we could have used that time for all kinds of planning and preparing, and we did not use it at all,” :lol iow, shutdown WASTED.

the virus is spreading northward into the heartland and industrial Midwest, erasing the progress made in March, April and May while the country was locked down.

Pence, have warned that the government’s Strategic National Stockpile is only a stopgap —

and that states themselves are primarily responsible for securing masks, gowns, gloves and chemicals for testing on the open market.

the lack of stronger federal oversight has made it hard to maintain some of those gains.

labs say they are having trouble getting basic supplies.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown says her state's testing capacity has been overwhelmed by the recent surge in infections

the federal government’s failure to fully use the Defense Production Act to increase available supplies and coordinate their distribution has put states like Washington in the “horrible position” of competing against one another

The testing problems are also hampering the country’s scattered and overwhelmed contact tracing efforts.

“You need federal leadership, and that’s been lacking,”

Testing and contact tracing are the cornerstones of the test-trace-isolate strategy that governments have used to thwart infectious disease outbreaks since the 19th century.

the shortage of tracers is allowing the state’s outbreak to spiral out of control.

the lack of coordinated national coronavirus messaging has been compounded in states like Texas where governors, following Trump’s lead, took a laissez faire approach until cases skyrocketed.

“There’s just been a leadership void at the federal level,”

“We have pushed everything down to the states and

then conservative states, like Texas, have just pushed all that decision-making down to the local level. …

Every day that we go with a crisis and without a plan is another day lost.”

Trump wanted to ‘slow’ coronavirus testing —

and is now trying to block testing funding from stimulus bill

Trash falsely believes that COVID-19 testing is the cause of the spread of coronavirus,

instead of a measure of reality.

“When you do testing to that extent, you’re going to find more people.

You’re going to find more cases.

So I said to my people slow the testing down please,”

“If we didn’t do testing, we’d have no cases,”

“The Trump administration is trying to block billions of dollars for states to conduct testing and contact tracing in the upcoming coronavirus relief bill,

“The administration is also

trying to block billions of dollars that GOP senators want to allocate for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and

billions more for the Pentagon and State Department to address the pandemic at home and abroad,”

“The administration’s posture has angered some GOP senators,

the officials said, and some lawmakers are trying to push back and ensure that the money stays in the bill,”

the conflict between Trump administration officials and Senate Republicans on money for testing and other priorities is creating a major complication

even before bipartisan negotiations get under way.

White House objects to Senate GOP push for more CDC money for coronavirus testing and tracing

Washington, DC (CNN)The White House is pushing back against Senate GOP requests to significantly ramp up funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for coronavirus contact tracing and testing, a position that puts them at odds with lawmakers from both parties amid the surge of Covid-19 cases now paralyzing parts of the country.

Some Senate Republicans are pushing for more money for the efforts in the next round of stimulus spending, but the White House argues that there is sufficient funding still remaining from the March stimulus law, a source with direct knowledge of the matter told CNN on Saturday.

So much bungling, so hard to sum up.

So we pretty much know that the snakeoil doesn't work. Or maybe demon seed does?
Trump trots out a real nutter as proof his snakeoil works.

Donald Trump: "I think it's under control."
Interviewer: "How? A thousand Americans are dying a day."
Donald Trump: "They are dying. That's true. And you — it is what it is."

Fun thing about the Trump's presidency is that there is a vast pile of easy counter examples to any bad thing that Republicans can run against just about any Democrat.

"X is bad"

"you didn't say X was bad when Trump did it, here are a bunch of examples"

Makes it a lot easier out point out the hypocrisy.

The emails are a really good example, because Jared/Ivanka and Trump himself are all using unsecured phones and servers to communicate.

The Administration disbands the White House pandemic response team.

July 2019

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) epidemiologist embedded in China’s disease control agency left her post, and the Administration decided to eliminate the role.

October 2019

“Currently, there are insufficient funding sources designated for the federal government to use in response to a severe influenza pandemic.” [Crimson Contagion exercise findings]

January 22

“We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.”

January 24

Trump praises China’s handling of the coronavirus: “China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!”

January 30

"The lack of immune protection or an existing cure or vaccine would leave Americans defenseless in the case of a full-blown coronavirus outbreak on US soil,...This lack of protection elevates the risk of the coronavirus evolving into a full-blown pandemic, imperiling the lives of millions of Americans.” [Memo from Trump Trade Advisor Peter Navarro]

February 2

“We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.”

February 10

“I think the virus is going to be—it’s going to be fine.”

February 10

“Looks like by April, you know in theory when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.”

February 24

“The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… Stock Market starting to look very good to me!”

February 25

“CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.”

February 25

“I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”

February 26

“The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”

February 26

“We're going very substantially down, not up.”

February 26

“Well, we're testing everybody that we need to test. And we're finding very little problem. Very little problem.”

February 26

"This is a flu. This is like a flu."

February 27

“It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.”

February 28

“We're ordering a lot of supplies. We're ordering a lot of, uh, elements that frankly we wouldn't be ordering unless it was something like this. But we're ordering a lot of different elements of medical.”

March 2

March 2

“A lot of things are happening, a lot of very exciting things are happening and they’re happening very rapidly.”

March 4

“Now, and this is just my hunch, and — but based on a lot of conversations with a lot of people that do this. Because a lot people will have this and it's very mild.”

March 4

“If we have thousands or hundreds of thousands of people that get better just by, you know, sitting around and even going to work — some of them go to work, but they get better.”

March 5

“I NEVER said people that are feeling sick should go to work.”

March 5

“The United States… has, as of now, only 129 cases… and 11 deaths. We are working very hard to keep these numbers as low as possible!”

March 6

“I think we’re doing a really good job in this country at keeping it down… a tremendous job at keeping it down.”

March 6

“You have to be calm. It’ll go away.”

March 6

“Anybody right now, and yesterday, anybody that needs a test gets a test. They’re there. And the tests are beautiful…. the tests are all perfect like the letter was perfect. The transcription was perfect. Right? This was not as perfect as that but pretty good.”

March 6

“I like this stuff. I really get it. People are surprised that I understand it… Every one of these doctors said, ‘How do you know so much about this?’ Maybe I have a natural ability. Maybe I should have done that instead of running for president.”

March 6

“I don't need to have the numbers double because of one ship that wasn't our fault.”

March 7

“When we get into April, in the warmer weather—that has a very negative effect on that, and that type of a virus.”

March 7

“No, I’m not concerned at all.

March 8

“We have a perfectly coordinated and fine-tuned plan at the White House for our attack on CoronaVirus.”

March 9

During a news conference, White House officials say the U.S. will have tested one million people that week and thereafter would complete 4 million tests per week. By the end of the week, the CDC had only completed a paltry 4,000 tests.

March 9

“This blindsided the world.”

March 10

“Just stay calm. It will go away.”

March 11

“It goes away….It’s going away. We want it to go away with very, very few deaths.”

March 12

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, tells Congress that the country does not have sufficient testing. “The system is not really geared to what we need right now,” he said. “That is a failing. Let’s admit it.”

March 12

"You know, you see what's going on. And so I just wanted that to stop as it pertains to the United States. And that's what we've done. We've stopped it."

March 13

“I don’t take responsibility at all.”

March 13

The Atlantic reported that less than 14,000 tests had been done in the ten weeks since the administration had first been notified of the virus, though Mike Pence had promised the week prior that 1.5 million tests would be available by this time.

March 14

“I’d rate it a ten,” [Trump’s rating of his coronavirus response]

March 15

“Relax”

March 15

“This is a very contagious virus. It’s incredible. But it’s something that we have tremendous control over.”

March 16

“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment-try getting it yourselves,”

March 17

“The only thing we haven’t done well is get good press.”

March 17

“I felt like it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic.”

March 20

“I say that you're a terrible reporter, that's what I say. I think it's a very nasty question, and I think it's a very bad signal that you're putting out to the American people." [Response to reporter’s question: "What do you say to Americans who are watching you right now who are scared?"]

March 22

“WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF.”

March 24

“I'm also hopeful to have Americans working again by that Easter - that beautiful Easter day.”

March 24

“We’ve never closed down the country for the flu,” Trump said. “So you say to yourself, what is this all about?”

March 24

“They have to treat us well, also. They can’t say, ‘Oh, gee, we should get this, we should get that.’”

March 25

“The faster we go back, the better it’s going to be.”

March 26

“Congratulations AMERICA!” [On Senate passage of third relief bill]

March 26

“I don't believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You go into major hospitals sometimes, and they’ll have two ventilators. And now all of a sudden they’re saying, ‘Can we order 30,000 ventilators?’”

March 26

“We’ve had a big problem with the young, a woman governor from — you know who I’m talking about — from Michigan,”

March 27

“I love Michigan, one of the reasons we are doing such a GREAT job for them during this horrible Pandemic. Yet your Governor, Gretchen “Half” Whitmer is way in over her head, she doesn’t have a clue. Likes blaming everyone for her own ineptitude!”

March 27

“Mike, don’t call the governor of Washington. You’re wasting your time with him…”

March 27

“I want them to be appreciative. We've done a great job.”

March 27

“We’re doing a great job for the state of Washington and I think the Governor...he’s constantly chirping and I guess complaining would be a nice way of saying it.”

March 29

“Where are the masks going? Are they going out the back door? How do you go from 10,000 to 300,000?”

March 29

“Unfortunately the enemy is death. It's death. A lot of people are dying. So it's very unpleasant.”

March 30

"Stay calm, it will go away. You know it -- you know it is going away, and it will go away, and we're going to have a great victory."

March 30

“I think New York should be fine, based on the numbers that we see, they should have more than enough. I mean, I’m hearing stories that they’re not used or they’re not used right.”

March 30

“I haven’t heard about testing in weeks. We’re testing more than any other nation in the world. We’ve got these great tests...But I haven’t heard about testing being a problem.”

March 30

“We inherited a broken test — the whole thing was broken.”

April 2

“...the Federal Government is merely a back-up for state governments.”

April 3

“I’m feeling good. I just don’t want to be doing -- somehow sitting in the Oval Office behind that beautiful resolute desk, the great resolute desk, I think wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens, I don’t know, somehow I don’t see it for myself. I just don’t. Maybe I’ll change my mind.”

Jared Kushner facilitated the delivery of 45 ventilators from Russia to the US earlier this year, two senior administration officials told The Daily Beast (https://www.thedailybeast.com/jared-kushners-private-channel-with-putins-money-man-kirill-dmitriev).
Those ventilators turned out to be faulty and were cast aside, local officials told the news outlet.
The report said that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's staffers were surprised to see the supplies arriving from Russia.
According to The Daily Beast, Kushner hurried the order along via a personal relationship with the CEO of a Russian sovereign wealth fund that's under US sanctions.

benghazi was something that was investigated 10x over and held over the dems head for over 4 years as a scandal due to stand-down orders, cover-ups, and lies... none of which was ever corroborated.

our national mishandling of the pandemic is ongoing and we are already one of the worst hit places on the planet despite having more time to prepare than our european counterparts. we're well on our way to surpassing even italy in deaths per capita, despite the fact that they got hit very hard very early on with much less information re: how to test/treat. i also dont know of any other country that actually reversed its trend of decreasing cases/deaths only to see them spike again. spain did see an uptick in cases after flattening it, but not nearly to the degree we did, and they havent had a second spike in deaths like we had. we have been uniquely incompetent to that end

the comparison is obviously not apples to apples because one is a contagious disease and one was a terrorist attack. its about the respective outrage, and most conservatives still think that the number of deaths we've faced is fine while they were still fuming over the NOT cover up/scandal of benghazi 4 years later (and probably still are to this day)

Calls to poison control spike in Texas after residents take bleach to combat COVID-19

Months after Donald Trump’s suggestion that disinfectants could be a possible treatment for the novel coronavirus was found false,

some people are still ingesting disinfectants, including bleach.

While this may come as obvious information to some, officials with the North Texas Poison Center at Parkland Hospital

had to remind people in the area not to drink bleach following an increase in cases.
At least 46 cases of bleach ingestion were reported in North Texas since Aug. 1 :lol

The Texas Poison Center Network has seen a significant increase in calls related to ingesting cleaning products.

According to an infographic (https://media.wfaa.com/assets/WFAA/images/c11ec6b6-51aa-4085-9234-c3fa0ecd15d1/c11ec6b6-51aa-4085-9234-c3fa0ecd15d1_1920x1080.png) shared by the network,

The CDC’s testing guidance will make the pandemic worse

Centers for Disease Control updated its COVID-19 advice (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/25/health/covid-19-testing-cdc.html) to recommend fewer people get tested for the virus.

Now, it says (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/testing-overview.html) people without symptoms “do not necessarily need a test,”

even if they were directly exposed or attended a large gathering in a viral hotspot.

If it’s actually followed, the CDC’s advice will kill people.

The agency’s justification for its change is baffling. Admiral Brett Giroir, the US testing leader, said the agency (https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/26/us/politics/coronavirus-testing-trump-cdc.html) is applying guidance for doctors and frontline health workers to everyone in the country.

the value of testing was never letting individual people take big risks.

It’s valuable because it tells people when they need to isolate themselves and

warn their close contacts about exposure,

helping everyone else take the smaller risks that keep society functioning,

President Trump’s new top medical adviser,

Scott Atlas, is urging the White House to embrace a controversial “herd immunity” strategy to combat the pandemic.

It would entail allowing the coronavirus to spread through the population quickly (https://s2.washingtonpost.com/2b4d06d/5f4d5ce29d2fda2c36875497/59740db3ade4e21a8493fdae/9/55/e38550bb0d5ab47cac3949357257135f) to build resistance to the virus.

But it's still not clear whether people who recover from covid-19 gain long-term immunity, and

experts say the so-called “herd” approach would also lead to hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of deaths.

Sure, why not? Who's going to stop it?Vaccine manufacturers, possibly.

The CEOs of AstraZeneca, BioNTech, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Moderna, Novavax, Pfizer, and Sanofi, have made a historic pledge to the world, outlining a united commitment to uphold the integrity of the scientific process as they work towards potential regulatory filings and approvals of the first COVID-19 vaccines.

All nine CEOs signed the following pledge:

We, the undersigned biopharmaceutical companies, want to make clear our on-going commitment to developing and testing potential vaccines for COVID-19 in accordance with high ethical standards and sound scientific principles.

The safety and efficacy of vaccines, including any potential vaccine for COVID-19, is reviewed and determined by expert regulatory agencies around the world, such as the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). FDA has established clear guidance for the development of COVID-19 vaccines and clear criteria for their potential authorization or approval in the US. FDA’s guidance and criteria are based on the scientific and medical principles necessary to clearly demonstrate the safety and efficacy of potential COVID-19 vaccines. More specifically, the agency requires that scientific evidence for regulatory approval must come from large, high quality clinical trials that are randomized and observer-blinded, with an expectation of appropriately designed studies with significant numbers of participants across diverse populations.

Following guidance from expert regulatory authorities such as FDA regarding the development of COVID-19 vaccines, consistent with existing standards and practices, and in the interest of public health, we pledge to:

-- Always make the safety and well-being of vaccinated individuals our top priority.

-- Continue to adhere to high scientific and ethical standards regarding the conduct of clinical trials and the rigor of manufacturing processes.

-- Only submit for approval or emergency use authorization after demonstrating safety and efficacy through a Phase 3 clinical study that is designed and conducted to meet requirements of expert regulatory authorities such as FDA.

-- Work to ensure a sufficient supply and range of vaccine options, including those suitable for global access.

We believe this pledge will help ensure public confidence in the rigorous scientific and regulatory process by which COVID-19 vaccines are evaluated and may ultimately be approved.

Big fucking deal,” Trump told Woodward, waving off criticism of his three face-to-face meetings with Kim (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/a-great-honor-in-a-bid-for-history-trump-flatters-north-koreas-totalitarian-leader/2018/06/11/22a4411c-6d8e-11e8-bf86-a2351b5ece99_story.html?itid=lk_inline_manual_51). “It takes me two days. I met. I gave up nothing.”

Foreign affairs experts say Trump gave up much — including by postponing and then scaling back the U.S. joint military exercises with South Korea that had long angered North Korea, as well as by granting Kim the international stature and legitimacy the North Korean regime has long craved.

Trump told Woodward he evaluates Kim and his nuclear arsenal like a real estate target: “It’s really like, you know, somebody that’s in love with a house and they just can’t sell it.”

Kim welcomed Trump’s overtures with over-the-top prose in letters. Kim wrote that he wanted “another historic meeting between myself and Your Excellency reminiscent of a scene from a fantasy film.” And he said his meetings with Trump were a “precious memory” that underscored how the “deep and special friendship between us will work as a magical force.”

In another letter, Kim wrote to Trump, “I feel pleased to have formed good ties with such a powerful and preeminent statesman as Your Excellency.” And in yet another, Kim reflected on “that moment of history when I firmly held Your Excellency’s hand at the beautiful and sacred location as the whole world watched with great interest and hope to relive the honor of that day.”

Trump was taken with Kim’s flattery (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/we-fell-in-love-trump-and-kim-shower-praise-stroke-egos-on-path-to-nuclear-negotiations/2019/02/24/46875188-3777-11e9-854a-7a14d7fec96a_story.html?itid=lk_inline_manual_59), Woodward writes, telling the author pridefully that Kim had addressed him as “Excellency.” Trump remarked that he was awestruck meeting Kim for the first time in 2018 in Singapore, thinking to himself, “Holy shit,” and finding Kim to be “far beyond smart.” Trump also boasted to Woodward that Kim “tells me everything,” including a graphic account of Kim having his uncle killed.

Trump did not share his letters to Kim — “Those are so top secret,” the president said — though Woodward writes that Trump sent Kim a copy of the New York Times featuring a picture of the two men on the front page. “Chairman, great picture of you, big time,” Trump wrote on the paper in marker. (Trump falsely boasted to Woodward: “He never smiled before. I’m the only one he smiles with.”)

Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, is quoted by Woodward as saying, “The most dangerous people around the president are overconfident idiots,” which Woodward interprets as a reference to Mattis, Tillerson and former National Economic Council director Gary Cohn.Kushner was a frequent target of ire among Trump’s Cabinet members, who saw him as untrustworthy and weak in dealing with heads of states. Tillerson found Kushner’s warm dealings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “nauseating to watch. It was stomach churning,” according to Woodward.

Kushner is quoted extensively in the book ruminating about his father-in-law and presidential power. Woodward writes that Kushner advised people that one of the most important guiding texts to understand the Trump presidency was “Alice in Wonderland,” a novel about a young girl who falls through a rabbit hole. He singled out the Cheshire cat, whose strategy was endurance and persistence, not direction.

The funniest part of this is that nobody but Trump knows what's on those 20 hours of tapes, since he was ringing Woodward without supervision at 2am. So they can't deny any direct quotes without the fear of a tape coming out within minutes

Let me also say fuck Bob Woodward for holding onto a tape of the President of the United States expressing grave concerns privately about a deadly disease while publicly calling it a politically motivated overreaction. Thousands of lives might have been saved if he had released that in February, and enough pressure might have been put on the President to spark a thorough enough response (and responsible tone) that we could possibly be out of this whole thing by now.

But as usual, it's all about the book deal.

He might have been forced to strike a more serious tone consistent with his own claims to Woodward.

Perhaps there would have been less gaslighting. Maybe MAGA masks would have been printed in March instead of July. Maybe instead of "Democrats are overreacting," his political strategy would have shifted to "Democrats aren't taking this seriously enough" and doing everything he can to encourage his cult to prove how they're doing more to prevent the spread of COVID than the libs, who are all out protesting unsafely. I much prefer that scenario.

I don't see that doing much, I think she's smart to not do that between now and the election. If Trump wins a 2nd term then sure bury him under a mountain of impeachments, especially if the Dems have a senate majority so they can control those hearings.

Pay attention to what he was doing the whole time and you realize it. He said many months ago he was a cheerleader for the country trying to avoid panic to avoid price gouging during PPE shortage. BTW, the guy y'all love (Fauci) was doing the exact same thing - downplaying it early on when he HAD to have known better as he is the infection control guy.

What Trump really deserves criticism for (and why he may ultimately lose this election) is his acting as a macho man the whole time, avoiding masks himself and not sending a clear message to avoid large gatherings and to wear masks when not social distancing. And his insistence that everybody get back to work by May 1st was complete B.S. and made him look incredibly callous, like someone only concerned about re-election and his economy. Trying to appease his nervous Wallstreet buddies... If the Biden campaign is smart, they stay on these points and don't let up.

Woodward, after 4 years of Trash's bullshit, absolutely knew Trash and his mafiya would deny it all, "out of context", etc, etc, and

attack Woodward in every which way, so the Trash cult mob sickos would ignore Woodward.

In any case, having gutted American pandemic preparedness for 3 years,

he had NOTHING to work with.

And of course, for-profit, just-in-time, inventory-less American health care was totally unprepared.
